What are the large doors connected to? Are they on hinges which are connected to stone blocks of the keep?

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Herkimer sizes up the door. He begins talking out loud. Maybe someone was listening?
"Hinges. Those are the weak points. IF those are iron... *whistle*... we're talking maybe an hour of concentration to melt those. BUT, we can simply shape the stone around the hinges and the doors will simply fall down."

Jaeleen clears her throat behind him and he turns. "Yes Jaeleen? It was the kindest you've ever seen Herkimer behave towards someone who interrupted his train of thought. Other than Lady Airis....

<lavendar>"We may need these doors afterwards. To protect everyone once we've secured this location."</lavendar>

Herkimer turns to Wulfe.

"Look, my apprentice - although I hardly feel that title is fitting still, you're well progressed to a Journeyman -

<lavendar>"...Commander Wulfe..."</lavendar>

Herkimer had turned back to Jaeleen and just as swiftly, at her reminder swivels back to Wulfe.

"Makes an excellent point. With our current knowledge this door may well be beyond repair. Though....IF there is a wall thin enough Wertle and I can create some doorways through the stone itself, though they'd be limited to single file. So what is it Wulfe - remove the doors, perhaps permanently, or try and carve a path through stone?

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Oh Master Herkimer! How about we just find another way? Certainly the servants don't bring food and drink through the front doors!

Meanwhile you hear the soldiers struggling with the Bar on the gate as they try to close it again. Eventually someone in the gate house calls fr help and several soldiers enter... the rope tightens and the Bar is lifted and the gates close, then the bar is lowered into place again.

You come out onto a large gallery over the main hall, the are two more doors up to your left, the next one most likely being the room the mages were in.  You also hear armored  men coming up the stairs.

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Wulfe nodded, the place would need to be repaired - but there wasn't really going to be a good way of getting into the castle without some broken things ensuing.

Aye, maybe so, but we have to get in or we'll be in an even worse position if someone else comes for us! he said, pushing the hair out of his face and grinning.

Well, the best way might just be through those doors. But without a ram they'll be difficult so the chaos of the fight had started. It was surprising to everyone unfamiliar with the battle how crazy things became and how quickly. He grinned and enjoyed it before jogging over to the array of confused young men and asked

"What you about? What's got you looking all like that?

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Herkimer sighed. Too much banter.
"QUILL, right door. When the hinges connect to the stone blocks of the keep, remove the stone. Either reduce it to air or reshape it. Jaeleen and Wertle, support us as needed for enegery, help Quill first. The time for action is now."

Herkimer had heard counsel. Jaeleen had spoken. He had heed her word often enough, but Herkimer's ways worked. And they could almost do the same thing to fix it well enough. With that he turned his attention to the left door.

ooc:
Action: Earth to Air x2, rolls of 14, 10 vs Skill(15), -2 FP

cast twice, assuming two hinges holding door in place, if more will continue to cast. One cubic foot cast to maximize amount of stone removed around the hinges.
06:28, Today: Herkimer rolled 14,10 using 3d6,3d6.  Earth to Air @ 15.

The area around the steel hinges vaporizes, but the door stands, although it sags down onto the ground some...

Wulfe runs over to find ... a Bear that appears right in front of him and takes a swing with it's paw ... he feel the breeze as the paw passes in front of his face.

Thomas suddenly has the slightly burned mage show in the middle doorway with a staff... he seems slightly startled but lowers his staff and says something.

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

A moment of confusion crossed over Wulfe ashe processed something that didn't fit in the paradigm in which his mind was functioning. A bear. A what?

"what the.... " as he stepped back and raised his sheld (OOC: 1 shield, sword drawn, other sword is sheathed on his back). But he had no way to know how to deal with such things.

"Form up, if it comes this way and tries to injure us, kill it! But hold this line for now. he said as he saw the door across the way sag. He left the young men there and then backed off to where Herkimer and his cadre of wizards had blown (the bloody) doors off.

"Open it up!" he shouted to the front line, indicating they should push the door over and then once the gap was enough for men to pass through, Wulfe braced for the defence and pushed through, making sure he was first.

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Wulfe is looking at a large bear, Range 4 feet.  Several soldiers re moving his way, as he confused them by taking off t the left to look at the young folks  leaning out of the corridor.... BTW they have all pulled back out of sight.

The Bear growls and advances quickly toward Wulfe ... (need a reaction from Wulfe).

The Main door to the Main Hall is back to Wulfe's right rear about 30-45 paces.

As soldiers move up the steps to that door, they start talking to someone on the other side, who work with them and unhook he bar, the soldiers allow the door to fall forward and slide down the stairs, revealing another group of friendly soldiers who entered via the Corridor.

Herkimer turns towards Quill.
"Was the right hand door too much for you? I'll remember that next time we're trying to rely on you."

Herkimer had little patience for those who couldn't follow through. Not that he was a prime example. But at least he always had his reasons. Turning back ahead Herkimer watches as the friendly forces gain new allies from within.

"Jaeleen, It appears that only one door was needed, if perhaps at all, however if we lose ground it will be that much easier to retake it. Now to take care of Wulfe."

Herkimer raises a hand to his mouth.
"It's NOT real Wulfe. It's a trick. You think a Bear sits idly by with soldiers all around it in a castle? Use your common sense man!!"

Herkimer wondered if it was really true. He shrugged, he would let Wulfe find out if it was an illusion or not.

In reply to Thomas O'Leary (msg # 888):

The man ignores the Viper he doesn't see and steps forward attacking with his flame jet ... it's not a very good swing but you'd still need to dodge, add a +1 to your roll though. The Viper moves to follow him.

Rascalluon flies in and breathes flames, which causes the other wizard to scream even as a stream of water blows Rascalluon out the door and rolls him across the floor... where he lies motionless.

Soldiers come running up the stairs and move toward your opponent.
