IC: Chess variant

I have a variant of chess, played on a hexagonal board of a hex grid.

Unlike the ones I've seen before, this variant has three bishops, one for each color, and thus only seven pawns, and has the starting positions set in a corner instead of along an edge.

The hexagonal board allows three-way free-for-all, or two-on-two teams (or stranger variants for up to six players).

Anyone interested in trying this?

In reply to DarkLightHitomi (msg # 1):

How does chess notation work for that board, and where does one get a set?

I play Jetan, Shatrang, and am trying to learn Shogi.  (FIDE rating 1250, so a rather mediocre player, me).

For this game, I was just planning on using an ascii text board, also, I can see and use an ascii board on my phone.

I honestly have only played privately, so I am not sure how I would rate.

I also am not used to chess notation since I never used it, however, there are a couple different schemes that could be used on a hex board. Which one would be best is a question for those that would use it.

So, is this going to be played on RPoL?

That is the plan.

Though, if we get three players, or two teams of two, rpol will probably be easiest, and I figured these novel possibilities would be the interesting ones to try, but that might just be me.

Re: IC: Chess variant

link to another game

The game, and rules will be posted, as soon as I figure out how to replicate the hex ascii map. C&P from the heaven threads fail.

To reproduce the ASCII hex map in Heaven, just cut and paste whatever you can see in the post and wrap pre tags around it.  :>
