Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

The two bodies fall limply to the ground. And lay still. Another Dragon manifests by the woodline commanding the soldiers to join Wulfe’s men.
The two mages that are left try to restore order But a Tiger appears and attacks one of them, but a Bear appears and attacks the tiger, the attacked mage is seriously injured but limpsaway toward the other.

In reply to Herkimer (msg # 64):

Suddenly, a tiger bursts from the trees behind the enemy, near the centre, where many troops are fleeing to, and attacks the remaining commanders or anyone who tries to resist.

A few moments later, a dragon, somewhat smaller that the one that just dissapeared but very similar in appearance, and step from the treeline. It speaks quite loudly.

"HALT. THOSE WHO FLEE MY BROTHER SHOULD BE HUNTED LIKE THOSE THEY SERVED. THOSE WHO JOIN MY ALLIES OVER YONDER SHALL NOT SHARE IN THE SINS OF YOUR LEADERS!"

The uninjured mage sends another Bear to the woods near John, then gathers a group of about 15 mounted men and moves on the forces Wulfe has arrayed on foot. yet another Bear appears near the friendly troops and moves to attack, causing the line to bow backward.

The dragon responds by spitting  what appears to be swarms of hornets...first one at the bear nearest him, then one at the bear attacking the tiger, even as it moves away from the nearest bear and towards the path of fleeing troops.

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

And the dragon was stomping around causing disarray, but not enough for a mounted charge on his lines. Wulfe was at the back ready to coordinate but Ovo and Hugh, despite being seasoned warriors and capable sergeants would probably not be able to hold the line to a charge from cavalry. The men seemed ill-equipped to deal with such a turn of events, spears were few and far between.

When coupled with the bear it meant a bad thing, but at least The Stone had arrived and were on their way. That mage though. Wulfe narrowed his eyes. "Brace for that! he called out to his sergeants before turnign to Chloe.

"CAn you topple that wizard's horse as it reaches full charge, just before our line?

As he watched events unfold Wulfe felt itchy and like he wasn't doing anything, sat there surveying but not lending his arm directly to the conflict. His breathing got heavier and focus narrowed to a laser point seeing each part of the field and mentally visualising each move he would make and just how much of an impact it would really have.

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

The mounted troops close to the Dragon move toward Wulfe's lines in a jumble, looking over their shoulders a lot. This is in no way an organized attack and several of your new recruits are calling out to these men to sheath their swords and eat well for a change. Figure it's roughly 13 men, the one standing Mage (actually riding) has gathered up 14 men plus himself and is moving toward the Left side of Wulfe's line at a slow canter as he tries to get them into a line (figure they are an arrow shot away).  Some 30+ other soldiers are scattered about avoiding Dragons, fighting and such and trying to figure out what to do... The Knight riding up can't really make out what is happening yet and his men are still in road column.

There is a Large Bear near where the original line of riders was, looking about, having dispatched the Tiger that was there.  A second Bear charges toward the Line on Wulfe's left, where only six spears seem ready to receive it; there are roughly another six on the right side. A third Bear charges at the wood line to your right front.

I assume Hugh has the Left Flank, Wulfe has moved to that side ... Chloe and Herkimer need to tell me where they are.

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Wufle could take it no more. He kicked his feet to a running pace aiming at the line where he felt he was most needed. (OOC: I'm not sure where that is exactly - I assume 6 spears vs 1 bear is fine... probably towards the enemy cavalry) As he roared his own charge he let the battle spirit take over him accompanied by the chorus of steel that heralds the reign of doom that befalls all foes that stand in his way. IT was the best way to end this quickly, he thought to himself as the flood of exhileration swept over him and took him out to the ocean of instinct like a man caught on a retreating tide.

Full sprint, right through his own line, hoping somewhere deep down that his own charge would encourage their advance but it was irrelevant. All enemies that dare to challenge him would fall.

Figured with the current situation, better for Wulfe to get involved and lead by example.

He will charge 'through' his own line into the enemy where he feels the allied forces would do worst - Guessing that's the Cavalry led by the mage.

Wulfe will charge down that group at full pelt until he's amidst them and start cutting at everything that is near him and an enemy. He will also defend any incoming shots.

If you need me to roll, let me know what. Lets hope the rest of them get inspired!

We can all be dramatic John, Herkimer!

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Wulfe bolts through the lines startling the soldiers and the Bear which turns to see what ran by ... it's a serious mistake by the bear which is immediately stabbed by for men, 3 with spears and one with a sword which cause the Bear and immediately cause it to collapse, stunned by the magnitude of it's wounds.

Hugh is stunned for a moment then yells and runs after Wulfe, which causes many other soldiers to follow running toward the mounted men, who seem surprised and hesitant, reining in to stop their advance. The mage is furious screaming and threatening them from in front of them, pirouetting on his horse as he yells ... Then he realizes he is out front and spurs his horse to get behind his men before Wulfe can reach him.  Before the mage can stop, several of his men have joined him in galloping to the rear, causing him to again start screaming ... The remaining men just fade back behind the mage, obviously not much inclined to fight.

The Knight of the Stone and his men ride up to where a few men are finishing off the bear and deploy into line, wholly confused at Wulfe's actions and those of his apparent enemy.

