Interest in Pre-history type game?

In reply to odysseasdallas (msg # 5):

There's no reason why a primitive culture couldn't have developed a weapon like that. I'm most familiar with ice age cultures and mega fauna. That sound ok to you?

There's also polynesian sharkteeth swords etc.

You certainly have my interest but I would like to get some more details before committing.  Do you have anything specific you definitely want or are you still in the planning and arranging phase of things?

Still very much in the planning/arranging stage. I've played before in the Clan of the Cave Bear fanfic which is basically Eurasian Ice Age but I'm open to playing in other times/land masses. Suggestions?

The concept of a completely throwback, primitive RP (like hunter/gatherer) is rather intriguing personally.

Hm. Since your last game was Ice Age, how about something in the Neolithic - the very first hunter-gatherer-farmers?

That sounds really interesting! I like that idea. Not only the people getting used to a more stationary lifestyle but also how relationships between the people changed. Love it!

Ok, so, the Neolithic. I've been reading up on it and it's fascinating. Since major discoveries happened thousands of years apart, like agriculture and domestication of animals, we will have to do a squished timeline and make them happen closer together. Do we have any Neolithic experts in the house who might want to help design this game?

You do realize that there's unconfirmed reports of cavemen as late at WWII?   You could also do a "lost tribe" sorta deal in modern day....

Neanderthal pockets were indeed found for sometime after their supposed extinction.  Even today we're still finding evidence of where they were and during what times.

Oh, believe me, I've read all of that stuff and made up tons in my own mind! Lol.

I was thinking earlier today about doing a sort of Lost World type group so we could have whatever we wanted there. I'm more interested in character development and relationships than anything else. Prehistory is just a fascination for me. I think we'll have both Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons as well as more modern humans who've slipped through the crack.

Does anyone remember Land of the Lost, the 70's tv series? It was campy and awesome.

I'm a huge fan of Jean M. Auel's novels and very interested in this game because of it.

That's exactly the kind of thing I want to do! Except for her last book, of course, I've idolized her writing.

The scene in Clan of the Cave Bear where the clan elders are trying to get their heads around Ayla saving the little boy with her sling is something I have read three or four times.

The Clan of the Cave Bear is, by far, her best book, imho. But I loved Valley of Horses, Mammoth Hunters and Plains of Pasage (even though it dragged a little). Shelters of Stone was good but her last book was so awful I am convinced she did not write it. But this is exactly the atmosphere I'd like the game to have. I'm working on the particulars now. :)

I keep thinking silly things like Field & Cave, Better Caves & Gardens...it's so bad. Fire and Stone is better than any I've come up with.

Lol! Save me from puns! Actually, I like puns, even bad ones. *wink, wink*. But I chose the original suggestion of Fire and Stone because, well, that's pretty much what they relied upon. I'm filling in the specifics but I got sidetracked tonight on the lovely and confusing subject of all the different species of Australopithecines, Homos and their cousins. Why didn't I just stick with Cro-Magnon? But nooooo...had to be more specific. And all I got was eye strain and a headache. Going to bed now for a few. I'll probably dream about digs and skulls and scientists arguing. Nite!
