Delith: Within the Unknown

Ez’ard sends to all, *I can set the Arch to send us (Trysk, Warwick and myself) just inside the south door or to the far west side of this corridor and we can try to do a surprise attack on the wizard if Shorty and Morteft can keep the warrior and mage distracted for a bit.*

OOC: Morteft and Shorty would not be privy to this conversation since we are in an anti-magic shell. FYI.

Morteft says, "Shorty, I am behind you. When you want your magic back, just rush about five feet ahead of me. I can stay back until I think it would be useful again."

Actually no, touching the door activated the magic; so Shorty never actually opened it.

The group watches SHorty seperate himself from Morteft by another 10 feet.  At that point, Shorty glances down at New Horizons and gives it a tentative practice swing.  He holds that position for a moment as he studies the human before him.

Since no one had suggested anything and Morteft said to kill it, Shorty moves the final ten feet and engages the human.  Shorty swings New Horizons three times at the human before him.

<<18 hits AC -18 for 28 points
     13 hits AC -13 for 21 points
      19 hts AC -19 for 29 points>>

Ez’ard has his lightning wand in hand, dons his glasses, set the arch so it opens at the far end of the west corridor facing back down towards Shorty. He steps through looks for the mage and uses his wand against him and then steps back through and deactivates the arch.

OOC: I was about to do this anyway

"Time for splatter" says the warrior who will also close the distance and attack, hitting 3 times, for a total of 100 points, no critical hits.

"Not bad barby, you actually hurt me a little bit." says the warrior.

OOC: I will wait on Ez'ards move until I get official moves form Warwick, Morteft and Trysk.

Trysk moved back behind Ez'ard and Warwick to read the Scroll of Protection from Magic.

He then grabs his Frostbrand and short sword before teleporting psionically to just behind where he saw the lich. He will make a backstab attempt, if possible.

In reply to Trysk (msg # 30):

Rest of the round.

Trysk gets out a scroll and starts reading.

Ez'ard gets his wand and puts his arch down, opens the gate

Warwick teleports away and comes in 10' behind the warrior and attacks.  He is able to hit with his battle axe but misses with the mace.

"Argh." says the warrior, "Damn munchkins, Z take him out."

Ezard pops thru the arch and is at the far side of the hall.  With his glasses on he sees that the mage is 30' ahead.  He pulls out his wand.

Trysk finishes his scroll and then pops away, he is not sure where the mage was exactly but his guess is off and instead of seeing the wizard he sees Warwick about 20' in front if him, the first 5' of which is normal torch light (not green).  Unfortunately he hears a spell being cast behind him.  He turns to see the mage about 15' away finishing a spell and a thin dull green beam shoots towards Trysk and it disappears 5' in front of him.

"What!" exclaims the mage.

Ez'ard fire a lightning bolt, flashing toward the mage and everybody; but it disappears 10' in front of the mage.

Actions?

Positions: Ez'ard is at one end of the hall at 4-way intersection
Mage is at the N hall intersection
Trysk is about 15' further E
Warwick is just behind the warrior, then warrior and Shorty and then Morteft

In reply to Morteft (msg # 29):

OOC:  What size sword is the warrior using?  And my whole planned response just went out the window LoL.  Did not realize everyone would move that quickly.  So now what does the almost dead ogre do.

Shorty asks New Horizons to use its last cure on him and then we waves Morteft forward.  He is not sure if the shell will stop the excessive damage.  Shorty has only been hurt like this by rangers in the past and he has never heard of an evil ranger before.  Shorty will swing three more times hoping to keep the warrior occupied in his final moments.

OOC2:  If the first hit is as bad inside the shell, instead of attacking, Shorty will attempt to parry instead of attacking as he tries to disengage from the warrior.

Once Morteft is waved forward, he will move behind Shorty and then use cell adjustment on him to heal him further.

OOC: Hopefully the anti-magic shell will greatly reduce the power of the warrior.

Ez’ard pulls out his rod of cancelation and using Dualis’ amulet transport inches shy of the location where is lightning bolt end and slams the rod against the barrier. In his other hand he has 3 throwing daggers ready to launch at the mage. He hopes he doesn’t die on a foolish attempt.

OOC - My understanding is that Trysk was the only one that saw where the lich was standing.

BIC - Trysk quickly engages the lich in melee with his frostbrand and short sword to keep him within the anti-magic shell.

In reply to Ez'ard (msg # 36):

OOC:Trysk saw the warrior, no one saw the mage Ez'ard.  You guys heard the mage but did not see him.

The action gets frantic as the battle continues.  Trysk sees the wizard preparing another spell and he rushes forward.

Ez'ard not thrilled with the result of his last attack pulls out a rod and teleports to near the wizard (about 10') and he swings the rod, expecting to hit something he paases thru without resistance and stumbles, not able to throw his daggers.

OOC: BTW, the way I play the rod of cancellation is that if you have a magic ring, gauntlet or gloves on the hand that holds the rod then that item(s) on that hand will be affected by the rod.

At Shorty request Morteft begins to move forward to get right behind Shorty. The warrior gets in a strike prior to this and hits for 38 points (using a bastard sword).

The wizard yells "To Hell with you" just as Trysk gets within 5' of the mage and with Trysk ready to strike, the mage collapses to the floor in front of Trysk.

Warwick begins to press the warrior who seems to ignore him.

Morteft reaches out to touch Shorty and the warrior swinging again .. but then the warrior collapses to the floor and the sword continues in its previous direction, a glancing blow off of Shorty, still doing 7 points and then clangs to the floor.

You all stand there a moment pondering, well maybe not Shorty .. his thinking cap 'fell' off again.

Actions?

In reply to Ron, The DM (msg # 37):

OOC - Not that it matters now, but I still claim that Trysk knew where the mage was standing:

"At the limit of Trysk's vision in the hall (50'), he can see two figures.  A warrior holding a sword and shield at the ready, crouched before a mage who is casting a spell."

BIC - Trysk lops off the mage's head and kicks it away, *Better do that to the warrior, too. Let's keep searching while these anti-magic shells are up.*

Ez’ard regains his balance and says, “So these were lifelike simulacrum/golems and when things got too hot the Lich mage just abandoned them? I am afraid the think how many of these he may have available. Does any damage transfer to the controlling person? Otherwise why just abandon them?”

In reply to Ron, The DM (msg # 37):

Shorty’s thinking cap might be turned off…  but he is smart enough to use New Horizons to separate the warriors head from his body.  He does not want it standing up again once Morteft’s magic goes away.  Once the head is removed, Shorty will bend over the body and examine it to see if he can figure out why it was beating him so thoroughly.  As he is poking around, he yells to Trysk.  “Takes it head.”

Shorty is muttering to himself.  “No cares ifn Art likes it.  Me gonna goes safe place ta sleeps long long time.”

Trysk makes a face after Shorty requests the head, *Uh, ok.*

He strips the mage's body of anything valuable (plus a piece of clothing) and then walks over to grab the mage's head by the hair and wraps it in the piece of clothing from the mage.
