Re: Reunited...and it feels, well, OK, I guess...

Gauging the party's distrees, Aidrin thrusts his hand into one of his many pouches and snatches out a clump of dust that drifts like red and yellow rust out of his fist. Wheeling on his feet, the wizard thrusts his arm towards the west and shouts theurgically into the air.

Once the spell for Flaming Sphere is complete, Aidrin sends the blazing globe sailing through the air towards the nearest gnoll and then he backs behind Villhalas.

OOC: Heading towards E13

Re: Reunited...and it feels, well, OK, I guess...

(13)
Villhalas spins on his heel and lunges toward one of the gnolls facing down Perrato.  Unfortunately, the fibrous roots and tough rhizomes of the grass impede the sorcerer, and his rapier thrust is mistimed.

(10)
Aidrin's words echo in the warm, still air of the evening.  A blazing ball of fire appears in the air and leaps into the path of an oncoming gnoll.  The creature attempts to dodge the burning globe, but is unable to do so.

(10)
The gnoll facing Totmacher snarls and yips, foam flying from the lips drawn back from its teeth.  The creature's battleaxe descends, the force of the gnoll's weight behind it--and catches the barbarian with the full force of its edge.

(8)
The gnolls facing Perrato and his beetles act.  One gnoll spins towards Villhalas, its axe shearing through the air.  The head of the axe tears through the sorcerer's throat, parting his head from his body.  Vilhallas collapses, dead.

The other gnoll attacks the beetle that had wounded it, tearing into the Coleopteran with its battleaxe.  The axe head splits the beetle's carapace, and the summoned beetle disappears in a small, misty cloud.

OOC:  Damn.  Here are the rolls, and Tot is up on segment 6.
16:28, Today: DM rolled 8 using 1d8+3. Gnoll damage vs. beetle.
16:28, Today: DM rolled 19 using 1d20+4. Gnoll attack vs. beetle.

Re: Reunited...and it feels, well, OK, I guess...

(6)
Totmacher's gauntleted fist blow is badly mistimed, and the barbarian finds himself struggling to compensate for the haymaking punch he had just thrown.  The half-orc's feet are tied up in the tough stems of the tall prairie grass, and Totmacher attempts to regain his balance and fighting stance.

(4)
The gnoll reinforcements continue their baying, yipping approach to the party.  One gnoll charges straight for Totmacher, slashing the barbarian a glancing blow with its battleaxe.  Another charges for Aidrin, but is unable to connect with its axe swing, as the wizard adroitly ducks under the gnoll's weapon.  Two others move towards Asher, but are unable to cover enough distance to employ their weapons.  Another likewise bounds towards Perrato, but cannot quite close with the Palonish priest.  The last gnoll sends a feathered shaft from its short bow towards the Narvilian monk, but the missile is poorly aimed and misses the man by more than two yards.

OOC:  Perrato and his amazing performing beetle are up in segment 3.  Gnolls in segment 4 took hustle moves (double), with the exception of two who took straight-line charges (v. Tot and v. Aidin, respectively).  One hung back and fired an arrow.  Rolls follow:
22:57, Today: DM rolled 8 using 1d20+3. Gnoll bow attack vs. Asher.
22:44, Today: DM rolled 12 using 1d20+4. Gnoll attack vs. Aidin.
22:39, Today: DM rolled 5 using 1d8+3. Gnoll damage to Tot.
22:38, Today: DM rolled 19 using 1d20+6. Gnoll charge attack vs. Tot.
Tot is currently at a raging hp score of 10 hp (2 after the rage kicks off).  New map is up on the site HERE.  Note that the older map is still linked above, so you can see positions from the previous action (i.e. before the gnolls went on segment 4).

After taking another five-foot step to the east [to H16], Perrato turns to the gnoll to his southwest [I, 14] and recites a prayer for Compulsory Submission to Divine Will (Command) to be directed at said attacker, "Decide terra per auctoritam Vagrani!" in hopes that he will fall prone at his current location.

Asher attempts a stunning fist against the closest Gnoll (K-14) and misses. He then attempts a second strike and misses badly.

OOC: What is with the critical misses? Ingore my 1d8+2 roll on the die roller as, obviously, Asher does no damage this round.

Perrato takes a quick step away from the immediate vicinity of the snarling gnolls, and chants a prayer to Vagrani.  One of the gnolls collapses instantly, as if poleaxed.  Perrato's beetle lunges at the gnoll facing it, and its mandibles close on the thing's leg

New round.

(15)
Asher engages the gnolls in front of him in combat.  Unfortunately for the monk, both of his punches are wide of their mark--the second one so much so that Asher must catch himself to recover his balance.

(10)
Aidrin is up.

OOC:  10:39, Today: DM rolled 4 using 2d4. Beetle damage.
10:18, Today: DM rolled 7 using 1d20. Gnoll save vs. Command, DC 14.
10:16, Today: DM rolled 14 using 1d20. Beetle attack.  Note that the beetle has a +1 to hit, which I neglected to include in the dice roller, but included in the final tally (i.e. it hit with a 15 rather than a 14).
New map is linked HERE.

Re: Is it nap time already?

Deciding that one sleeping half-orc is worth four sleeping gnolls, Aidrin backs 5 feet away from the gnoll facing him [to E,14], raises his hands ominously and casts Arcane Slumber (Sleep, DC14) [at C/D,10.5]. The wizard then makes a yanking motion with his arm and sends the flaming sphere sailing back towards the gnoll in front of him [should be able to make it to just short of F,9].

Re: Is it nap time already?

