Asher's combination of a snap kick followed by a roundhouse kick finishes the wounded gnoll, and it topples to the ground, lifeless.

OOC:  Aidrin, Perrato, and Asher are effectively out of combat.  Any of the three may make a Spot check, DC 12, to see Caylin standing on some stones about 120 ft. away.  Depending on how high your Spot check is, you may be able to see Garryn and/or some of what is going on about 300 ft. to the north.  Actions?

Concentrating, Caylin sends two more arrows arcing towards the distant gnoll, and is rewarded by a barking cry of pain as both arrows find their mark.

Re: Coward of the County...

Aidrin tries to determine where the shouting is coming from and scans over the tall grass. Getting a bearing, he grips Perrato's shoulder and moves towards the halfling's position, loading his crossbow along the way. "This way."

OOC: 11:48, Today: Aidrin ap Gynwir rolled 15 using 1d20+1. Spotting Caylin. (DC 12)
Loading a crossbow is a move action, but since I take no standard action this round, I can take two "move" actions, correct?

Perrato looks northward, returns his gaze to Asher, and says, "Amigo, I am sure you are not in your best shape, but are you well enough to continue?"

Another glance northward and the cleric clearly sees Caylin perched atop a large rock. "I believe that our other friends may have some more trouble to be faced."

[OOC: Dig this epic Spot check.
12:50, Today: Perrato Viatomagne rolled 22 using 1d20+3. Spot Caylin.

Quick Draw Viatomagne

Perrato's eyesight suddenly becomes eagle-clear, and dropping his morningstar, taking out his crossbow, and loading it, he takes a very long shot at the remaining gnoll. Not to much avail, however.

[01:27, Today: Perrato Viatomagne rolled 10 using 1d20-3. Crossbow attack--remaining gnoll.]

Re: Quick Draw Viatomagne

Caylin, straining his eyes in the evening twilight, cannot see the looting gnoll.  Nevertheless, the halfling fires two arrows towards the spot where the gnoll was last.  Although the probability of hitting the unseen creature is not particularly high, the halfling is rewarded with a high-pitched scream as the first arrow sails into the tall grass in the distance, followed by an abrupt cessation of the scream as the second arrow cuts into the grass.

Garry, arriving several seconds later, finds the last gnoll dead, four arrows in its body.  The dead gnoll is clutching a leather satchel and a heavy-looking pouch.

OOC:
09:54, Today: Caylin Direbrook rolled 8 using 1d6+2. Damage.
09:54, Today: Caylin Direbrook rolled 73 using 1d100. concealment miss chance (1-50%=miss).
09:53, Today: Caylin Direbrook rolled 19 using 1d20+8. arrow shot 2 vs. total concealment.
23:33, Thu 25 Aug: Caylin Direbrook rolled 5 using 1d6+2. Damage from arrow 1.
23:32, Thu 25 Aug: Caylin Direbrook rolled 79 using 1d100. concealment miss chance (1-50%=miss).
23:30, Thu 25 Aug: Caylin Direbrook rolled 22 using 1d20+8. arrow shot vs total concealment.
23:29, Thu 25 Aug: DM rolled 20 using 1d20+5. hide.
23:29, Thu 25 Aug: Caylin Direbrook rolled 8 using 1d20+4. spot.

That completes this battle.  I will post a map showing you the positions of everyone.  The fire is spreading relatively slowly--the spring and early summer were wet, so the grass isn't tinder dry yet.  However, if left there, the bodies of Villhalas and Totmacher will both be consumed.  Stay tuned for the map, arriving prior to lunchtime (for me, at any rate).

Fired up about looting

"All clear! Nice shooting Caylin!" Garryn yells back to his friend as he surveys the area. After pausing a moment to take the satchel and pouch Garryn calls back to the other members of the group, "Ash, can you get the horses? Perrato check on the brothers while we see what we can do about that fire." Garryn stops to pick up his bow and the gnoll leaders and heads back at a jog. He was hurt and exhausted but didn't have time to deal with those issues at the moment.

Re: Fired up about looting

The halfling, perched on top of the mound of stones, lifts his hand in response to Garryn's all-clear, and then turns his gaze southward.  A troubled look comes over the archer's bloody, tired face as he sees the burning grass.  The halfling hops off of the rocks, and sets out to see how things fare with his companions.

OOC:  Jump off stones, 20' move to the south.

Aidrin moves towards the fallen half-orc's body and attempts to drag him towards where the party had left the horses.

"As foul as you look right now you'll look much worse as a charred stump," the human grunts as he works through the plains grass.

Looted up about firing

Perrato ventures towards the flames, gauging their spread, and attempts to smother some of the fire--in effect trying to create a patch of ground in which the grass has always been burned.  The Palonish man achieves some success in doing so, but has quite a bit of work to do to cut off the advance of the fire to the east.

Aidrin's attempts to lever the corpse of Totmacher into a position that he can move the body is futile, as the wizard struggles with the massive body.

The fire continues to burn, but does not advance beyond its current range this round.

OOC:  Post actions for this next round, please.

Garryn decided not to risk losing the nice suit of studded leather armor so he strips it of the dead gnoll leader as quickly as he can.

Fighting fire with naked resolve

Perrato manages to put out a small amount of burning grassland.  The Palonish man had engaged in controlled burning off of the hop fields in the Vedian uplands, after the crop had been pulled in, and was familiar with keeping a minor brush fire in line.  However, the priest is somewhat startled to see a disrobed Aidrin joining him in the effort to keep the fire from spreading eastward.

OOC:  Successful Survival checks allow you to extinguish a 5' square.  Remember, there is no wind, and the grass isn't tinder dry.  The fire, if left unchecked, will spread--but it can be contained by establishing a firebreak.  See the latest map HERE.

Garryn forgoes his attempt to remove the gnoll leader's armor, choosing instead to race towards the south and rejoin his companions.  The rogue draws even with Caylin, who is about 40 ft. to the west of Garryn.
