In several games I've used text based battle maps and I've seen other folks use them too. They're a pretty good alternative to graphics. To help myself I created an online battle map generator. It's written completely in Javascript and saves the maps to your browser's local storage so that you can modify them later. It generates the maps in RPoL's Easy Table format.
Anyway, I found it very useful and figured I'd put the URL here so that others can use it if they want to.
