Re: 0.3 | Emperor's New Clothes : Parisa and Rasa bond
Rasa's mother jumped a little. She had quite forgotten about the mouthy little puppet for a while. Still she shook it off before her discomfort showed too much and smiled.

"Something pretty, of course. You choose whatever you like from the stocks in this room. Rasa knows what is reserved for other projects. As for you...." The woman swept past the puppet with his twisty head following her across the room and knelt looked down at the smallest puppet-master she had ever seen.

"Ah, yes. I think... yes, hold on a moment dear."

And at this, she swept away.

"Yes mama," Rasa said in response to her critique. "And thank you."

She began to rummage through the fabric bolts again, but these smaller and more colourful rolls were further back, hidden by the linen and cottons. As her mother left the room again, Rasa reappeared with a selection of two and showed them to her friend. One was deep black, which as it caught the light shimmered in a soft gold. The other was bronze and had a similar effect, but with a darker sheen.

"This is dupioni. It's my very favourite silk because I like the texture." She ran her hand over the slub, "The men in the family weave all the silk in our workshop themselves and I like to watch them sometimes when I have time. They create the effect by weaving two sorts of colours together so that it looks pretty as you view it under the light. Do you see? Baba creates a lot of this silk, I think it's his favourite too, but oh- you should talk to him if you want to know more about how it's made because he could take you through the whole process and I only know a little bit really. You would like him very much I think, he's very nice. I think he is a little bit sad sometimes that I don't have any brothers so I hope to have a lot of sons so he'll be proud of me when he is very old."

She realised then she was talking about family again and quickly changed the subject back to a relevant one. "So which colour would you like? I brought these because I think they match the best, but if you want something brighter we have a lot more! Take your pick."

Re: 0.3 | Emperor's New Clothes : Parisa and Rasa bond
Parisa almost immediately pointed at the bronze one, her now awake puppet chiming in with its comments. "Allamah Akil wears that colour, doesn't he? Your mama is very nice! Ooh, can we watch your baba make silk one day? Parisa has only ever seen puppets and instruments be made, I'm sure she would love to see how clothes are made from start to finish!" To her puppets words, Parisa gives a quick nod. She was finding herself somewhat overwhelmed by just how friendly Rasa's family was. It had been a long time since she had last let anybody be nice to her and she was finding it difficult to hold the smile back, or to remove the pink in her cheeks.

"He does! I know his coat is one of ours because it carries our mark on the cuff, so this might even be from the same dye lot. I'm happy you like mama because she is a sweet person even if she can get a bit pot-wavy sometimes, but I wish baba was here because he would adore all of you. When we get a day off we can go to the looms and you can meet him and see how it all works, okay? It's really interesting!"

She was getting seemingly more delighted with every second that passed. Rasa replaced the black silk back on the shelf and rolled out the bronze. This fabric was easily half the width of the linen, but it looked luxurious despite the texture. Two yards of the fabric was carefully measured, then cut accordingly. Rasa then pressed the fabric in half width ways, sewed up two of the open sides and turned it the right way round. It was then pressed under heat and she sewed up the remaining side by hand, humming to herself.

"I can't imagine her waving a pot at anyone! Oh if you could help drag Parisa away from her work upgrading Madafi I am sure I would not be the only one to be thankful, and for such a sight I think she would enjoy it too! Wouldn't you Peri?"

Parisa nodded a little, her eyes transfixed by Rasa's movements. Tailor and Puppet Maker... the two professions were so different and yet had such striking similarities. She could imagine her own hands in Rasa's place, smoothing out the leg of a most delicate puppet as she set to cutting out a mouth. Maybe when she had more time she could learn Rasa's craft too... and teach her hers?

"Then I shall make it happen. Baba would be so happy!"

Silk sash complete, she approached the puppet and wrapped it neatly around his waist, closing the coat and making him seem more like their sensei than ever. She then sat heavily on the floor at his feet and worked to even the hem.

