"It looks ta be ah sound n' steady place M'laird. Does that stream go out ts the plains n' ta where the enemy be camped?"

Re: News from Megalos

Aye it does Ovo ... once, we think a great deep lake was here between these mountains .... and then it found a small gap... But it is a rugged little Gap... we'll go see it, but not from down low where they may be able to injure some of us...

You leave your baggage and head off to the right, here,a small guarded entrance in the wall leads to a stone tunnel which leads up through the mountain... it is about a man and a half high and perhaps two paces wide. after some 5 minutes of climbing by torch light you see the first platform, but Lord Hawk passes it by,as he does the second as well... all are panting when at last you reach the third... you are a good 500 feet above the road and stream ... and around the bend in the soaring gorge walls... You can see out into the plains... and below you can see the fortified gate house where the bridge once was... the road twists around along the mountain to that gatehouse... then there is  deep and rugged gorge some thirty Paces  deep perhaps... and then the road continues out to the plain.  You can see a large encampment there... and the river seems to slow and spread out.

Re: News from Megalos

Herkimer watches as John gathers some samples and then abandons it to get a feel for the magic in the area. He first experiments for finding tendrils of magic to bend to his will - without actually completing a spell. Is it there at all?

Re: News from Megalos

Very faintly and quite diffuse ... no strong spots. And it seems to be disrupted by the cliffs you stand next to, as the closer you get , the more you feel the twisting and shredding of those faint tendrils.

Ovo again nodded his approval as he looked over the defenses "So? Only the one road up ta the gate I take it? Have ye e'er thought o' dam'n the river... ta keep the enemy from ah water source. I know they kin probably bring water hither but jus ta make it ah wee bit harder."

Re: News from Megalos

The issue is where the water backs up... and it quickly does us more harm than them.... so we disregarded that plan.

"Well if it flows down towards them, you could always poison it..." he suggested offhandedly. But as soon as he mentioned, Wulfe felt a wrinkle of guilt at even suggesting such an underhanded way of dealing with other armies - though he had seen it in the past.

Wulfe felt slightly chagrinned at the question posed by Thomas "Other Megalans I suppose... was the only reply he could muster, with a shrug. It was a weak suggestion in the firstplace. Especially since their condition was not dire.

Ovo nodded to the King.

"Yer fortifications look ta be very sound M'laird. Have those from Megalos e'er tried ta scale yer mountains ta get inside? Do ye have some such in mind ta deter it if it happens?"

Re: News from Megalos

Why yes they have tried several of the mountain trails ... I have a very fine Mountain Scout group which patrol the mountains tops and watch the trail heads. Each attempt has been met with aimed fire from expert bowmen ... who then unleash a small avalanche of snow or rocks sending many men tumbling down the mountain sides.  Megalos has seemingly lost interest in such incursions of late.

Re: News from Megalos

Wulfe grinned at the suggestion "Well, that would do it" he added and then took another look out across the front. It was odd to see such an expansive territory with mountains and streams and fields and for a moment the notion of who might own such a thing seemed petty and irrelevant in comparison. Yrth was eternal beyond those people cutting at each other for a better piece of it.

"It makes you wonder how much of the rest of Megalos feel the same as Gedan but don't have these mountains and such a natural defensible land.

Have you any knowledge of such things Lord Hawk?

Not really ... although a few barons did express some envy for our position when we were still trading, now that you ask. I simply assumed it was another case of the grass being greener on the far side of the border.

Herkimer walks over to John, pulling his out of his head slowly, the white streak from when he touched the Dragon Gate in stark contrast to his brown hair in the outdoor sun.
"Something for sure is disrupting the magic - as if the order and flow is just..dismantled among the rocks. Really Interesting stuff - makes me wonder if we could interlace this stuff into light armor as an improved armor against magic. Anyways - let's see the Lichen. I really would like to examine this more - perhaps a poultice or concotion we could drink, mixed with honey and water - Did I ever tell you John when I dabbled in plants? ..."
