Re: All in all it's just another...

12:41, Today: Asher Willbourne rolled 9 using 1d20+8. Will save. CRAP!

OOC: I'll hold my move until I know how many of the arrows on the roller are aimed at Asher and what the total damage is. PS: lets not forget the Deflect arrows feat against one of these arrows.

Re: All in all it's just another...

(21) After the older guard barks out his order, the guards in the garrison yard gape at the illusion that cloaks the thin man...but after only a marginal hesitation, fire arrows at Asher--the only person visible to them.  The monk is forced to dodge the incoming flurry of missiles, twisting and ducking to avoid the arrow fire.  Three arrows are well-shot--Asher manages to deflect the first, sending it spinning away into the night, but the other two score long, shallow wounds along the monk's side and shoulder.  Already seriously wounded, Asher feels even more of his vitality being sapped away.

(20) Asher is up.

OOC:  I still need Listen rolls from each of you, and Garryn needs to roll a Will save, too.

Garryn stares dumbfounded that the figure now has a bow with a flaming arrow.

13:01, Today: Asher Willbourne rolled 7 using 1d20+3. Listen --ignore the last one-wrong die. Double Crap!

OOC: One thing before I commit to a move; when you say Asher is "--the only person visible to them." Does that mean that Barbaras is no longer visible, or just that they cannot yet see Garryn?

Re: All in all it's just another...

OOC:  Both, Bri.  Jas indicated that he wished the illusion to cloak the thin man (kinda like an illusory floor over a pit), so while the illusion is visible, the thin man is not.  And Garryn missed his Climb Walls last round, so he ended up scrabbling rather ineffectively at the base of the pallisade wall--on the outside.  Thus, you are the only one visible.

Re: All in all it's just another...

Asher drops prone to the catwalk seeking cover from the guards below and does his best to hide himself behind the boards of the catwalk. While hiding, he crawls (army style) backwards (still facing the image/thin man) away from the image/thin man and readies himself to stand should the thin man approach or grab another orb from his neck.

While trying to change position Asher yells, "Don't shoot! I am not the arsonist! I will come down willingly and surrender! But you must not let this man escape until Savin or the Burgormeister arrive! and then, at the top of his lungs he adds, "Let this illusion stop!!!" (OOC: Dear god let Jason make his listen check)

OOC: Kev, I'm attempting a couple of things here, drop prone as a free action, yelling to the guards as a free action, crawling while hiding for a 20' move action (half Ashers total allowable distance while hiding), and readying a second move action "stand up". If I am doing this correctly, Asher should have a +4 to AC for being prone (vs ranged attacks) and +4 to Ac for cover. Let me know if any of these things don't jive with the scenario.

14:07, Today: Asher Willbourne rolled 24 using 1d20+7. Hide check.
14:06, Today: Asher Willbourne rolled 20 using 1d20+1. Bluff check.

Garryn stops his attempts to climb briefly and moves several feet away before ascending the wall, with some ease this time.

Re: All in all it's just another...

(20) The monk immediately drops prone as the arrows speed past him, gracefully dropping to the rough, splinter-ridden boards of the catwalk.  Asher calls out his entreaties, and crawls backwards--away from the odd figure with its disturbing, shadowy shape and the dimly flickering fire arrows.

[Private to Asher Willbourne: Hey Brian, you say you're readying your "stand up" action, and that works as a standard action--given the trigger of the thin man moving towards you or the reaching-to-the-neck thing...the latter action you would currently be unable to see because of Vil's illusion.

OOC: Is Asher comfortable that he is *hidden* and gaining *cover* from the depth of the catwalk? (vs. the guards not Zante, of course)

"Asher, he's controlling the guard captain! Be careful," Garryn instructs his companion, then turns back to the rest of the party and yells, "SOMEONE GET SAVIN NOW!"

He sets to climbing the wall again and yells to the guards, "Don't fire, we will surrender with the imposter! He is a powerful wizard, do not let him go! He can control people so be careful!"

