Re: 0.5 | Fledgling
Govadistan was not called such a thing for no reason. Set low into the rock as it was, the village was relatively well protected from the wind, but all the way up on the cliff top it was quite a different story. Below them, the hidden village stretched across the entirety of the ravine in clearly divided districts, with the great kazekage's tower looming over everything from the centre. They could see the hammam, the gardens and the glint of sunlight on mirrors and beyond it, the great sand dunes of the desert which stretched as far as the eye could see. The village was truly an oasis within the wastes.

The wind whipped around them with furious intent, tugging at their clothes, threatening to steal her dupatta and carry it away. Rasa shielded her eyes as they climbed, wondering how allamah-Akil could seem so unaffected by it all.

"Sensei!" she called over the howl of the wind, "Where are we going?"

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
"Up!" he laughed and paused to check Rasa was following. As they got closer to the top the wind pressed them harder and even he had to steady himself against the rock wall periodically. Just not very often.

When at last they broke up onto the plateau proper the wind proved to be at its worst. Only rarely did the air forced through the streets reach this kind of strength. Admittedly it ranked low if one was going to measure gales, but it was far from being a comfortable breeze.

Akil stopped again to look down on the village and folded his arms, drifting off into thought.

"You can see the whole thing from here."

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
By the time they had reached the top, the girl was practically pinning her scarf to her head, but a fierce gust of wind finally snatched it from her grasp, ripping it from her head and carrying it away over the cliff top. No doubt it would land miles away. Lengthy brunette locks, free from the headscarf confines at last, billowed around her dramatically.

"Oh no!" Rasa leapt forward to grab it by instinct, tripping clumsily on the length of her skirts. The act provided her with enough momentum to snatch it from the sky before it was lost forever. She even managed to catch herself before she fell face first onto the rock, or over the cliff edge.

Rasa Habbal rolled 5 successes using 5d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s with rolls of 10(+7),10(+10,9),9,6,3. catch scarf (agility+tai).

"Phew..." She drew the fabric to her chest protectively, her heart thudding so loudly she could feel it in her ears. That had been too close.

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
The jounin helped her up and took her scarf from her. This time he looped it around her neck, tied a firm knot in it, and tucked it into her clothes.

"I said it would be windy. Are you warm enough, little dove?" His hand rested outside her shoulders as though to pin her in place despite the wind. The chances of her blowing away were less than slim, but Rasa did occassionally find ways to beat the odds.

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
Rasa nodded, although it was with uncertainty. Despite the beating sun it was not in the least bit warm up here; the wind was as cold as it was furious.

Turning her gaze up to meet his, her question stuck in her throat as she noticed for the five-hundredth time how handsome he was. There had been more than one reason she had passed out upon graduating. There was no doubt in her mind that he had a plan - allamah was, after all, so very clever, but she could not begin to understand what it was. The wind was simply too strong up here to practice her elemental manipulation jutsu. Perhaps he had just wanted to show her the magnificent view? And it truly was magnificent.

She felt her heart jump. Allamah, how romantic you are!

He nodded, looking out across the village again.
"It is always beautiful. Coming up here makes it easier to see that."

He let her go gently. The wind pulled the tail of his hair around, and plucked at his kaftan enough to show glimpses of his tonfa.

"Your chakra control has improved a lot lately. Before you know it you'll have all of the Habbal silk arts at your call. I hope you rested yesterday, like I asked you to?"

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
Rasa took a moment to daydream about truly mastering every jutsu her clan had created, but it seemed like an impossibility if not a very long way off. She would never be able to compare to her sisters, or her mother, and certainly never to her great grandfather. The silk-weaving jutsu barely seemed like an option at this stage.

Still she nodded. She had rested, if rested meant elaborate hand-embroidery for some minor Lords wedding garments. Only Djinn can create gold, her father had said. Only Djinn, and one long-gone kage.

"Are we going to train all the way up here, allamah? The wind is so strong!"

He just nodded in agreement and brushed her fringe away from her face, now that her hair wasn't properly held by her scarf.

"Hold your nerve." The jounin reched forward and gripped her waist, at first pulling her toward him and just off the floor... then throwing her backward to the edge of the plateau above the desert. In the same instant the layers of copper worn under his kaftan collapsed into a deluge of metal dust around his feet.

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
At first her heart thudded in surprise and she peered into her sensei's golden eyes with a flush on her cheeks. Rasa was such a little creature, light and delicate like the silk woven by her family. She knew only of his warmth, of the brush of his hair against her cheek - and then, of a very sudden and very unwelcome launch into the air. Instinct told her to grab onto something, but there was nothing, and she found herself plummeting head first towards the village far below.

Rasa Habbal failed (no successes) using 4d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s with rolls of 1,5,6,7. will power +1 (edge) - overcome shock.

