IC: Dystopian Steampunk Setting

Okay so in broad strokes the story/setting is an amalgamation of a couple of books and games.
Those being:
Monster Blood Tattoo Books
Dishonoured
Dragon Age

Basically characters would be members of the Houses, groups who through the use of strange organs gain extraordinary abilities. It is set in a city state that is surrounded by enemies and is being ravaged by a plague. The system would be pathfinder though with some interesting house rules.

Edit: If anyone wants more details I am happy to oblige. I just figured that short and sweet was better.

Dragon Age is basically Dungeons and Dragons. Fighter types, thief types, and mage types. Orks are called genlocks. You get the Idea. Every so often an archdemon comes along and raises a Horde that needs killing. Grey Wardens are the only folks capable of killing the Archdemon.

Dishonored is a bit more complex. I haven't gotten very far into it, but it is interesting. Set in a time around our Industrial Revolution. A former chief bodyguard of the Royal Family and Father to the Princess is framed for the murder of the queen. A forgotten God thing empowers you to restore the balance. And you are left to figure out the howstuff and whys as you go. Do you take out the evil Templar or brand him excommunicate and let his own people take care of him. The darker you behave the darker the game gets. Kill everyone you come across and we'll the plague gets real bad and so do the methods for dealing with things.

I'm intrigued - I'm curious what you have in mind to make it feel dystopian with the emphasis on the steampunk over the more traditional dark ages type fantasy that is Pathfinder.

Definitely interested. Absolutely loved Dishonoured and can't wait to play the sequel.

Count me in, as long as you start use with a few levels to customize the character.

Okay so I'll talk mechanics first. You'll be starting at first level but you are a variant of gestalt characters so you will have a fairly large array of customisation options. I'm also not limiting people to paizo only material so you can get some interesting customisation from the get go. There also isn't any magic, it is all science. There are plenty of strange magic like abilities etc but it is all explained away by science.

For the setting you will be aristocrats of Skalsturm, a large city state, who are part of the various noble houses. Skalsturm and the other city states are being besieged by a species called the Uung though they are colloquially nicknamed Ug's or Raz's by the populace of Skalsturm. This species pushed the regular military back through the use of strange powers that completely destroyed the conventional tactics used by the military. The military was able to take a few Uung bodies back to Skalsturm for autopsy which lead to the discovery of what were effectively weaponised organs, these were then adapted by Skalsturm scientists and implanted into willing subjects. These people found great fame and fortune through various unbelievable exploits, and as such the noble houses jumped on this new trend. Soon after the scientists adapted the Uung organs the Uung poisoned the water supply and a virulent plague began to take hold of the populace of Skalsturm who were soon quarantined into the poor quarters of the city.

Just writing up some classes. Will probably take a day or two as while I have all the ideas down, I need to theorycraft the numbers. They all have negatives attached to them and positives so you'll have to use abilities sparingly(in most cases) as they are the result of the foreign organs. There will still be regular classes too, I just need to get some stuff sorted before I open the game up to the players etc.

Will you be using spheres of power or wordcasting? They might fit better magic-wise.

Also, using the conversion guide on d20 modern classes with a few fluff tweaks may also form a good core to build on to make the creation process easier.

Okay so I have most of the mechanics written up. They aren't particularly fancy or anything and they are really only half classes but they work. I am currently in the process of writing up the setting information and finishing the last class, but I will accept rtjs from now until the 5th of January.
