It already has...

The party is scattered through the tall grasses of the plains of the Central Wilds.  Following Perrato's disastrous mis-step and subsequent flushing of a flock of grouse, the party members dropped to the ground and began to make their way through the thick-stemmed, heavy-headed grasses that nod in the heat of the evening.  Not a one of those crawling through these waving fields can see anything other than sky, and the more or less identical plants in front of them.  Startled prairie voles and harvest mice scamper away as the various crawling party members disrupt the rodents' crepuscular activities.  Aidrin's whispered spell is observed neutrally by a little ground beetle and even smaller wolf spider, who look like they might be squaring off themselves.

Totmacher, very briefly, thinks that he might have warned the rest of the party of the presence of chiggers and ticks...and then discounts such a warning as pandering to weakness and mewling human concepts of comfort and, well, lack of disease and parasites.  Pussies.

A gathering sound of yips, barks, and bayings can be heard in the distance, and is abruptly hushed.  The game, it appears, has begun...

Re: It already has...

Perrato stands as the rest of his companions dive for cover in the tall grasses.  The priest observes the circling of common snipe in the distance, as the shadows cast from the peaks of the Turgrad Mountains and its foothills throw the plains into shadow.

Seeing the Cleric standing up in the midst of their approach, Villhalas reaches out in an attempt to pull him into the concealment of the prairie grass..

OOC:  I assume Perrato's actions (or inaction in this case..) were a result of the Hide roll???

Occupational hazards...

Taken in by the truly spectacular sunset, Perrato pauses a moment in the open air to admire it as he opens his ears to all the lovely sounds of the prairie primeval. "Ay, me debo a esconder, ¿no?" he comments as Villhalas tugs at his robe.

Re: Occupational hazards...

Totmacher will continue to crawl but wants to ensure that he is leading the group through the grass so picks up the pace necessary to keep ahead.

Totmacher is very much aware that our position has been given away.

Kev, what is Tot's current distance from the knolls?

Re: Occupational hazards...

OOC:  You begin your moves a little less than a mile from the lake and little knolls nearby.  Please note that these are knolls (small hillocks) and not gnolls (large buttheads).  You have yet to see anything, but I will modify that based on your rolls and actions.  More later.

Slouching towards Bethlehem...

The sun-warmed earth and tall, bluestem prairie grass and buffaloweed are, literally, in the faces of the party as they begin crawling towards the little lake and its surrounding hillocks.  Perrato pauses to admire the colorful sunset, himself admirably silhouetted against the dying of the day.  Villhalas reaches out pulls the Palonish priest down into the cover of the surrounding vegetation.

Progress is slow, and the various party members strain to hear anything above the sounds of bird and insect life which fills the evening.  Soon, however, these little, ambient noises die away, and an ominous silence--filled with the rustling sounds of the prairie grasses stirred in the slight evening breeze--descends.  The crawling continues as the party creeps up on the small lake and its surrounding wetland.

Aware that he may have blown the party's cover, Perrato's attention is refocused on the potential troubles they face. One hell of a sunset, though.
