Vampire: the Masquerade - s Few Game Ideas
Yes, rules and mechanics from VtR, and with Disciplines and fluff from VtM. This will use Generation and Blood Potency. All Disciplines from VtM, using the VtR version where they overlap. (Auspex still has Aura Sight tho.)

Is this a problem for anyone?

Not for me. I like VtR 2. There's an official Masquerade <-> Requiem translation guide that includes Thaumaturgy if you want to use it.

Yeah that's where the Thaumaturgy will be coming from. Most rituals can be translated on a case-by-case basis, if they aren't already.

Re: Vampire: the Masquerade - s Few Game Ideas
I personally think it's silly to charge XP for rituals. I see a lot of GMs do this, but why make it cost XP when you have to go on a mini-quest for it? Rituals, and having a bunch of them, are part of what makes Thaumaturgy so handy. Unlike, say, Celerity, which is just plain awesome. But anyway.

Do you have any idea of what kinds of characters will be open to players?

Yeah. It depends on the Era. But I know what Clans and Disciplines are available for each.

Are these intended as basically starting neonate sorts of games?

Re: Vampire: the Masquerade - s Few Game Ideas
Depends on the game.

1) Yes, sort of? Low Generation (ergo higher starting Blood Potency)

2) Established Neonate. Extra XP over starting character.

3) Starting Character.

4) Ancillae is the intended XP range here. Characters range from recently Embraced (but lots of action for XP) to a hundred or so years old.

If you wait until August, the V5 pdf will be available. I think a Masquerade game will generate more interest then when people get access to the new edition.

A game focusing on the actual ancients in an ancient setting would be terribly interesting, but neonates is done to death and back again. Twelve times. Until the horse corpse is completely out of flesh to kick and there's just a pile of dust.

I on the other hand, although I've been playing Vampire for 10+ years, never get tired of sticking it to the ancients :D

I disagree. Much as I enjoy the setting, from what I can tell there are limitations in commonality between oWoD and V5 as far as rules go. They're just trying to do a nWoD again without the stigma they managed to cause the first time 'round (IMNSHO).

That said, if what you're going for is the setting and don't care so much for the rules, this might be a good idea. But it will also require you, as ST, to learn a whole new ruleset (then again, so will everyone else so that might not be as large as problem as it first appears). TBH, I'm not thrilled about any of the options (aside from the Transylvania Chronicles, as mentioned) but I'd definitely be willing to look into a game using V5, if only to see if I like the rules.

Re: Vampire: the Masquerade - s Few Game Ideas
The Bronze Age game IS the ancients. The only vampires more ancient are the Antediluvians. I mean, you can be anywhere from 7th to 4th gen. I don't see how to make that higher powered. Mithras is a Neonate at this time. There are so few Generations at this point all the Clans are 'Children of [Antediluvian Name]'

V5 - Doesn't have rules for Ancients game, and will be missing all clans but the Cam7. It is also more work to home brew for. I am gonna wait to run any of the weird games.

The only real Neonate game is the TC. All of them start with either more XP, or at a time when Blood was way more potent.

Re: Vampire: the Masquerade - s Few Game Ideas
If the bronze age game is basically starting character build points but with really low gen, it's not honestly the experience I'm otherwise looking for. That would feel more odd than anything.

The others I guess depend on how much xp you were envisioning?

Re: Vampire: the Masquerade - s Few Game Ideas
I will put it this way. The idea of the game is playing Mithras when he was a Neonate. Yes, you are powerful, but unskilled. Society a large is very young. Like a couple hundred years old. Most vampires are still figuring out there powers. You want to run a civilization? That can be done. Want to play as a blood god? Doable from the onset. But no one is going to be 4 thousand years old. Cuz that's older than the First City. That make sense? You are playing the ancients... When their career began.

Want to play stronger starting characters? Fall of House of Tremere is made for you young Elders/experienced Ancillae

Tenatitive Xp Ranges
1) 10 XP (Equiv to about 30 cwod xp, pre-recorded history life is dangerous after)
2) 10 XP
3) Starting Character
4) 25 xp

Re: Vampire: the Masquerade - s Few Game Ideas
I enjoy the idea of trying to figure out Vampires during the time they were still blood Gods. But muh muh fall of house Tremere could be cool (would it be like a Tremere focused group of players plotting against a group of Salubri focused players?)
Plus India, I actually really loved the picht you've made for it

Re: Vampire: the Masquerade - s Few Game Ideas
Fall of House of Tremere could be either. It could be a mixed Salubri and Tremere group. Or it could lean one way or the other. I would prefer at least one from either of the Clan.

Re: Vampire: the Masquerade - s Few Game Ideas
I get that the idea is more or less starting characters who so happen to have really large blood pools/blood spend per turn, I just don't honestly have an interest in that.

As for the others.. again, not what I was picturing/interested in as far as xp totals. You seem to have a lot of interest otherwise, you really shouldn't worry that this isn't my thing, I don't think you'll have any trouble putting a game together for either idea.

I'm not all that familiar with the VtR rules, but I'd still consider #1 (and #3, but I don't think that generated a lot of interest).

Re: Vampire: the Masquerade - s Few Game Ideas
With this many posts in the thread, it should be clear by now whether or not there is sufficient interest in this proposal to warrant creating a game based on it.

Please save all further discussion for that game, created by Steeldragon05, and linked to in the post immediately following this one.

Thank you.