"Tell me about the papa you live with, Peri. Is he a nice person too? Baba once told me that he designs a lot of the machines used in the training halls and that most of them don't even have any fail safes on them! Is that true? He must be a very clever man to design so many intricate little things. Did he make you too Seda? How very lucky you are. I just find it such a shame that he doesn't buy you pretty things, because you are such a pretty girl!"

Re: 0.3 | Emperor's New Clothes : Parisa and Rasa bond
Parisa nodded at Rasa's question quickly. Was he nice? Of course! He was the only reason she was even alive!

"Mirza-Sepehr is very clever! He made me and gave me a voice, but I don't know him as well as Parisa does. He doesn't talk much and doesn't like people but I know he loves us because he didn't shout or get angry when Parisa used to make me scream all the time. He also protects us from the white haired devi even though we know he's scared of him too."

Parisa nodded to each of these points. Sepehr wasn't really one to show his love and kindness in the most conventional ways, but Parisa wasn't really a conventional child. In a way, it had proven the perfect situation for both of them.

That took Rasa by surprise. She hesitated and looked round at her friend.

"What is the white-haired devi? Do you have a demon haunting your house?"

"Not just our house, but ALL the houses! The demon is the secret weapon of Rejinnqeshlāq and it keeps us safe and scares away any who try to come for us, but it is an evil demon and it pretends to be nice but we know it wants to take us back to that place and away from mirza-Sepehr!"

Parisa nodded rapidly to her puppet's words, breathing a little heavily on behalf of her puppet. Talking about the demon always got her a little riled up and she was frankly surprised Rasa didn't know about it.

Re: 0.3 | Emperor's New Clothes : Parisa and Rasa bond
Rasa's eyes widened in horror as Parisa spoke. She had no idea the village had a devi as a secret weapon! After what happened with her grandfather, surely the Kazekage would know that any sort of contract with a magical entity was a very bad idea indeed.

"Even if it's evil, they must have it on a very tight leash. Or maybe Mirza-Sepehr has upset it in some way and there's bad blood. What place does it want to take you back to? What does it look like? Does it have horns?"

This was very serious! If the leaders of the village didn't do anything about it, then it would be up to the girls.

"He's tall and old looking and Parisa says he'll take her back to the hospital but she doesn't want to go because it's all questions and darkness! She says some people have called it a ghost before but WE know it's a demon because ghosts aren't evil! He looks like a normal old evil man, but we know it's a farce!"

"B-but..." Rasa's eyes were wide. "What about the kazekage? Surely she must know! If she doesn't know, then we must tell her straight away else the devil could only be biding it's time before it devours her and cleanses the whole village in smokeless fire!"

There was such thing as too many folk stories at bed time. Her baba would regret this later.

"If she doesn't, we think you're right, we must tell her now! Parisa has always been too scared to go by herself, although she says the kazekage definitely isn't a djinni... although I am not quite sure why she is so adamant on this piece of information."

Parisa laid Madafi on the ground before turning to face Rasa again, ready for battle. Parisa was never one for rushing around finding one thing or another before leaving for anything... it was a legitimate question whether the girl even changed clothes before leaving the house in the morning.

Re: 0.3 | Emperor's New Clothes : Parisa and Rasa bond
The hunt was sadly cut short.

"Here you are!" Madame Habbal swept back into the room with a garment laid over her arm. "I made these myself about oh, two years ago for Rasa's birthday. Oh but she had grown so much in those weeks I was working on them that they barely fit her and she had to wear something else. Do you remember these dear?"

She held out the garment in question. It was a kaftan, with long draping sleeves that were attached along the length of the robe, a large gap left between the seams to allow a sash across the waist to tuck it into a slim, flattering shape. There was a also a pair of sirwal that matched exactly. Although the outfit was neither fully silk nor excessive, it was certainly more beautiful (and from the look of it much more expensive) than anything Parisa had ever owned.

"Now they're going to be a little big I should think. But that's alright, we can take them up a little. Would you like to try them on?"

Rasa's expression went from blank bemusement to one of recognition.

"Oh I remember those! My chest went very large very quickly and I never got to wear them. It was such a shame- oh but Parisa they would suit you very much. I'm sure your papa would like them. Try them on!"