(17) An arrow strikes the wooden pallisade, about six feet below the shadowy figure poised with the faint, fiery arrows.

(12)
Garryn climbs the pallisade, warning Asher and calling out to the guards inside.  The rogue pauses before he clambers over the top of the wall.

Re: All in all it's just another...

(4)
A voice calls out from behind Garryn.  "Halt!  Git offa th' wall, NOW!"

An arrow thuds into the wooden pallisade, approximately three feet to Garryn's left.

(28)
The illusion of the shadowy figure with two fire arrows--for that was what it was--vanishes, revealing the thin man in studded leather armor.  The man calls out, "Oi, Cap'n!  Comin' over now!  Th' arsonists are workin' in concert, seems like!  Keep 'em from comin' in, and we need t' warn th' bugomaster!"

So saying, the thin man leaps from the wall, diving downwards.  Reaching out, the man grasps an eave of the garrison and swings back up, releasing his hold and back-flipping to the ground--landing on his feet.  He then hurries over to the captain of the guard.

(21)  The other guards hold their actions, unable to see Asher lying prone in the shadows that fall across the catwalk.  The captain calls out, "Keep 'im pinned, men!  You three...get up there an' find 'im, an' keep th' other one outta here!  We'll get t' th' bottom o' this...I'm gonna check on th' burgomaster!"

OOC:  Asher is up on 20.  I'll modify the maps a bit later to show updated positions.

Upon hearing this, Asher looks around to find the stair or ladder that serves as entrance to the catwalk. Lying on the hard wood of the catwalk Asher begins to feel the severity of his wounds. He strains to hear the guards movements so that he might track their locations. "I need to keep an eye on Barbaras," the thoughts spin through Ashers mind, "Why hasn't anyone from my party come over the wall? I should just let Zante go, jump down and reunite with the party. Hopefully Dom can patch me up quickly. From where will the guards come for me?"

OOC: Kev, when you do your map update, can you incorporate the entrance to the catwalk for me (that is if Asher can see it). I'll decide on a move once I see the layout.

OOC:
I've updated the combat map on the website to reflect the two ladders that lead to the catwalk.  Both ladders are fixed in place, attached to the catwalk and to posts that support the catwalk.

Cheers,
Kev

Re: All in all it's just another...

Asher cautiously stands, takes stock of the positions held by the three closest guards, and looks over the wall to see where the rest of the party is and to try to assess the threat level on their side of the wall.

OOC: I'll complete the second half of the action once I get the info from the spot check. Specifically, I'm considering a retreat (although I am not thrilled about it and would prefer to keep an eye on Zante's location and actions). I don't however, want to jump down into a hornets nest on the outside of the wall.

Asher stands quickly, grabs the top of the wall with his left hand and swings himself over to escape. While jumping down he completes a 180 twist so that he may land with his back to the wall.

Re: All in all it's just another...

(20)

With a quick, smooth motion, Asher stands and lightly vaults back over the pallisade wall--twisting in mid-air to land lightly in a three-point stance, his back to the pallisade wall.  Garryn, still clinging to the wall, watches as the monk leaps past him to regain the outside of the garrison.  An attendant cry from a couple of guards greets the monk's departure, and two arrows hiss towards the monk as he is silhouetted against the night sky during the beginning of his leap.  One arrow is wide and flies harmlessly off into the darkness, but the other speeds fair and true.  Reacting blindly to the sound, Asher manages to deflect the arrow as he makes his vault, sending the missile spinning away from him.

(13) A minor hubub erupts on the far side of the square.  Please roll Spot and Listen checks for me.

OOC:  Asher is now on the outside of the garrison, having leapt back over the pallisade wall.  Two of the guards, having readied their actions to fire arrows at the monk as soon as they saw him, managed to do so.  Asher was successful in deflecting the one arrow that would have hit him.
