Interest Check: Monster of the Week
Anyone interested?  I have an idea for an organization styled-campaign ala X-Files/MIB/Warehouse 13 leaning towards Supernatural.  I'll warn everyone that I am not a Buffy fan.  I've recently been turned onto PbtA and I'm digging the system.

I've really gotten to like PbtA games- I'd be interested. What sort of agency/organization?

In reply to Smoot (msg # 2):

The organization would be a secret cabinet set up by George Washington back when the country was founded.  Cabinet posts would include the Magus General, Witchfinder General, Exorcist General, Secretary of Paranormal Affairs, Secretary of the Exterior (dealing with extra-dimensional threats) and any other department the characters could come up with.  The characters would be agents of the cabinet, essentially Men in Black crossed with supernatural hunters & wizards.

Ah! That sounds fun.

About how many players were you thinking of?

Sounds interesting. Modern setting or something backdated?

I think I'm going to go with 3-5 players and see who shows up.  I was considering a modern setting, but something set in the 50s or 60s could be fun as well.

Poltergeists in Poodle Skirts... Drag Racing Demons... sock hop Succubus...

The possibilities are endless and the lack of social media and heck phones makes the Darkness all the more intense.

The idea of doing a 50s-60s version would be a lot of fun.

The lack of being able to just use modern communications technology (including internet research) makes it a different sort of challenge, too. :)

Check out Delta Green. Basically it's X-Files meets Call of Cthulhu. Delta Green is a top secret program, blacker than black inside the US government not on any budget working against the Mythos. Players are usually from all sorts of government agencies, work their day jobs, but occasionally get tapped to investigate possible Unnatural events.

If we're recommending things, there was a free thing for Gumshoe where the PCs are the sort of live Tech Support for an agent in the field. :) http://site.pelgranepress.com/...eet_Contest_2015.pdf

More into MotW because it's not Mythos, tbh.

Hmmm, sounds like the 1950's may be in order for a setting.  I'm a huge fan of old B-and-W Atomic Horror B-Movies with giant mutated insects and the like.  I'll have a think and see if I can get something going over the weekend.

Here's what I was thinking, I set it in 1956 since it's the height of Eisenhower's America.  It's also the year Godzilla debuted.

George Washington, being a high level Mason, knew of the Royal Cabal of Wizards kept by the Court of St. James.  When the War for Independence broke out, he recruited experts in the supernatural amongst the colonists to covertly combat the British mages.  Once the war was won, he incorporated the experts into the Concilium Invisium, the Secret Cabinet, as the New World was a sudden refuge for preternatural beings of every ilk from all over the world, much like the nascent population of America.

The Secret Cabinet continued it's fight against the supernatural for a century and a half.  By the outbreak of World War II, the monsters and magic of America, much like the country itself, had been tamed.  Everything changed on the fateful August day when the first atomic bomb was dropped.  The resultant explosion seemed to roil magical energies, emboldening monsters and magecraft across the globe.  To make things worse, in the ensuing years, Science has run amok, and the atom created a whole new breed of monster, mutated from terrestrial creatures exposed to radiation, and a new breed of mad 'wizard', who uses science instead of sorcery.

It is 1956.  The Secret Cabinet is now know as Majestic 12.  Its agents combat the things that go bump in the night, be they gigantic fire-breathing dinosaurs, mad scientists, or good old fashioned vampires, werewolves or witches.

This seems like a fantastic kind of setting for a monster of the week game. I would be highly interested.
