Most likely 2nd edition, I probably am going to start this out at a lower PL than normal for heroes too.

Do you have any other info about the setting besides just fantasy? Are we talking like D&D future setting or something more akin to Star Wars?

Fantasy M&M

I'm open to suggestions, it might play out similar to a future where humanity has regressed to superpowers and Late Middle Age early Renaissance level tech with scientifically plausible genetically altered creatures from fantasy.
However

That is subject to change as that might be better handled in a separate post apocalyptic M&M game.

Super powered and scientifically plausible are sort of a weird combination right? A five story tall dragon can't fly scientifically but if it has super speed and strength powered wings then who knows right?

Post apocalypse thing is interesting but you are right, it might make a better straight post-superhero-apocalypse setting. It all depends on how fantastic you want your fantasy. Calling out that 'this is earth year 3042 after the aliens took all our copper and silicon' sets a different tone than 'this is the world of Avalon where the land is ruled by the immortal king of light and the countryside is plagued by servants of the dragon beyond the mountain'.

I saw Fantasy and I imagined the second one (straight high fantasy) but i would app to either.

Well I just had a thought about doing series of Fantasy Freedom inspired adventures. Like lifting the Siege of X city, things in that vein

Look at the world of Tekumel as a good example of how this might work.  That milieu is based on a far future relapsed into barbarism after an apocalyptic event which isolates Tekumel and its sun and sister planets from the rest of the universe.  Magic is essentially other-planar force which can be controlled by the technology of the Ancients or by more purely "magickal" means.

The Gawds of Tekumel are other-planar beings whose presence in the world is demonstrable and frequently felt.

Be prepared:  Tekumel is a very rich milieu and can take a long time to get one's head around.  Do some searching on the 'net, and you should find plenty to keep you busy.

Re: Fantasy M&M

Oh, I have an easy time imagining how it might work. I'm sure there are plenty of well thought out and detailed setting using the concept. But I don't see what is really gained over just saying you are in a fantasy world and not needing to convince people that that is what it is.

Re: Fantasy M&M

There's also something like early Phantay Star i.e. Sci-Fi Fantasy. Dungeons, dragons, lasers,  magic and swords.

Re: Fantasy M&M

My personal preference lean much more towards the Exalted side of a setting's tone than the Numenera side, if there's an ancient technological society that collapsed.  A fantasy world largely, with some magitech bits sticking out.  Thundarr the Barbarian never really gripped me as a setting.  Hard post-apocalypse doesn't seem like the best mileau to capture the relatively high power and dynamism of heroic-level M&M characters.

Re: Fantasy M&M

With this many posts in the thread, it should be clear by now whether or not there is sufficient interest in this idea to warrant progressing it to become an actual game.  Please leave all further discussion for that game, created by Rothos1, and linked to in the post immediately following this one.

Thank you.