Aidrin moves away from the axe-wielding gnoll threatening him, and casts a spell towards the gnolls threatening Totmacher.  Fine-grained sand drifts through the wizard's hands as he gestures and mutters the liquid syllables of the spell.  One of the gnolls collapses heavily onto the ground, but the other two shake their heads vigorously, as if annoyed by small, biting insects.  Likewise, Totmacher manages to shake off the effects of the spellin which he was inadvertently caught.

Aidrin also manages to control the burning ball of fire, causing it to leap through the tall grasses--leaving a trail of burning grass in its wake--and collide with a gnoll who had remained behind to pick off stragglers with its bow.  The gnoll tries to elude the flaming sphere, but sustains some burns and singed fur nevertheless.

OOC:  13:33, Today: DM rolled 5 using 2d6. flaming sphere damage.
13:32, Today: DM rolled 12 using 1d20+2. reflex save vs. flaming sphere, dc 15.
13:26, Today: DM rolled 20 using 1d20. Gnoll will save, vs. sleep, DC 14.
13:26, Today: DM rolled 15 using 1d20. Gnoll will save, vs. sleep, DC 14.
13:25, Today: DM rolled 14 using 1d20. Gnoll will save, vs. sleep, DC 14. Gnolls are at a -1 for Enchantment spells (not included in the Dice Roller), so one of the three succumbed to Aidrin's spell (the one who was up on segment 10).

(8)
The gnoll squared off against Perrato's summoned beetle swings its axe downward in a viscious blow, but the beetle scuttles aside easily, avoiding the blow entirely.  The other gnoll is unable to act, unconscious and prone this round.

New map depicting positions HERE.  Totmacher is up on segment 6, followed by the rest of the gnolls on segment 4, then Perrato and his beetle (next-to-last round for the beetle) on 3.

Totmacher, reeling from his wounds and the misstep of his previous attack--but still riding his barbarian rage--elects to commit himself to a total defense.

(4)
The gnolls act.

One of the gnolls near Perrato moves, avoiding the summoned beetle, and closes with the Palonish priest.  A heavy axe blow, aimed at Perrato's head, is adroitly deflected by the priest as he employs his shield.

Another gnoll, burnt by Aidrin's flaming sphere, leaps away from the burning globe.  Moving swifly through the tall grass, the gnoll puts some distance between itself and the summoned incendiary, and then attempts to shoot an arrow at Aidrin...disastrously.  The gnoll's short bow twists in its hands, as the over-eager creature fumbles to fit arrow to string, and manages to stab itself with its own arrow and drop the bow.

The gnolls facing Asher split up, and move to opposite sides of the monk.  The first gnoll's axe blow is so poorly aimed that the creature almost keels over, but recovers its balance.  The second gnoll fares little better, the blade of its weapon missing by a wide margin.

OOC:  12:16, Today: DM rolled 7 using 1d20+4. Gnoll attack vs. Asher, second.
12:13, Today: DM rolled 21 using 1d20+2. Critical miss check, DC 10.
12:12, Today: DM rolled 5 using 1d20+4. Gnoll attack vs. Asher, first.
12:02, Today: DM rolled 4 using 1d20+2. Critical miss check, DC 10.
12:02, Today: DM rolled 4 using 1d20+3. Bow attack vs. Aidrin.
12:00, Today: DM rolled 15 using 1d20+4. Gnoll attack vs. Perrato.
11:57, Today: DM rolled 5 using 1d8+3. Damage vs. Tot.
11:57, Today: DM rolled 20 using 1d20+4. Second gnoll attack vs. Tot, AC 19.
11:56, Today: DM rolled 7 using 1d20+4. Gnoll attack vs. Tot, AC 19.
Note that Asher's AC drops from 17 to 15, due to the gnoll's flanking.  Perrato and his beetle are up next.  Tot is at 5 hp, rage-enhanced.  He will drop to -3 upon termination of the rage.  The gnoll attacking Perrato moved from H13 to I14 to H15, to avoid the AOO from the beetle.  Updated map is shown HERE.

Moses only had to see a burning bush...

As he and his remaining beetle are beset by two particularly unfriendly gnolls, Perrato ruefully wishes that he'd spent less time with Mithran scripture and beatific nature walks and more time observing the combat techniques of Paldorian soldiers. Nonetheless, his limited practice in the martial craft enables him to bring his morningstar to its mark. "Hay solamente tanto perdón que te puedo ofrecer, Señor Perro," he mutters as he draws his weapon back to a ready position.

[OOC: Perrato attacks the gnoll in H 15, and by my best guess he hits.
21:28, Today: Perrato Viatomagne rolled 20 using 1d20+5. Attack gnoll, morningstar.
21:35, Today: Perrato Viatomagne rolled 6 using 1d8+1. Damage on gnoll--morningstar.
]

Then Perrato shifts his positon directly to the north to stand just next to his remaining celestial ally, realizing that all too soon he and his insect friend will be outnumbered.

[OOC: Perrato takes a five-foot step to G 16.]

Perrato's morning star catches the gnoll squarely in the shoulder, staggering the creature.  Snarling, the wounded gnoll prepares to pounce on the cleric.  Perrato's summoned beetle again attempts to sink its mandibles into the leg of the gnoll attacking it, but misses as the gnoll springs aside.

OOC:  New round.  Asher is up, followed by Aidrin, then the two original gnolls on Perrato (one of whom will have to get up from the ground where Perrato had Commanded it to lie).  Following that is Tot, then the rest of the gnolls, and then we're back to Perrato and his insect buddy.

Aidrin attempts to dazzle the ravening gnoll facing him with a spell--the gnoll, however, is having none of it.  As the wizard begins the incantation and mystic gestures that accompany the dweomercraft, the gnoll simply swings its battleaxe at the human, cutting him down midway through his spell.  The flaming sphere, robbed of any impetus to move, remains static.
