IC: All Systems Nominal (Mecha game from Blades in the Dark)
I'm fascinated by All Systems Nominal, a game about pilots of massive mecha fighting a dehumanizing war, Forged in the Dark (inspired by the Blades in the Dark system). It surprisingly tactical yet focused on narrative and drama first rather than physics simulation.

It ties in wonderful and fresh design ideas and themes that remind me of various games and stories I enjoy about the lives of real people amid endless war, such as Night Witches, World of Dungeons: Turbo—Breakers, 3:16 Carnage Among the Stars, Mobile Frame Zero: Firebrands, of course Blades in the Dark, and tropes from stories like Pacific Rim, Gundam, BattleTech, CthulhuTech, even XCOM, or Attack on Titan, etc.).

Check out an illuminating design diary by the creator here:

Would people here want to give something like this a spin? I have no idea how well it would work in pbp, but I know its mechanics would do far better than core Blades in the Dark (which requires lots of negotiating before and after each roll that this game doesn't have). Do people care if it's Public Beta?

Here are the game files: https://drive.google.com/drive...qzD-N5Wx?usp=sharing

Hmmn ... I'm intrigued.  Give me a little time to read over the files and form a fuller opinion.  Thanks for making me aware of the game in either case!

Real Robot meets alien invasion?  Sounds good to me...

Off to eyeball those files as well, but very interested. Generally like the PbtA games and a big fan of mechs (physics and actual military sense be damned!) so I suspect this is going to be a es.

I'd be potentially interested. Not nearly enough systems handle mechs at all so nice to see one centered around it.

Well, Five is something!

One of the odd parts of the beta version at least is that the innovative tactical-narrative combat system relies on having exactly 4 pilots in a unit. With fewer or more, it’d have to instead use standard Blades in the Dark style action-by-action resolution, or fewer players would manage an NPC pilot or 2 to fill out a unit.

I may set up a small-ish test game for just a mission or maybe two, not committing to be something longer term.
