Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

MAAAAaaaaayyyyyyyy.... at least that's what it sounded like when she got knocked off the cliff.

Meanwhile, at cliffbottom, May grumbles, drinks a potion and begins hovering before rocketing up!

Superior Will save throw: 11 success! No longer dazed.
Free: Activate Kyle buff
Minor: Auto-save from immob (takes 10 dmg)
Minor: Drink flying potion
Move: FLY 30 feet up. Thankfully, you can fly even when prone.

...can you imagine how much life would have sucked if I didn't have superior will?

Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

The shade slashes at Mittens.  She looks unharmed.

"Nye-heh!  Neener neener neeeener!"

Meanwhile, the tormenting ghost looks annoyed at Timothius and answers Rai, "'awaits YOU!'  Eternal suffering awaits you!  Ugh. Here, I'll show you."

It makes a diving motion like it's trying to dive into Raichel, but it bounces off her!  "Curses!  Blasted cleric!"

"I will show you REAL torment!" Raichel turns into a burning sphere of lightning and says in an equally burning voice, "DESTROY" before becoming a lightning bolt that zaps through her enemies all the way into flanking with Mittens! The burning lightning elemental that is Raichel looks like she is aching to do more!

Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

Hmm, invisible ghosts and the holy boy is busy.  It will be some time yet before Kyle unlocks the secrets of DIVINE POWER (okay, just radiant damage) for himself, but there are cheapskate options in the meantime.

Kyle digs through his bag, and pulls out an old bottle.  "I don't think I've ever used this before.  Surprising given how often we fight the undead."

He lazily splooshes the bottle of holy water in the general direction of the specter.  "My ghost pants are all wet! Ghost Dry clean only AAAAAIGH!" and with a sizzle and puff the ghost is now vanished from nonexistence, rather than partial existence.

Kyle shrugs, as he points down the cliffside and actually heals May for once wowie zowie.

OOC: Holy water killed spectre.  Her surge value +8 HP healed for May.

Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

May is flying upward, belly forward, arms and legs dangling, head tilted back while she wooshes upward going "WEEEEE"

Her pace is astounding! She flies a LOT faster than that potion should have allowed for. She can see the trees grabbing Timothius on her way up. "LET! GO!" and as usual, has her staggering singing stick at the ready. WHAM! The tree grabbing Tim goes staggering back 20 feet, forced to let go of Timothius!

The branch that grabbed Tim has a nice bruise on it now. "Hmm... those trees are tough! Raichel! Only YOU can cause forest fires here!"

There is now a levitating May. "Mind if I step in, Mitts?!"

Before Mitts can object, May swoops up to the invisible voidsoul and slashes it with her sunblade scimitar!

"'Course I don't mind, May," Mits answers with a sunshine smile.

She faces the famine spirit.  "Then eat fire."

She remembers that the famine spirit was supposed to take radiant damage automatically on it's next turn and it bursts into flame, dying in a fire!

Trees don't move right? so greenbane wouldn't help-Oh, these do, and it's already dealt with.

Watching nature get bludgeoned by sticks and yelled at is more entertaining than what he was considering, either way.

"I think you were the worst off of us, Tim.  But it's always good that never lasts long."  That said, Kyle finally walks away from the cliff edge.

Mittens' blaze dies out.  She grins and thumbs-ups to Timothius.  "Only a mild ouchie, really.  I'll sleep it off.  My MAYn worry was for May, but it looks a little old thing like a hard landing from a high cliff is shrug worthy for her."

Once camp is set up, May says, "OK, so the fall was annoying. But for goodness sake, Mittens, don't get gobbled by otherworldly beings just to let me have a little fun."

Tim adds, "You don't know where they've been..."

May HUGS Mittens' side and says, "Still! Thank you VERY much, from the bottom of my heart, for your consideration! You guys are truly the best friends a May could ask for! Feel free to prolong not-so-dangerous fights, but again... no need to let enemies succeed at anything."

Raichel says, "I fear I personally might be getting downright arrogant. So I second that we should show no quarter to the enemy."

