Re: Player Game Discussion
I'm using this section of our forum to share this, because 'Player Game Discussion' is the closest to what I want to post.

This is not my work, but was told to me by a D&D player who was old when I started.  It's worth passing on, both for it's instructive and amusing aspects.

It's a description of the corner alignments, and is illustrated by a scenario:

Four characters, each with the corner alignments, have just caught, red handed, a guy murdering a fifth party member.

the Lawful Good guy says;  "we need to take this guy back to town, give him a fair trial within the local system, find him guilty, then hang his ass!"

The Chaotic Good dude says; "we don't need to take him back to town and go to all that trouble, we know he's guilty!  We should just hang the bastard here!"

The Lawful Evil guy says; "we can find him guilty among ourselves as a party, and then we should burn him at the stake!"

The Chaotic Evil guy says "we don't need to waste time doing any of that stuff!  We should torture him first, and THEN burn him at the stake!"

After dispatching the guard last game, I would clean my War Knife on his garments, and try to arrange him to where it looks like he just fell asleep at his post.

AND I don't want to continue into the cave by myself.  I think it might be time for the Dwarfs to take the point.  However, I'll conduct a brief recon.

Do you have 'sneaking' or 'hide' or anything like that?  If you have higher stats than Gilgond, feel free to take the point.

Re: Player Game Discussion
I would like to point something out that will save us all a great deal of time.

this is not directed to anyone in particular but it may seem so.

In the old days of gaming when there were really no skills or skill systems - players would need to out smart the game master or perhaps devise extremely clever and knowledgeable things to over come the situations as set forth by the dm.

Now in Hackmaster we have a great deal of power as players in how we create and skill up our characters. Skills are provided for play to enable players to get a rough idea of what thier character is capable of doing. Hack Master is particularly adept at this.

The skill system is not just a number - but also the level of skill you have (ie there are skill levels - Novice, Average Expert Master etc.) these levels tell us what is possible for a particular character to accomplish as well as the chance they have to do so.

For instance in other systems you might be able to accomplish Super human feats at a low skill level with the aide of an amazing roll.

In hack master there is a glass ceiling set in place to keep that from happening and thus creating a more realistic game model.

ALSO and this IS KEY - WE ARE NOT OUR CHARACTERS: though a player may know about about some special information that would give his Character a huge and or perceived benefit - the character may not have the skill to know that.

READ the skills section become familiar with the limits of what you can do.

Lets not waste a ton of time on things that can be handled with a die roll and brief decisions.

I love playing with you guys I really do ... and I think I may have been guilty of this myself in the past I know I annoyed a certain member of our group to no end and for that I am sorry.

We need to find the balance of speed of play against overwhelming caution....
The way to do this is to not spend hours and hours on things.

Last session just really brought this into focus for me... Gilgond you are not the only one to be guilty of this I am as well but we all need to step up the pace a bit.

Please.

PS if this is coming off harsh it is not meant to be I have a terrible upper respiratory flu that is near to killing me and as far as I know has killed in the past week several people... I do not believe I shall shuffle off this mortal coil or anything ... but I feel icky in a bad way.

Re: Player Game Discussion

concerning the current game;

We should probably stay here, nursing Vel Serta back to life.  I know I could use a drink from the water barrel in the squad room.

First aid, sleep, study, meditation, all that until we get him stable.  If necessary, I think I could construct a litter from a couple of spears and my rope so that two of us could carry him out of here.  Let's try to get him up, though, of course.

As for what ever is going on upstairs, how lucky can you get?  We could probably just wait here, and let more of these guys get taken out.  Maybe it's something like size that will keep whatever is up there from messing with us.  but, we shouldn't wait too long, as our escape route could be blocked off.

Just some thoughts on the situation.  What do you guys think?

"Har har, that guy did splat good!"

I vote for getting Val Serta out of here, while the bandits and beast are still fighting each other.  We will hopefully get back to the farm, and we will not have to worry as much about the bandits regrouping and attacking us.

Once the lord is safe, if you want to come back and clear out this place, that is fine with me.

Re: Player Game Discussion

so i found out what this little round orange ball does, that has a bug in it.  if you swollow it you will be encased, in the same stuff the guy is in, and it will protect you for up to 24 hours, so raz you will be getting your axe back, just be holding on to it when the effect ends, and krahn get ready to brain him with your mighty hammer.
