Freeform Games you'd like to see GM'd?

Title sort of says it all: are there any freeform writing games players would like to see run on RPoL? I'm itching to GM a good game and have come up with quite a bit of time on my hands to do so.

If your idea inspires me, perhaps I can help get it started. :)

Two ideas I have were actually former games run by others but never got off the ground. Their concepts were interesting & cool to me...See what you think.

Idea 1 - The Battlestar Galactica & Pegasus (from the 1978 series - not the Reimagined series) lead their refugees from the Colonies and find an uncharted star system. They launch Vipers to recon the system and run into a Federation Starship exploring the system.

Idea 2 - Imagine a world where Disney Villains control the world. There are little to no heroes left but some work in the shadows trying to make the world a better place.

What do you think?

Literally anything that's progression based, meaning your freeform character consistently grows, and is quick paced. I know free form means no rules, but that doesn't mean it can't have structure and meaningful rewards!

I would love to see a freeform game kinda like supernatural in terms of hunter/monster type game but with a more BloodBorne or Dark Souls esque atmosphere, ya know dark, heavy combat, horror, etc. Could be fun.  Especially if combatting some of the creatures involves actually looking into the history of the creature and culture to find out how to deal with them, that could be really interesting, but a lot of work to set up a story for.

Character and weapon creation could be really interesting if there were bloodborne-esque weapons involved, custom weapons & abilities are always fun to work with, supposing they had means of balancing them.

Then again, this comes from a dude who LOVES the darker games and more truly terrifying creatures, horror movies spoiled me.

I enjoy settings that allow for all kinds of player-created races and backgrounds and things, like comics- or anime-inspired supers games, or modern or high fantasy.

In reply to Cubalibre (msg # 2):

Hmmm; I don't think I would be knowledgable enough about Battlestar to run a game like that!

The Disney idea intrigues me, although I'd have to think about it a bit more. I've never been a fan of playing canon characters myself, and I don't know how much I'd enjoy running a game where loads of them are running amok. I'll swim around in this idea a little more and see where my creativity goes.

I feel like you're right on the money with this comment. A great freeform game is always moving and always has loads of fun things happening all at once in order to continually entertain players. I hope I can instill that in my games too. :)

In reply to DeadSlayer54 (msg # 4):

I agree that a story like this would need quite a bit of work to set up. It would probably take more than a single GM to run, especially if we're going to try to keep up with a strong standard and skilled writers. I'll ponder this one a bit more too, since it seems like dark and mysterious-type freeform games are a common denominator for games that go on for a long time around these parts.

In reply to Brosuke (msg # 5):

I considered running an Avatar-inspired game juuust before posting this here, actually. Except...I wanted to try to move away from the original Avatar storyline and create something more fantasy based...but it's been a bit more of a struggle to set up than I thought. Still a possibility though, we'll see how far I get with this idea, and if folks like the idea enough to consider playing in it.

Wow, keep 'em coming! My gears are definitely turning! :D

It would take a lot of setting up, depending on the setting, rules, and game play mechanics, I can do some research on some interesting monsters, weapons/items/artifacts, etc, and help set up the universe.

Yeah, it does take some knowledge of the show to run it properly...

In the game, the characters were not canon characters but unique characters - I actually played a follower of captain Nemo (from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) who broke away from Nemo's crew and became a good guy. Most of the Canon characters are dead or missing which give a player a chance to get the creative juices flowing and make something truly unique.

Transformers. There, I said it. Good vs. Evil. Autobots waging their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. People caught in the middle. Megan Fox in shorts. Well, maybe not Megan Fox in shorts. G1 would probably be more fun and less headache-inducing than the movie-verse.

Baian The Assassin (aka Shigakenin Fujieda Baian)

Accupuncturist by day and assassin by night, Baian-sensei is one of Ikenami Shotaro's most enduring characters, and the subject of a TV series and a mini-series that starred Watanabe Ken in the role of Baian.