Kyle nods.  "Spite has always been surprisingly helpful.  But I have no problem with saving it for when we're already set to flatten the enemy, rather than waiting for it to look cooler."

Of course, it would look cool either way so long as anyone but himself did it.

Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

Mits is stunned!  "But... but... I whispered!  How did May hear what I said from so far away?!  That's... that's... aMAYzing!"

She blushes deeply and fidgets.  "Consider Mittens duely lectured.  May and Kyle are the best friends a Mittens could ask for."

The "night" (of perpetual spooky darkness with no sunrise ever) passes uneventfully.  When the group is ready they find the citadel.

The Mantled Citadel stands atop a tree-shrouded
knoll deep within the Forest of Twisted Souls at the
center of Vaerothim. As one draws closer to this fell
edifice, the trees cluster thicker together until they
press hard up against the knoll’s near-vertical cliffs.
The only path that spirals up from the forest floor is
flanked by bare rock on one side and a coiled, twisted
wall of elder trees upon the other.

Atop the knoll, even greater trees crowd out the
light. Their thick branches curl upward around a
huge shard of black rock. Passageways and chambers
of the citadel riddle this rock.

If the heroes elect to scale the mount in hopes of
finding another way into the citadel, their activities
awaken the coiled trees that grow upon it (page 74).

When the characters reach the citadel, read:
Atop the knoll, huge trees cluster thickly against a spire of
black rock that rises hundreds of feet into the air. A single,
black iron door pierces the rock at ground level

The door is not locked or barred; Irfelujhar trusts the
perils of the Forest of Twisted Souls and the many
guardians within the citadel to guarantee his safety.
The rock itself is over 300 feet high, although the
boughs of the many trees clustering about the rock
mask the lower 100 feet or so. Refer to “Area Features” for more information

During camp, May explains to Mitts, "Oh. Raichel told me while we set up camp. And I'm not lecturing! I'm requesting... because I love you."

Timothius and Raichel smile. May is also sure to thank Kyle for the heal he gave earlier!

On the way to the door, Timothius advises the group to be quiet so they don't draw unwanted attention or anything.

When the group makes it to the door, May steps forward and goes to open the door.

Rai and Tim stay back, though Rai watches the group's rear.

When the PCs open the door, read:
The door opens soundlessly into a 10-foot-wide, irregularly
shaped, gloom-flled corridor extending deeper into the rock.

Whispering, Mittens pretends to call in, "Delivery for Irfelujhar! A birthday cake with 1,234 candles in it. Courtesy of Sunshine and Fun Times Party Throwers!"

Ground level
1: guard Room. This chamber was obviously
once used as a guard room. It is now deserted; a
graffiti-ridden table and chairs stand in the center of
the room.

More doors await the heroes.

May telepaths to the group, "Thanks for the buff, Kyle. We can chat with each other via telepathy until it is time for Mittens and I to once again get in a contest of who can make the enemy angrier."

Timothius responds, "I forget how old Irfelujhar actually is... Maybe you can conjure letter-candles that spell out 'very old'?"

Raichel responds, "If I punch him hard enough, will I be able to knock some years off?"

May heads forward and opens the next set of doors.

Poof!  The cake is a reality!  Illusory, but tangible in every other way.  The candles spell out "very old" as requested.

Mits grins at Kyle and telepaths, "Thanks!  And you look so... professional!"

When the heroes enter this area, read:
A large chamber lies beyond the door; four pits pierce its
floor. Opposite another set of double doors leads deeper
into the citadel. A huge humanoid creature stands among
the pits. Comprised completely of chains, the creature shifts
menacingly at your appearance.

Answering Kyle, Raichel says, "Thanks, Kyle. :3"

Yes, that :3 made it through the telepathy somehow.

Raichel then says, "RAI!" and a lightning bolt made of divine energy comes close to missing the golem... but the communal weapon and Mitts' aura cause the bolt to sway JUST enough to hit! Which then sends the electricity through the golem like a conductor, and fires a bolt from its backside to the flameskull hidden from view! Another bolt shoots from the flameskull, but misses the killer it was heading for.
