If the tanks succeed, then victory follows.
Hell on Treads is a rules-lite game inspired by movies like
Fury, with the focus of the action on the camaraderie and problem-solving skills of the tank crew. I've had the chance to play this in-person and it leads to a very tense play session as the dice pools start to dwindle down.
I'm interested to see if I can get 4 players to take part in a sort of mini-campaign of sorts, following a M4 Sherman tank crew during the last days of WWII (to play off the inspiration of
Fury) and seeing how the rigors of combat and stress play a toll on the physical and mental well-being of the crew. A mission usually takes ~1.5-2 hours when playing face-to-face so I think that we can manage to play through missions at a fairly average pace. And hopefully some characters can survive to see the war through!
To sum up the game quickly: The GM plays the part of the Commander, the one with the 'tactical' view of the situation. They guide and challenge the tank crew to accomplish missions. Missions are made up of Obstacles that must be overcome, with each member of the crew (Driver, Assistant, Gunner, Loader) offering up their solutions via their specialty and a dice pool formed to hopefully overcome the number of successes needed. This is further played upon with Complications that can hamper the performance of the tank, as well as special Features the tank might have from crew customization.
Owning the rules is not necessary because they are easily summarized in a paragraph or so and I'll readily supply what relevant information is needed, as well as some random generation charts for character/tank creation, inside the game proper.
Stop for nothing!