Re: 0.3 | Emperor's New Clothes : Parisa and Rasa bond
Parisa's eyes grew wide at the sight of the garments. Nobody had done anything really nice for the girl in over four years... mainly because she didn't let them but that didn't make the act any less foreign, nor exciting. Giving Rasa's mother a querying gaze the girl then eagerly took the garments from her arm. Despite wearing mostly black herself, Parisa's bright eyes and hair lend themselves very well to the colours of the kaftan. Indeed, the sky blue that dominated the design was almost identical to the girl's eyes and no doubt they would compliment well. The red sirwal, while simple once again seemed almost made for Parisa's own colours.

Lifting the garments, one in each hand, Parisa held them against her body. She was far too shy to put them on then and there and would feel very strange asking for somewhere to change, but by the looks of things they would almost definitely fit the small girl. If anything, they would possibly be a touch big, but that, at least, would mean they would fit her for some time yet.

"There's a screen over there dear, if you're a little shy." The Habbal matron vaguely in the direction of a corner, where a concertina screen stretched with silk had been erected for fittings such as this.

Re: 0.3 | Emperor's New Clothes : Parisa and Rasa bond
Bending down, Parisa placed Seda next to Madafi before quickly turning to hurry off behind the screen. Parisa's mother had a similar opinion on fashion at large as Sepehr did. Clothes were functional at best and it was really only her father who ever bought her anything interesting. Putting on these new clothes brought a certain sadness to her, but she had already had a good cry today and she was not planning to have another!

Peeking out from behind the screen, Parisa darted her head back to take a couple of big breaths. This was all moving rather fast and she wasn't sure she disliked it... but it was quite overwhelming. Sheepishly, the girl slinked out from behind the screen, hunched over to make her appear even smaller than she already was.

Despite her attempts to be invisible Parisa wore the colours well, especially without her customary shawl hiding her vibrant hair. As suspected, they were a touch big on her and judging by the way she clutched at them she would probably need something to help her actually keep them on... that or she had simply had bad experiences with trying on clothes.

"Oh my," Rasa's mother tried not to smile too widely. "You are tiny, aren't you dear? That's alright. Fetch me the pins Rasa, we'll bring this in a little."

She knelt down next to Parisa and smoothed the fabric down her back. "You wear the colours very well. Why, perhaps it was meant to wait a little longer for the wearer. Rasa, pins dear."

The other girl looked delighted. "You look wonderful! You really do - it brings out the colour of your hair."

At her mothers sharp tone, Rasa started, finding the pot of pins from the floor and offering them up. She held the pot while the woman worked to pin the necessary adjustments onto Parisa's robe.

"Mother..." she began, uncertainly, a question teetering on the edge of her tongue. "Do you know anything about the white devi?"

Despite Rasa bringing up the most dangerous and devilish white haired devi, Parisa remained blissfully ignorant. Her eyes had glazed over a little at the compliments from her new friend and Kishar, and despite the size problems she really did feel quite good about the clothing. They weren't particularly functional, unlike the robe she had taken to wearing which had enough pockets hastily sewed on she could probably store Madafi in them... but they were nice, and felt nice.

"Nothing at all? Because he sounds really dangerous. Pari, what did it look like? Mama might recognise him."

Her mothers pinning was a lot faster than hers and the woman was far more experienced at gauging the correct sizes too, so work was going quickly. How pretty Parisa looked in her new clothes - so much prettier than they had done on Rasa with all of her funny shapes straining the seams in all the wrong places. Clothing in Govadistan was not meant to be tight, loose fabric was modest and let the skin breathe.

Re: 0.3 | Emperor's New Clothes : Parisa and Rasa bond
Parisa blinked and shook her head to bring herself back to the real world. What did the White Devi look like...? Seda was a little far away to help her field that one and she certainly didn't want to disrupt Kishar's work, so the girl did her best with what she had available.

Rising up on her toes, Parisa put on her best frown and did her best to stare down her nose at Rasa... something that, even with the added height, she wasn't quite capable of doing. Reaching up, the girl took grip of her hair, making her best effort to hold it in the same way she remembered the Devi's hair to be.

"Ra ra ra one month!"
