Re: The Chamber of Lost Souls. (OOC)
The double-bladed sabre...ugh. That's a death sentence waiting to happen. Slight miscalculation on the grip, or shift the wrong way, and it burns right into the body or the hand. Not a good plan. I understand that it really looks good in the movie (when not in slow motion...there are some hilarious videos showing just how far from each other the actors were swinging), but...for me it looks like a suicide weapon. For the above reason, and because it has that big cuttable section right there in the middle.
Where one grips.
Open to attack, because in moving it around, one is putting the hand out there. There's a reason why most staff work is more 'one-ended' when it comes to fighting rather than spinning through a form. ^_^
Another thing that bugged me was 'Wow! How lucky was it that when someone DID cut through that big cuttable section, they got it PRECISELY in the place where two lightsabers join together and, apparently, there isn't any circuitry or batteries! Such that the saber-staff split into two perfectly useable lightsabers!'
...rather than splitting into a couple of lopsided hilts, one or both sabers dying because critical circuitry or wires have been cut. :(
They're tech objects, after all. Not magic. :D
I'm finding the older I get and the more experienced I get with 'actual' weapon use, the less Hollywood stuff excites me. Unless it's a rare occasion where it's really well-done (when what usually happens is I sit bolt upright, gabbling insanely, while everyone around me wonders why I'm all excited at that boring looking fight).
The crosshilt...it might be a good idea for hand protection, except that there's quite obviously a metal plug where each crossblade is coming out of, attached to the grip.
Which means any lightsaber sliding down the 'blade' will encounter that metal plug, rather than the 'energy hilt'.
Which means...zap, right through the metal plug.
Otherwise, they're two tiny lightsabers too small to actually get at the other guy (except in VERY specific circumstances), but large enough and oriented in the proper direction to actually pose a hazard to the user.
:(
But I am looking forward to seeing the movies. It's Star Wars - I'll try to suspend my disbelief regarding that kind of weirdness.
I'm not familiar with Game of Thrones, I fear, outside of the first two books. Glad to hear the movie has one of your favoured actors in it!
