IC:2nd Edition AD&D  [Forgotten Realms]

So I got nostalgic and I am looking to run a 2nd edition revised Dnd game, I don't even know if there are people who play this anymore floating around and so I am sticking this here, checking for Interest.

It will be in the Forgotten Realms
I will allow the books as long as you have the source stuff available for me
I am thinking to run this adventure from the Waterdeep and it will span Urban, wilderness and dungeons.

There's a good number of us who still play this. You won't have any trouble filling a game. Just tell us where to RTJ!

Yeah, there are still plenty of people willing to fire up the Wayback Machine. Heck, some people never quit playing that edition, even twenty years ago when 3E was announced.

I might join just for the nostalgia.

Okay, let me make this clear.

I'm okay with everything in the Player's Option line, except Skills & Powers. That book was just broken. The other two books -- Combat & Tactics and Spells & Magic -- were great, and added a lot to the game. Plus there's the Epic Level Handbook which set a precedent we're still seeing today.

But I'd only participate in a game using S&P if the DM used it to create homebrew classes, or hand-picked which options were permitted. Left unchecked, it's game-breaking.

Nope I have no intentions of using the Options line, just good ol' 2nd edition revised. I will have up the game soon as I get some information laid out, I am on my cell phone. At the moment.

Potentially interested, especially for the options line being mercifully excluded. Depends on the game premise/setup.

Nothing beyond second edition is worth my time (not to mention the thousands of dollars I dropped in to that game - I got files and cabinets full of books for 1st and 2cd edition AD&D).
Don't know if I have heard of this Revised version though.

It came out around the same time as the Player's Option books, and has the same black-bordered cover and inner typefaces. It was mostly cosmetic changes -- more illustrations, different layouts.

Re: IC:2nd Edition AD&D  [Forgotten Realms]

I'd be very interested.  Might I suggest starting the game with the characters having about 10k XP.  Leveling up tends to be slower in 2nd Edition than later ones and then leveling up on RPoL can be even slower.  I like low level characters just fine but not sure I want to play a 1st level guy for the next 2 years.  At 10k everyone will be from 3rd to 5th level, which is are really cool levels to play.

Re: IC:2nd Edition AD&D  [Forgotten Realms]

I ran a modified 2cd edition Forgotten Realms game here, in 3 years my first levels never made it to 2cd level. I blame slow posting and 1 restart after the lot of us all went happily Metagamer and reached a point that was impossible to play. But we all had fun Doing it. (When you end up with first level characters whose combat skills are equal to a level 15, but still have the hit points of level 1, you will get the idea.)

I’d be interested in this as well, haven’t dusted my 2e-fu off in a while but it could be fun!

Or Monty Haul, as we liked to call it. LOL Don't hear that term much anymore, although it's certainly still going on!

AD&D, 1st or 2nd, is definitely my preference. Newer flavors just seem to lack the sense of danger. Sure, I want to play someone "heroic," but I want the character to earn it, not be given it by virtue of the nature of the game.

3e and pathfinder are the definition of monty haul and christmas-tree-characters. Unlike 2e where the recommendation is for 1 permanent magical item for 4 or so levels of advancement...

Anyways, allowing the complete book of necromancers would make me happy.

(and yes, my own gaming group still runs only on 2e juice.)

Re: IC:2nd Edition AD&D  [Forgotten Realms]

I would note for my own preferences, I'm not realllly looking for a level 1 start sort of game considering how glacial pbp advancement is.

Wow, does it? 2e modules sure don't support that! I prefer my games to be a bit more up the magic scale -- although not as high as going through a couple modules back to back will leave you. ;)

My TT group was created expressly to play 2e. Some of the players are in other edition games elsewhere (3.5/PF/5e), but our group is all about 2e.

Re: IC:2nd Edition AD&D  [Forgotten Realms]

I am published here (different thread) an "Attributes Chart" - used in moderation it works pretty well, used with no reguard to game balance, well that is one of the things that lead to the first restart of my last game ... (average character had 10 items from that chart ...)
Want to read it, look for things made by me in the community area - not allowed to mention it more completely here (have gotten in trouble for that in the past).
