Chapter 2.3: Interlude II (Vincent) [01/31/1925]
Moretti gave his eyes a few moments to adjust, mindful of the time and the possibility of someone entering the alley and stumbling upon him. Crouching in front of the door, he set to work, keeping his mouth open as he did so. An odd act, he recognized, but a habit he'd picked up from Ray Spano, who'd insisted that it helped one's hearing, better enabling a thief to perceive tell-tale noises in a quiet environment.
As he sought to make the lock bend to his will, the song persisted in the back of his mind, winding softly through his thoughts.
"Well I am Death, none can excel
I'll open the door to Heaven or Hell
Whoa, Death someone would pray
Could you wait to call me another day?"
