Open Discussion: Building of Ivost

Here we will be the building progress of the City of Ivost. Which is just the name for purposes of the map. It is far more preferable to have a second name, or to have the regions named.

This discussion is visible to all visitors, and will help inform those observers with the progress of the city building that is occurring.

Keep this discussion as relevant to this game world and character germane content, as is possible. if you aren't confident what or who you want to play, use the Roster or Character Creation discussion threads accordingly.

Open Discussion: Building of Ivost

Before we get too far here, I do want to inform everyone I have geography already roughly made in the city and continent. There are many places that can be added, but I'd like to use some set piece maps I have already. It saves me a lot of time, and is a source of enjoyment to have battlemaps that I feel are robust, that I already have.

There are docks, a pond, a prison (whether used for domestic or foreign threats), a sewer system, and a segment of the city gate.

Since no one here has objected in the RTJ, I'm going to keep the name Ivost. You can change it in the game, but the map I have has it listed as Ivost, and so gives me a map I can pull up to show you all the very rough features of the continent.

I also have maps for other planes, such as parts of hell and heaven. I have a single (one) outlands map.

So let's focus on the group thread first and work around to here as we get more group dynamics.

Might there be a plane that is covered in endless sea dotted with an infinite number of islands?

There is HUGE gray area, yes. I will upload the maps ASAP. This will be (for the next couple months) a workshopping game. I am only now comfortable enough in RL to even start having this conversation.

Open Discussion: Building of Ivost

Narya's desmense in Ivost consists of four great libraries (+6 circumstance bonus), built from the four great treasure halls and barracks of the dracolich that once ruled the Unyielding City. Each library is connected to a courtyard, each courtyard flourishes with its own magical garden, in various tastes - from elven to halfling.

The great libraries differ with their topics.  The Library of the Dead, whose collection the former Master of Ivost - that dracolich - had started, has many tomes on religion and undeath, with the Nycoptic Manuscripts featured prominently as a centerpiece; oh, how those restless Nycoptic Manuscripts rattle their chains and groan, when one steps too near!  Dark is the Hall of the Dead!  Dark is their knowledge!  Few are the visitors there, yet it is the greatest of the four.

The Library of History is Narya's headquarters, where the Historian has her private  apartment and baths.  It is where she has painted countless murals and commissioned painters to draw more. Many show the deeds of the Crucible.

The Library of the Planes has a vast orrery of the planes suspended from the ceiling, and shelves and books are color-coded with precision.

The Library of the Arcane has an adjoining magical laboratory and many curious things in display cases - each on loan by a resident scholar of the arcane arts.

Many are the visitors to Ivost seeking knowledge; the libraries are open to any who swear to do the city no harm and to punish any who steal.

There are former thieves who walk those halls, their minds charmed into a new design - now, they guard, clean, and assist in those halls of knowledge...

Each library is attuned to a different plane, and they can teleport freely between them, meant as a guard against invaders seeking the lich's treasures...

Open Discussion: Building of Ivost

Having looked at the map, I think I may have to rethink Ghanek unless Ivost's river is tidal and wide enough to take ocean going ships, much like Montral and London.

If that's still possible, then Ghanek's stronghold consists of:
  1. The breakwaters and walls of the harbour.
  2. The lighthouse/stronghold
  3. A tunnel that leads to an Aventi undersea settlement in Eleth Bay.
  4. Three ships, one of which is the Sun on Crashing Waves which was built with Ghanek's own wealth
  5. The Aventi settlement

If not, then I may need to replace the Landlord Feat and just have one ship instead of a stronghold.
