I wonder, is there any mechanic for magic vs magic?

For example:

if you did say... a 'mind probe' versus someone and it wins then you get the info
if they put up a spell to block all mind probes, then it fails

but is there a way to kind of 'combat for magic'? I suppose

Though the circumstances of our situation isn't exactly super friendly.
It's more like "come with us and we'll see if it's alright to let you do what we ant" with the implicit threat of attack if we don't comply.

I was more so asking for technical advice on what is needed from GURPS. I am.unfamiliar with the request. Analyze magic is a spell that takes 8 hours. I suppose just the thaumaturgy skill though it wasn't clear to me that it's use could detect magic? In the past we've detected magic either narratively but it also isn't clear of that's a given.

So, Herkimer wishes to "detect magic" near the elves or some such request.

I don't disagree with the concept... but the group has been under threat :)

I have analyze magic but my impression was that it took a full working day (8hrs) to cast. Which would seem... Burdensome? I'll look things over and see what I can do that would be more helpful.

Ok, actually "cracked open the book" (opened the office) and looked back at Herkimers character sheet. Magery the skill allows the unconscious detection of magic. Detect magic the spell also exists which I missed. Which appears to be what I actually wanted all along. Analyze magic does indeed also do what we were looking for but looks at it with detail and indeed takes some time.

That being said I will now detect away!
