Re: OOC

Had a relaxing day with Magnus and Tim playing video games and watching TV.  Specifically the movie, "Eddie the Eagle."  Magnus made us a traditional Swedish Midsummer fest meal that included 3 different tastes of the same fish, (Cod?  I forget the specific one.) potatos, and meatballs.  Very tasty!  A great ending to a blessed day that started with a miraculous healing.  :)

Tomorrow we tour the copper mine.

I'm super glad to hear you're having a great time, and have moved on to recreational long time pal part of your trip.

That said, I do hope the church stuff went well.  Hope you two are both getting enough sleep.

Yup!  Plenty of sleep.  Ireland was so crazy busy, we'd fall asleep just minutes after getting to the hostel.  Magnus works this morning, so we get to sleep in today.  But after 10 or so hrs sleep, I don't think I can force myself to sleep any longer.  :p

Re: OOC

Massive time-skip in giant comics once again has me head-scratching over what to do with Mits.  I feel like it would be a lazy cop-out to go with the same "oops, got stuck in a multiverse misadventure for 5 solar years (indeterminate how long mits really did spend in space-time silliness, or how much she aged.)"

large part of the reason for that is so i wouldn't have to pretend like my character had any idea of what was going on for the past 5 years.  and pretend that she somehow didn't interact with the other supers in 5 years time.  pcs and npcs alike.  guh, i hate time skips.

tim is considering 15 yr old mav, and possibly app for a different character.

Matt was IN SPAAAAAAACE.  But yeah, good freaking luck with a new character as I remember Tim's hurdles trying to get Emerald off the ground, as much as I overall like the place.

Re: OOC

Maybe adding an adorable baby dragon wouldn't be going too far, but thanks for the heads-up.  I'm leaning heavily on the "can somehow be in two places at once" and "was totally not here for 5 years" side of things.  Because threads have a way of suddenly dieing in one place, and suddenly getting active elsewhere.

Re: OOC

So the last time there was a time skip, I was stumped for a good long while on what to do for Mits.  The major hang-ups were: Cannot have been interacting with any of the PCs without having a lengthy PM conversation with them to hammer out exactly what happened between the characters in 5 years time.  Cannot have been involved in any major plot-arcs without a lengthy PM conversation with the GMs to hammer out exactly what happened.  Player will likely be completely lost on 5 years worth of current events.

Solution I came up with for other G.C. board was "was caught up in an over-the-top space-time adventure that didn't include this universe's Weston City for 5 years."

I deliberately tossed in "Mittens can now duplicate herself through time-space paradox" as a new superpower because I was running into situations where, though the thread she was in had died, it would be kinda rude to the absent player for the character to suddenly teleport away to where the action is.

How do you feel about me simply re-using this idea here?

Re: OOC

Yeah, I'm totally good for Mittens having come along for the vague undescribed space adventure.  I'll just have to keep it in mind when making joke references to it like "I never cut a moon in half. It's in one piece nobody can prove it".    So I've made a mention of that in my PM thread.

Re: OOC

So since it's a space adventure, I think I might go with Jedi/Sith Mittens adventures.  She got lightsabers in the other place from inventer dude, so I guess I'll grab a pair in this world as well.  Doppelganger is a force power, so there's my excuse for Mits replicating herself as needed.

Re: OOC

So, amusing hindsight about falls rivers.

We've had terrible luck spotting hidden enemies. Throw "even with blindsight" on top of "Even with a +2 bonus to noticing hidden people thanks to theme", hah.

Though the bigger deal lv 1 perk was "Your attacks ignore partial conceal" which is like, 90% of all random shrubs.  The comedy leap utility option at lv 2, and lv 5 GHOST HORSE (daily freebie cast of phantom steed).

Also wow look at me, buying Everlasting provisions instead of a proper enchanted bow. What's wrong with me,  (I COULD afford both, but then I would hit "Literally exactly zero gold")

Re: OOC

Probably the one time I should have had your perception come up was the initial orc ambush, but I think I forgot? I'm not used to blindsight to begin with, let alone a pc having it. Second ambush, though, they really did walk away. You guys just didn't know it was so they could get into a good position. That's more insight. XD

But please do keep taking initiative to roll perception with comments about your blindsight so I'll keep being reminded.

Heh... the provisions v bow is probably because I rarely have combat come up. And my idea of lvl 2 boss fight was AC 18. So you probably feel more comfortable.

