Naruto

*Placeholder* Basic premise we were sent on a mission to spy on neighboring ninja clan *placeholder*

Maverick recently became a Genin, just like any other Academy graduate. His specialty is so strange for a ninja. He can *gasp* go invisible! O.O It's almost like he's a ninja that values stealth. Waaaait....

So anyway, Maverick and the other two ninjas that plot will soon have as part of a team Maverick will be in, are all from the Village Hidden in the Rain. Maverick is waiting in the class room where Genin team members are being selected.

Re: Naruto

Jake is a total cheater by ninja standards.  He was born with telekinesis!  But this gets excused away by the fact that it's a family trait that shows up now and then among male descendants of some powerful ancestor.  He never wanted to be a ninja.  Well... no more than any normal kid who understands that that sort of thing takes effort.  Well thanks to family pressure and being born in some backward place that time and smart phone service forgot, Jake wound up juuust good enough to not shame family entirely.  Mostly by relying on cheap tricks he was born with than any real combat talent.

"Hey Mav," he says, "Long time no see.  But I guess that's how you like it."

Re: Naruto

Joe gets all the free Kunai and shuriken he wants.  This is his officially stated reason for studying the whole family tradition of 'be a ninja already'.  Gimmicks?  Uh, well, that 'walk on wallks' trick every dang ninja can do is second nature?

"Oh, I almost forgot what you looked like Maverick.  Hi Jake."

Re: Naruto

Maverick is used to many kinds of comments on his sneakiness. He nods to the other two. The teacher eventually enters the room and says, "Alright, everyone. The time has come to be assigned a sensai." he names off various kids and who their sensai is. Then lists Jake, Joe, and Maverick are to be under the guidance of a Jounin named Stryker.

The trio is told they are to meet their new teacher at the roof of the nearby garden overlook. Maverick nods and begins heading that way. He quietly wonders what the teacher is like, if they will be mean, patient, kind, or just plain bad.

Re: Naruto

"That's interesting," Jake says, "I was expecting someone a bit more...  Well I'll keep my commentary to myself lest I wind up having to eat my words or worse...  jinxing things."

He too follows along, laced fingers behind his head.

"Good to see you too, Joe," he mentions, "How's things?"

Re: Naruto

"Which direction would the jynx go if you said you were expecting someone more competent?"

He shrugs in regards to Maverick, "Same old same old.  Get up, avoid knives.  Eat breakfast, avoid trip mines.  Head out, Duck and dad falls down the stairs.  Nice recovery from him to avoid the beartrap at the bottom though."

Re: Naruto

Maverick gives a light breath as if a single chuckle escaping him. The rooftop the trio is headed for isn't far. Just a matter of a short walk to the gardens and then climb some stairs. Whatever conversation Jake and Joe have, Maverick only comments if asked a question. Otherwise, he seems to enjoy the garden on his way there.

Once there, the trio would see nobody but them is there so far.

Re: Naruto

Jake of course is expecting an ambush from the teacher to test his new students, so he's on guard but sure doesn't look on guard.

"The Murphey direction, of course," Jake answers with a slight chuckle, "I'd say your family is a bit overzealous, but...  Well around here that sorta morning routine is far from unheard of.  Me it's usually swarms of deadly flying insects or something that I have to telekinetically swat.  I'm sure for Mav's place seems like a haunted house.  Aaand our teach isn't apparent at the moment.  So what sorts of time passers do you two favor?"

Re: Naruto

Joe, sharing in Jake approved brands of paranoia.  "Juggling sharp objects?  Most people don't like to interrupt you suddenly with that one."  Joe also thinks the three of them have way less EMO than many ninja's upbringing.

As for his Father, it would probably be harder to pull of their little 'practice' if they didn't regularly yell 'Surprise sucker!' at his son.

Re: Naruto

Maverick, like the others, is on guard. But up the steps, walking toward the group blatantly, is a blond-haired, blue-eyed woman. It's Liberty. She walks over to the trio, looking slightly down at them. "Hi."

Maverick nods in greeting to her.

Re: Naruto

Saved by the bell!  Jake isn't fond of the whole 'flying sharp objects nearby' thing.  He waves.

"Hello there, mam," he says with a polite bow, "My name is Jake.  This is Joe and Maverick.  And how would you like to be addressed?"

Re: Naruto

Joe's player's brain is still catching up from the PLOT TWIST of being younger than Liberty in a setting for... uh... First time ever we think.  Joe the character meanwhile, waves hello.

Not for the first time, Joe considers getting a nametag.  Even if it defeats the purpose of ninja missions.

Re: Naruto

Liberty says, "I am Liberty Stryker. You may address me as Stryker Sensai or just Sensai. It's time for us to get started. First, do any of you have any problems with your team mates?"

Maverick headshakes. After all, he has no problems with Jake or Joe.

"I could say something silly, but I'm guessing you don't appreciate humor like 'They're too awesome,'" Jake says with a shrug, "Nice to meet you, Sensai.  No problems.  Their awesomeness is about perfect as far as I can figure."

"No problems that I know of Sensei." Draaaawing blank.

Elsewhere, David comments "Shame of family sense, tingling."

Re: Naruto

Jakes comment forces a smirk from Maverick. Liberty nods. "I appreciate humor. And that you all get along. Do you feel you are ready for a mission?"

Maverick looks at the others, as if waiting to see their answers first.

"Well that's good to hear, Sensei" Jake answers, "I wouldn't be here if the Board of Ninja Who Decide Such Things didn't think I was ready.  Same for Joe and Mav.  I'm not one to contradict 'em.  Except when they're wrong.  How 'bout you?  You think we're ready?"

"It would depend on the mission, hard to say if I can estimate myself as qualified or not without knowing what I will be working on.  Even if the unknown comes with the job, we are new at this."

His grandpa had warned him against jobs involving bridges though.

Re: Naruto

Having seen his allies' answers, Maverick looks at Liberty and nods.

Liberty says, "I think you misunderstand, Jake. The fact you are here only proves that the board deemed you ready to be Genin. Nothing more. They assigned you to me so I can decide whether you are ready for a mission or not, but I did want to gauge how you all feel. The mission I plan to start you all with is a spying mission. Simple intel gathering. As for whether I think you are ready, I don't know yet. All I know is what is on this information sheet."

She holds up some assessment sheet the board made of the trio. "So let's put you three through your paces. Though before we do... I'm curious how you bunch describe yourselves."

Maverick says, "Sneaky."

Re: Naruto

"That's a modest way to put it, Maverick," Jake says with a chuckle, "I like your style.  I think I'll try a one-word approach too.  Um...  OK maybe that won't work for me.  I'd say 'telekinetic' but it doesn't feel quite right.  I dunno.  How about... easy going?"

Re: Naruto

"I'm just this guy, you know?"  Not THAT Guy, though.  "Focused on the basics, because it's too easy to forget them once you have the more showy jutsu toys to work with." Not that he didn't have his own tricks, but he didn't expect to come out of any of the 'Yugio ass pulls would be proud' Jutsu competitions ahead.