For many, the terror of the fall would be enough to snap them into resorting desperately to whatever techniques were at their disposal. The Habbal clan were meant to fly, it was in their blood, in their chakra, but this little dove barely seemed aware she even had wings, let alone how to use them. Staring upwards, she noticed only the dark of Yamin's hair getting smaller and smaller.

But sensei was watching, she had to snap out of this! How embarrassing it would be for him to have to scrape her off of the floor! To explain to her mother and her sisters that she had no natural talent after all, and they were probably better off without her.

Rasa Habbal rolled 5 successes using 4d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s with rolls of 9,9,10(+2),10(+9). will power +1 (edge) - overcome shock, second try.

She knew what she had to do. Yes, yes! She had to use that jutsu! Of course, clever sensei knew this was the perfect place to train it!

Rasa closed her eyes, taking her focus away from her rapid descent and executed the hand signs to the Habbal clans most famous jutsu. It caused the users chakra to seep from their bodies and into the very clothes they wore, entwining with the threads of silk and giving them perfect control of every inch of fabric. It was remarkable, powerful, turning their garments into dangerous weapons.

Rasa Habbal failed (no successes) using 5d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s with rolls of 3,6,5,5,7. activate jutsu (silk wing). Storyteller, on behalf of Rasa Habbal, failed (no successes) using 3d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s with rolls of 6,1,4. activate jutsu (silk wing) - forgotten dice.

And also, it was not working. With gravity working firmly against her, Rasa resigned herself to failure and did the only other thing she was able.

Scream.

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
The wind screamed with her, snapping and snagging her clothes into a blinding flurry of fabric. Even through that though she could see something else moving through the air with her: copper. The lances darted lower with renewed energy, entangling just an instant before Rasa hit them at an angle. She rolled down a sloped web which solidified into a cupped dish as she tumbled into the bottom.

A heartbeat later the platform began to rise up again.

Sensei folded his arms and waited until she was level with the cliff top again.

"Rasa, darling, show me your dragon sign again."

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
Rasa was only truly aware that she had been rescued from a messy and embarrassing death after spending several seconds in a curious copper dish. She attempted to compose herself as she was lifted, but dug her fingers into the soft metal as it became apparent just how high up they really were. She had never seen Yamin's ninjutsu talents before. How remarkable it was!

"Um... it's..." she froze, trying to remember, and went through the signs in her head. The one she produced was not only the sign of the dog, but it was a very poor one.

She gave her allamah a vaguely withered look.

He smiled at her and held up his hands in the correct formation.

"Maybe I should have checked your memory again first. But failure is a powerful teacher, so let's just try again."

Akil broke his hands out of the sign, pushing them far wide of each other and cracking the copper dish in half.

"Try to relax, and concentrate."

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
At least this time she had been expecting the fall. Sort of. It was not as though she leapt into the air when the ground beneath her literally parted, but the drop did not surprise her. Attempting to focus on her signs slowed her down, but she tried one more time. If this didn't work then she would loose her breath for sure! Or- what if sensei refused to train her any more? That would be terrible!

Rasa Habbal rolled 1 success using 8d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s with rolls of 9,4,3,7,7,1,5,6. activate jutsu (silk wing) + edge.

Admittedly it wasn't the most skilful execution, but it was enough. The wind caught in her sleeves, unfurling them like giant wings of silk into the air. The tumble through slowed and arching back, Rasa spread her arms in an awkward attempt to keep a hold on the chakra spreading throughout the fabric. Focus. Focus focus.

Rasa Habbal rolled 2 successes using 5d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s with rolls of 4,4,10(+2),8,2. keep control (agility+tai)

Caught by a sudden rush of air, she allowed herself to be drawn into the current and ascend back up to the cliff where Akil was presumably waiting. Although she was only meters away from solid ground, the fledgling felt as though she was in the centre of the sky. Hit with the realisation that she had finally achieved something with her jutsu, Rasa's fear dissolved and she laughed, delighted.

"Sensei!" she had to yell over the wind to make herself heard, the cloth slapping and rustling around her. "I did it! I did it sensei!"

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
Whether he heard her or not he raised his arms up and clapped. Then he dropped them again and flicked them at her: back, back. His copper pulled away, curling back on itself toward him and settling into that writing mass of sand about his feet which mimicked the Kazekage's ready stance.

Akil brought his hands together, drawing his chakra up.
Readying to attack.

Re: 0.4 | Fledgling
As it was, the warm fuzzy feeling of achievement didn't last long. Sensei's applause was a confidence boost, but this was lost the moment she realized he was going to strike. Only too aware that the metal dust was well within attacking distance, she took his advice to get as far away from him as possible, rising higher as she did pull back.

Her pace could not begin to match the lightening speed of Akil's jutsu.

"Now that you're up, let's see if you can stay up there."
He thrust out his right hand, palm forward to throw a lance of the metal in Rasa's approximate direction. His intention wasn't to hit her but just to challenge her control of herself and her jutsu, so he struck wide.

Roll Parry+2 to evade, and Agi+Tai if that fails