That and goodness you have a very high to-hit value that I don't know how you got that much. *De-levels Angel to see what her to-hit value was at level 2* Wow. Her to-hit was +12. Math for her then was:

+5 (Dex Mod)
+3 (Superior Crossbow Proficiency Bonus)
+1 (Sharpshooter Talent from Rogue. Had to use Hybrid Talent feat)
+1 (Crossbow Expertise Feat)
+1 (Half Level)
+1 (Inherent Bonus)
=12 total

So I'm guessing you have exact same minus the sharpshooter talent? I just didn't know Joe had a dex of 20. And always imagined him with a bow and not a crossbow (superior crossbow is the only ranged weapon with +3 proficiency, I think?).

Not nit-picking, just got blown away when I saw your +11 and +13 next to my feeb +6, but I am curious the build of your character.

Re: OOC

While I am still factoring in Freebie expertise and Inherent.
Those +11 and +13's were based on combat advantage and a defense debuff on top.

As things stand, that Joe's normal to-hit should be +9. I did roll 9's earlier in the fight, such as when I rolled a threeeee… Though now I'm scratching my head where the +13 came from.

CA would be +11, and CA and a -1 defense debuff would be +12. Maybe I typoed when it came to the 13?  But yes, understandable question when you were expecting something closer to 7-9 to hit by default.

Re: OOC

This post I saw amused me because for once it's not me trying to explain this the phenomenon that has only gotten more heels dug in DESPITE the reduction of 'only so many times a day' for casters.

quote:
There's a dumb thing idiots say, which is that the Fighter is as good as the Wizard because while the Wizard can do more and better things than the Fighter, the Fighter can do their one thing all day!!! There's at least two reasons why this has been bullshit since 3.x, but the thread has been working through the shiny new 5E rebuttal to this and its followups.
Statement: The Fighter is as good as the Wizard because the Fighter can do their thing all day.
Rebuttal: The 5e Wizard can cast cantrips all day.
Rebuttals to the Rebuttal: Fighter attacks are better than Cantrips, and casting a Cantrip means you're not casting a spell.
Rebuttals to the Rebuttals to the Rebuttal: If the quality of what is being done all day is relevant then the Fighter being able to do one thing all day is a bullshit statement to begin with. Also some cantrips in some builds are equal to or better than Fighter attacks. Also that the Wizard can do a thing that's even better than the other thing makes it worse. Also Wizards can learn to cast real spells all day too.
Rebuttal to the Rebuttals to the Rebuttals to the Rebuttal: Yeah but, like, only second level spells.
Rebuttal to the Rebuttal to the Rebuttals to the Rebuttals to the Rebuttal: *fistshake emote*

Re: OOC

Reminds me of a scene from Rune Soldier.  The mage encounters a hidden door...

https://youtu.be/pVwY4Z2DqVo?t=1073

There's another scene where the priestess blasts a whole group with a single spell.  So I remember saying to Tim afterward, "If I were to make a game system, every class would have some means to effectively do the same thing at the same level.  Clear the room in a single turn."

Good timing because if you had checked yesterday, the site would have been down.

Nessie is one of the assorted nicknames for the elusive loch ness monster. Clearly they mean you are more fabulous than a unicorn.

Re: OOC

Nessie is a nickname Chris and I give to our friends who disappear for extended periods of time. Andrew Kipe is the original Nessie because he oft disappears for months at a time. Rick Schriver holds the record, though, having gone incognito for 2 years (not answering phones, not returning phone messages, not answering any other means of communication, etc). And he lives here in Waynesboro with us.

David Edmondson has become "The Blonde Nessie" because he moved away too far to visit, but he made efforts to visit.

It is a half-tease nickname that we give, but suffice to say all our Nessie friends are, in fact, friends, despite being gone for long periods of time. :) This is because to be a Nessie, you have to also be someone we really, truly care when you do appear. So in that regard, it is also a term of endearment.

Good to hear from you, Salow! I always liked Rolen.

In reply to Timothius (msg # 367):

This is the first time I heard you all use "Nessie" for MIA Friends ... but cool ... sorry for the long absence, life keep gets getting in the way of things.

While I have the desire to play, I just can't commit to anything atm. I tried getting in with a local group, but was only able to make two sessions before having to drop out. And even online has been hard - found a Google+ group (before that was shut down) that was pbp and we played several games, but eventually life got in the way there too.

In case you all haven't heard, but Courtney is pregnant with our 3rd child, she is due August 19th. Christian is going in for mouth surgery in late June to help correct his speech. It seems, as of now, that Carleigh and me are the only two without any major updates. My father just got of back surgery this past week, and is now in a physical therapy center recuperating. It's a long road ahead for him b/c they put a 12 in metal rod in his spine. I'm hoping he recovers quickly and is healthy enough to come up this way in August to visit his new granddaughter.

I do want to play again ... something that involves dice rolling ... but ... ya know ... life.

Anyway ... I'll be around