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Wulfe was taken in by it all now. There was no retreat no surrender and nothing that would end their encounter but victory or death. He was enraptured by the moment and felt the pull of fate measuring him against hte foe he stood before.

"Join us! Live better and by the honour that burns inside you all!! he screamed at the horsemen, hoping to sway at least a few of them but ultimately unwilling to slow his advance. Instead of sprinting he slowed to a slow and purposeful stride, eyes locked on the wizard that had fallen behind his own allies. "Coward, falls behind the men to protect him. Everyone that stands with me protect those that need it. Not some mighty wizard that aims to fatten his pockets off your hard work and kill and rape innocent women and children! he continued to shout as he walked, not really talking to anyone in particular just raging at his own abhorrence of the situation.

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Three of the laggards stop and look at each other and at Wulfe and his men ... another stops 3 yards beyond them and looks back too ...
One yells Ho Bubnar, how treats this bellowing mad man?

A voice behind you yells back ... More fairly than any on that side and we eat well too.

The three men look among each other, then sheath heir swords and ride wide around Wulfe to where Bubnar, who has stopped, stands. The fourth looks both ways, then spins and spurs his horse to follow the first three.

On the otherside of the field, a small mob of horsemen are opposite your line and they seen to be yelling something back and forth ... but swords are being put away ... as you watch, they ride in file around the far right of your line and dismount.

The Knight leading the Men of the Stone is looking about trying to figure out what has transpired. The one mage still functioning has about four men with him... the others have joined other groups, also standing around and watching what is transpiring. There are about 40 some of these confused mounted soldiers in clumps of 4 to 9 men scattered about. The Mage is still screaming, but no one seems to be paying attention.

Somewhere between all these men and you lie the two bodies dropped by the Dragon.  A single well fitted out horse stands close, occasionally nudging one of the bodies.

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Wulfe cast a glance to the well equipped horse near the fallen bodies but only for a moment. Popular opinion seemed to have swayed in their fabour and only the most resolved men had stayed with the mounted wizard. It gave him the perfect opportunity.

"You will kill and torment my brothers and sisters no longer... Let me show you what the wind of death truly looks like..." he growled. Nothing else mattered, the pinpoint focus was such a relief to the man who loved the simple resolution of outcome that came through such endeavours. For whatever reason things happened, it didn't matter. For king? Country? Love? Family? It all fell away and became a simple expression of one's will against the other. Your way or theirs.

Wulfe grinned and then moved from striding steps to full sprint in two heartbeats. (OOC: given his current position and his realtively fit/highHT i reckon he'd be able to make it there without too many problems)

Herkimer pulls up short when Jaeleen pulls on his robes. He looks back to this new child of magic, clinging to his robes. He considers the plight and decides to say put and watch. He leans into his staff.

"Watch Jaeleen. Wulfe will have quite the opponent. However if the mage is slow to act he will have a hard time countering a sword."

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

A large rock flies out from behind the Lines of Caithness and lands about 5 yards from the mage who is casting. He is startled and loses his spell...

The Knight has his men, now in line, advance to support Wulfe, the rest of Wulfe's infantry, including Hugh slip through the formation as it passes.
The Mage sees clearly that the game is up, turns and gallops off to the South west, Calling for his men ... but none join him.

The Soldiers instead ride over to the Lines of Caithness soldiers in 2 and 3s.. as they are taken in and fed, others see this and join, by midday, all the "enemy" soldiers have sheathed their swords and come to your fires.

The Knight rides over to Wulfe and asks What in the Good Lord's name were you doing? how did you do this? what is going on? I am confused, they said you desperately needed help.

Re: Oakwood's Ordeal

Wulfe's shoulder slumped as the wizard failed his spell and moved off, and even more so when all but the most fervent supporters came and joined them. A precious moment in which he might be able end trouble that the wizard caused had ultiamtely passed. Though, the flying rock that had startled the mage and ultiamtely swayed the whole engagement was a masterpiece. The battle had mostly finished and without any real death.

As the knight ran up, Wulfe nodded his respect and then responded "Well met.

Occasionally I get carried away but mostly wanted to end that bastard's life before he could wreck any more havok on my men or these villagers. He has caused enough torment.
" he said indicating plainly that he wished to put himself in harms way before letting any of his own die or get badly injured.

"We have some regulars here but many are just militia that are fed up of Brance's endeavours in this area. And we're not very well equipped, and unlikely to take a full cavalry charge well. Similarly, we had no cavalry of our own and only a small contingent of ranged troops - led by my betrothed.

We were outmatched in terms of mobility and range and fighting against a rather unfriendly series of wizards. As i've always been taught, it's never good to enter battle underhanded and under supplied - and so you were called to help.

As for the change in sides. Well, I guess Brance and his wizard dogs have been mistreating people for too long and morale is low. I offered a fair and well provisioned alternative that might sit better with their own sense of honour and it seemed that many of them were happy with that.

The help, of course is very much appreciated and given your cavalry's mobility I would very much appreciate you bringing me that wizard. And then if you would kindly lend the support of your cavalry I'd quite like to put an end to Brance also.
he offered with a grin, sheathing one of his swords before swiping back his mop of blond hair.

"But before all that, please tell me the name of the KNight that came to protect my loved ones and friends. I wish to remember it well.  He asked, keenly glancing around to note the rest of the battlefield still in movement.
