Interest Check: old world fantasy adventure, writing-centric

Okay, so I've got an (somewhat quirky) idea and a character(s) I'm seeking to flesh out a little more.  A combination of an old world style adventure, and a story with focus on smaller life moments.

The setting is Grecian; perhaps an alternate version where magical and mythical things were real, but more probably a Greece like fantasy setting.      An empire yet in its golden age, but at the threshold of its descent, with growing foreign threats, emerging political factions, and darksome evil growing unseen like a cancer.

The story arc (which would have a definite ending, if it continues long enough) involves a journey by ship to a location held by most to be cursed ground.    Said ship is owned by an ambitious and determined magus, and crewed by her servants, requisite minotaur bodyguard included.  An elementalist who specializes in wind, water, and shadow, she has a reputation that has begun to precede her.    Not the sort that attracts friends.

But, central as she is to the tale, this is about you:

Guide, specialist mercenary, stowaway, friend, relative, hostage, ex or current lover, captured enemy, witch-hunter hot in pursuit  --  human --  or otherwise-?  The possibilities are many!  The only real stipulation is that your character *must* be mortal --  no demi-gods, elementals, spirit beings, etc.    Beyond that, most character types would be considered.    (but nothing cartoony or absurd)

While this would basically run as a GM led adventure, what I'd hope to find is more along the lines of a writing partner, than a merely reactive player.  Perhaps more than one -- but not many more.   Probably, this would be free form, but I would not be averse to using something like the Window, or other lite system, if rolling dice happens to be attractive.    A somewhat leisurely posting rate is likely -- no demanding post quotas.   I would much prefer a degree of thought goes into the posts.

Still with me - ?     Feel free with questions, either here, or PM.

Seems quite interesting! Mind if I ask a few questions on the specifics of this opportunity?

Sounds like a lot of fun, I had two immediate thoughts:

1. I have always loved "Under Odysseus", a "blog" written by a minor Greek character from the Illiad describing the Trojan war. I was super bummed when the author stopped writing it, and today I thought maybe this game could be something that brought me as much enjoyment as I had reading it.

2. Have you heard of "Mazes and Minotaurs"? It is game that imagines an alternate history where D&D was not influenced by Jack Vance and Fritz Leiber, but instead by Greek myths. Instead of "dungeons", you have "islands", and instead of "wizards" you have "oracles", etc. It is from at least ten years ago, but it is completely free, and tries really hard to be that Old School Ruleset from an another dimension-- What first edition D&D might have been. It should give you a lot of ideas, and maybe make your prep work easier.

By the way, if you couldn't tell already, I would be interested in playing in your game.

Yes, absolutely, any that you have.    Either here, or use rmail, if you prefer that.

Danger Man --  oh, I've played M&M in fact, and still have those rules!   And they're pretty cool, I think.      But, I really want to steer clear of rigidly defined character classes, leveling-up, and all that. As well, I want magic working to not be so uniform.  I want to avoid sets of common, well known spells or items that anybody can predict.    Most magic will be considered dark in this setting, and most people will stay away from it.   Which doesn't mean characters have to --  any number of magic working types might be played, here.  However, a non magic using character can be just as successful, or even more so, which is the "magic" of free form (or mostly so).      You won't see that too often under a D&D sort of system.

Okay, I didn't expect to get this many replies!    And, I dislike turning this sort of thing into a competition.    Potentially, given that everyone is a good fit, I could possibly accommodate four players.      But: If you were really looking forward to being the sole player, please don't let this chase you away!   Let's see who's left after we do the following:

If you are serious about this, I want to see some sort of writing/post sample.    I don't care about the genre, character type or the setting.   Or whether it's old, or newly written.   Or whether you give me a URL, or paste the text into an rmail.  Any of that is fine.   I just want to see something that will give me an idea of what I can expect from you.

Please don't be overly worried about grammar --  yes, strong writing is a plus.   But, I'll consider the total package.   I've written with people for whom English was a second language, but who were super awesome to work with regardless, because their ideas and characterization were so strong.

And no, this doesn't mean the door is closed on any questions.   You can get those  answered first, then submit your post sample, if you're still interested.
