Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

Looks like Asher will climb onto the wagon and try to aim the flask at the
burning building. If he was able to hear the boys directions to Aine, he will
point the flask and shout "libas". If not, please insert: Asher asks Aine, "how
do you work this thing?", etc. before pointing and shouting "libas".

Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

Faced with a roaring fire and the ambient noise of a gathered crowd, Asher
is unable to hear the boy telling Aine the trigger words for the flask
(Listen roll is a 4+3=7 for a DC of 18).  Nonetheless, the monk leaps up
onto the wagon bed and calls out to the ranger, "How do you work this
thing?"   Sighing heavily, the ranger pats the neck of one of the horses and
vaults up into the wagon herself.  Reaching out to the monk, the ranger
grasps his arm and leans in close.  "I can't be yelling command words at
you...this thing has ears," she indicates the glass flask (Wisdom check is a
16+2=18 for a DC of 15 to not yell out an answer to Asher...sorry if the
check seems a bit heavy-handed, but things are a bit slow right now...check
out the RPoL site for dice-rolling details, if you're interested in the
mechanics).  Succinctly, Aine gives Asher the command words, then seizes the
reins of the wagons' horse team.  Still in control of the animals, the
ranger finds herself at the driver's wheel of the wagon, so to speak.

Asher yells out "Libas!", and a thin stream of water begins to trickle from
the mouth of the flask.  The volume of liquid appears to be about what one
would expect to emerge from a full container of this size--not very much,
but enough to fill mugs and glasses at table.

The kid on the wagon bed says to Asher, "Oi.  Y'r th' foreign-lookin' 'un
what saved that tike an' ol' Gran, eh?"  Asher briefly reflects that he
looks no more foreign than most of the mixed populace of Borderton, but then
notes that his clothes are a bit unusual for this region.  He is interrupted
in his short-lived rumination by the arrival of the older boy and Dominique,
both carrying the ladder.  The two replace the ladder on the side of the
wagon, and the older boy leaps up onto the wagon bed.  "Oi, Reg," he says,
addressing the younger boy, "looks like we've got some 'elp, eh?  An' th'
ladder's back, no 'arm done!"  Dominique calls out to Aine and Asher, "My
friends.  Can I be of assistance?"  He looks up at the wagon-bed, which is
occupied, and elects not to join Asher and the two boys.  Aine is still
holding the reins of the horse team...

Totmacher trots over to the fire-wagon, looking at Villhalas for direction
as he does so (as per a previous email from Scott).  The younger of the boys
cries out, "Davy!  Whass 'at?" the boy clutches at his friend's arm, and
looks at the approaching huge, soot-covered half-orc in alarm.  "Oi, jest
some 'un 'oo went inta th' inn, an' now come out," the older boy sounds
doubtful in his explanation.  "Or some efreet, come t' take us 'way...'cause
them's fire creatures!" whispers the younger boy as he eyes Totmacher
fearfully.

Aine has control of the wagon's horse team, Asher has a mounted flask with a
drinking fountain's volume of water spilling from it, two kids are on the
wagon's bed with the monk, and Dom and Tot are immediately adjacent to the
wagon.  What are your plans?  Thomas Aelbric has been immobile for this
entire scenario.  I'm waiting to hear from Villhalas regarding his actions,
and I will address Team Alpha (Garryn and Caylin) soon.

Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

This encounter has been giving me a side cramp from laughing so hard--

Tot will yell to Asher--

"Monk!  I think I can piss farther than that!"  While gestering the act of
urination towards the blaze--

Then turn to the boys and let out an extended, obnoxious, forced, almost
sinister laugh.

Tot will then join Vil in the questioning, providing support as needed.

Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

Asher shouts out "Torrens", and a veritable geyser emerges from the small glass flask, blasting through the evening air.  "Shit-muffins!" Aine curses as she attempts to control the horses and the recoil force of the flask as it acts upon the wagon's bed.  Sawing at the horses' bits, and attempting to guide the horses around to the southern side of the inn (Handle Animal check is a 6+4=10 for a DC of 10...just making it), the ranger is nevertheless able to aim a glare back at the monk--and then realizes SHE had suggested that the last command word should be used.  The two boys, however, seem absolutely elated with the way things are transpiring.  Leaping up and down--precariously on the moving wagon--both kids are effusive in their encouragement... "Oi, foreign-lookin' guy!  'At's it!"..."Aim fer th' top o' th' inn!  We'll 'ave 'er down in no time!"  Asher is unsure as to whether the older boy is referring to putting the fire out, or collapsing the entire building.  The glass flask is putting out roughly 300 gallons/minute (this is out of the DMG, so don't blame me).  Aine has managed to guide the horses to a position that allows Asher to keep the water's vector trained on the burning inn.  New map up on the site.

A small cheer erupts from the crowd gathered about the inn.  The mood among the crowd is shifting into a slightly carnivalesque atmosphere.  Vendors of food and beverage are beginning to make their way through the throngs, and some people are partaking.  Several calls of support ring out..."Good on ye, there!"...."Watch yerselves, luvs"...."I say, well-done!"..."I coulda done 'at, better'n 'at, too"...*most* of the support seems positive.

Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

The water geysering out of the magical flask is beginning to have some effect on the flames raging in the southern portion of the inn.  Gouts of steam erupt as Asher continues to spray water at the conflagration.  Aine maintains control over the horse team, and the two boys on the wagon haven't fallen off yet--although each has come close on several occasions.

OOC:  Continuing to fight the fire will require successful "to hit" rolls on Asher's part, and Handle Animal rolls on Aine's part.  Let me know what you want to do.

Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

Kev, it looks like you have already rolled for Asher's ability to handle the flask so, Asher will continue to try to extinguish the blaze from the upper floor down.

Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

OOC:  Hey Brian, similar to combat, this will be resolved on a turn step-by-turn step basis, although the time steps will be longer than 6 seconds.  Go ahead and roll a "to hit" roll using your base attack value and dex modifier.  I'll roll for Aine to keep the wagon and horses in control and helping you, and will post as soon as I see your roll.  Also, feel free to post descriptions of how Asher is doing something, details of the situation, etc. when you do take an action.

Cheers,
Kev

Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

Asher continues to apply the water fountaining from the magical flask to the blaze engulfing the Pigrims’ Rest.  Aine, apparently relishing the task of handling the firewagon’s horse team, provides Asher with excellent opportunities to douse the flaming structure—guiding the horses and wagon back and forth around the inn.  Asher, for his part, plys the water streaming from the flask with skill—eliminating much of the fire from the inn.  After some time spent fighting the fire, Asher and Aine manage to quell most of the flames.  Meanwhile, a bucket brigade has formed, and the task of extinguishing the fire is further aided.  The two boys have not left the wagon, and are continuing to leap about and shout encouragement.  "Oi!  Th' foreign-lookin'guy's th' best!  E's a dead-eye shot wi' th' water, 'e is!  Go, foreign-guy, go!  An' th' girl knows 'er 'orses, she does!  Run 'em through their paces, girl-driver!"

Aine darts a venomous look back over her shoulder, and barks, "Call me 'girl' one more time, boy, and I'll make certain that you BOTH become girls yourselves.  Savvy?"  Apparently the lads don’t, as they continue to provide left-handed compliments with undiminished enthusiasm.

Soon, the fire is under control, and both Asher and Aine gulp breaths of air and wipe their sweat- and soot-stained faces.  The fire is dying now, and the citizens of Borderton are apparently making a concerted effort to put out the remaining hotspots in the inn.  As the bucket brigade continue their work, an explosion is heard to the north…

Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

Accidentally posted this message to the private message board; reposting here.

Asher looks to the North, scanning the horizon above the buildings, for a sign of smoke that may reveal the location of the second explosion. He takes a quick survey of the rest of the crew, glancing from Aine and Dom to Tot and Vil, to see if anyone else may have spotted anything.

He says to Aine, "Perhaps we should get our group on the wagon and head North."

Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

Aine nods and urges the horses towards Totmacher and Villhalas.  Dominique swings onto one of the wagon’s running boards, holding on grimly as the horses surge forward.  Asher easlily maintains his standing position behind the mounted, magical decanter.  Water is still spewing from decanter; Asher continues to train the stream on the smoldering inn.  The two boys still cling to the wagon, barnacle-like in their ability to avoid falling off of the on-rushing vehicle, and continuing to shout encouragement to the ”foreign-guy” and the ”girl”.  As onlookers dodge aside, Aine reaches the group and expertly reins in the horses.  Mustaches and Soot-face gape a bit at the sight of the ranger at the buckseat of the wagon—reins in hand—and the presence of Asher, arcing water onto the upper story of the inn.  Dominique wipes sweat from his brow with one hand, the other clinging with white-knuckled intensity to the handrail provided for passengers using the wagon’s running-board.

Asher is faced with Totmacher and a seemingly distracted Villhalas.

Asher shouts "Libas" to the spewing flask before turning to the Half-brothers and stating "I believe we may be needed elsewhere."

Next he addresses the enthusiastic youth, "Is there a command that will shut this thing off?"

Re: Firewagon:  Aine and Asher

Asher shouts out "Libas", and the fountaining geyser of water erupting from the magical flask is reduced to a mere trickle.  The older lad answers the monk’s question.  "Oi!  Foreign-guy!  Jes say th' word a second time, an' th' bottle'll go dry-like, eh?"

Villhalas springs aboard the wagon, and Aine sends the horses leaping ahead.  Dominique, gripping the handrail tightly from his perch along the wagon’s running board, is heard to mutter between clenched teeth, "Easy, my friend.  Easy."

The younger boy, upon Aine’s gee-up command to the horses, shouts out, "GO, girl-driver, go!  'At's it, oi, 'at's IT!"  Aine, mouth set in a grim line, narrows her eyes but deigns no response.

The wagon careens through the streets, as Aine plots a somewhat circuitous route towards a column of black smoke that can be seen rising from the north, dark against the star-spangled evening sky.
