And he can continue to wonder. Until he asks, anyway.

Antoinette answers softly, "My name is Antoinette. I will help tomorrow. I need to rest. If you want to tell what you want, I will listen."

She lets the cat onto the ground and it immediately rubs against her leg, purring.

Eren unscrews the top off a small flask that looks similar to something hard drink is usually kept in and takes a sip, watching the others.  He looks a bit confused at the apparent lack of interest in the request and says more forcefully,

"I'd rather know now, if it's all the same to you."

"If you have the time now that we have all settled we will hear your request now." Rain then closes his eyes the light from the fire hurting them, and proceeds to hum ever so quietly only barley loud enough for raven to hear who has fallen asleep under his arm and cloak next to him.

Treona nods and explains that she and Alkirk need confident adventurers to recover an item for them. Alkirk is the las heir to the Kiris line, the rulers of the fallen town of Kiris Dahn. Eight years ago they were forced to abandon their home. In the face of an overwhelming goblin invasion they had no choice but to flee and even now the goblin still live there. The item they wish for the adventurers to retrieve is the last of the Slaying Stones, a very powerful item that the town used to kill their enemies. The town had eight such stones and they were all thought to be gone, but rumor of a ninth has mad them worry and they wish it retrieved so they may destroy it.

She offers a hand full of home drawn maps of the town and explains that the goblins live mostly in the northern sections of the town.  She thinks the slaying stone likely rests within the old library, one of the temples, or the Kiris estate. All of these are outside the areas where most of the goblins live.

"Dangerous magical artifacts, is it?  Some specifics about it will be needed.  If it is desired back so much, it would not be in your interests those sent to retrieve it to drop dead anyways."

Antoinette wanders to the fire and after situating herself, turns to look in the direction of the others. She looks up at Alkirk and softly asks, "Do you know what it looks like?"

She pets the cat idly where she sits.

Eren is a little distracted by the snoring lady, but stays focused on the matter at hand.

"So...  Why destroy a powerful weapon?  What's the catch?  Does it corrupt the wielder?  Or is it because word of the stones got out and that's why the goblins attacked the village?"

Rain shifts at the sound of such a powerfull item, he had been alive for many years longest than most and had seen the town before, but new nothing of such a stone. "This sounds quite troubling, should the goblins learn to recreate such a stone then many would be in great danger."

Slaying Stone

When the town of Kiris Dahn was at the pinnacle of its power, its wealth and prosperity made it a target for nearby settlements and thieves. To guard against any invasion by powerful forces, the then-ruler of Kiris Dahn sought out tiefling weapon smiths known as the Architects ofVictory, who were experts at deadly magic passed down from the last days of Bael Turath. For a hefty price, they created a set of magic weapons capable of slaying Kiris Dahn's enemies. They placed a limit on the weapons, though, to ensure that they would be used for their stated purpose and couldn't be used against the tieflings. The items worked only in and near the town of Kiris Dahn.

Treona explains to the party that the stone has brought nothing but pain to those that have used its power and that though its power those who ruled became arrogant and power hungry with god complexes and she wishes to finely end this nightmare of their past before someone learns to make more of them, for the world needs not more power hungry fools whom have great strength and endless lust. She explains though that the stone is not perfect and should a situation arise that puts the party in unavoidable danger that they absolutely cannot handle alone that the stone will crumble if used and though it will sadden her that its power will be necessary once more that so long as they bring proof of its demise she will content with that.

Treona gives the characters three identical ritual scrolls and a map of the town. She tells them the ritual scroll is attuned to the slaying  stone, and shows a ghostly image of the item if it's nearby. It's best to use the ritual at the center of a building to search the whole area thoroughly. The ritual has a component cost of 25 gp, so Treona gives the characters 75 gp worth of alchemist reagents.Though she refuses to give the characters the ritual to destroy the slaying stone because she wants proof of its eradication.

So... Magic stone bad, please stop stone.  Except please don't destroy the stone that has only brought misery, that would be bad. because?

"So... it does what then?  Towns are not very large, so I feel I am missing something in just how it could give one a god complex or cause tradgedy to it's owners.  Does it eat a baby every time it defends town?."  That is generally frowned upon as a source of arcane fuel, right?

Still, the fact they are actually including components along with the ritual shows these people are serious.  Reasons still in question, but serious.

OOC: Rhagar will stop asking for specifics right now if this is one of those cases of 'well, I'd have to read ahead a couple modules to actually know the specifics'""

Eren frowns, clearly furious at the mention of Tieflings.  But he keeps most of his angry thoughts to himself.

"You're right to want such a terrible thing destroyed.  I do too.  But destroying evil won't pay for the magic armor I'll need if I'm going to survive making a habit of risking my life to see it done.  So outside incidental valuables I may find on my slain enemies, what kind of reward can I expect for carving my way a second time through hoards of goblins to bring you the Slaying Stone after I find it?"

Antoinette says nothing yet. For one thing, the others are asking important questions. For another, she is thinking about things to ask her companions. So she keeps a mental note.

(OOC: This means I will write her questions and such in scratchpad. In case I forget them)

Slaying Stone

As the adventurers settle in for the night the wind and sleet seems to grow in strength and a howling ca be heard from the packs of wolves that they had escaped earlier. After drying and drinking the warm meed from their host and eating what they could hold the party sleeps through the night to awaken to a cool crisp morning. Through the window a bright light shines and the party feels fully rested. Treona descends the spiral staircase and greets the adventuring party awaiting their final decision on weather to retrieve the stone and what their plans may be to do so.
