IC: The Detour - a 5e game
We all know that there's nothing new under the sun, so I'm sure this is a game that's been run before. Heck, it's a game I've run before in 3.5 and would like to see if there's any interest in playing in 5e.

The general premise is that the PC's would be people from our Earth who find themselves in a DnD-esque world. The reason they're there would eventually be revealed to them as the story progresses. In the meantime, my hope is that the PC's develop a connection with one another. For this reason, I have a special  criteria for players. I want players to know each other. PC's can be strangers, but I want you to be with at least one person with whom you have played in the past.

I would be aiming for a group of 3-4, so it would be 3 players who know each other, 4 players who know each other, or 2 pairs of 2. You would have to mention the other player(s) in your RTJ and they would have to mention you in theirs. No volunteering people without them knowing.

PC's would start as lvl 0 variant Humans. You would have your base stats and 4+CON hp at start. Once the story progresses and, after a time jump of training montage, would gain your proficiency bonus, skills, feat, ability score adjustments, and whatever else your class would grant you.

Setting would be Forgotten Realms mainly for geography and general tone. No dual-scimitar wielding Drow around every corner.

My expectation would be that while your character might have a cursory knowledge of Lord of the Rings or similar settings, they wouldn't be DnD encyclopedias who know exactly how many hp an orc is supposed to have.

So, in this IC, I am asking who would be interested and if you think that you would have another player or two you would want taking the journey with you.

I love this idea. All my D&D playing friends don't like text games though, so I guess I'm out of luck. I have no problem of creating a PC that shares a history with some other PC, if that would make it possible to join this game.

I'm wondering why you think that the players knowing each other is the only way to ensure that the characters get along?

It's not the only way, I know, but this would be a game less likely to have interchangeable characters when people tend to drop out unexpectedly. I would prefer to have players who are invested in each other as much as the game.

Edit: I'll clarify by saying that preference will be given to players who come in together, but I won't rule out a solo RTJ that makes me believe you're in it for the long haul.

I also love this idea, and I also have the misfortune of not having any gamer friends that PBP.  I haven't even been on RPOL long enough to have grouped with a lot of people here that I could team with.  But if I'm not posting, it's because I'm dead or in jail (and God only knows why either of those would be the case). :-D

I'd be interested in and love this idea! I'm not sure who I know...I'm terrible at remembering names on this site unfortunately. I definitely know the guy above me though!

I'd be interested. I may or may not be coming in solo (have one friend I could ask). I do recognize CaesarCV, Studynot, and Tortuga. Not sure from where but I know I've seen the names before.

I think I've got enough interest to get the ball rolling. I'll leave the link here for a little while before posting in the Players Wanted section.
