(Hentai) Visual Novels Powered By The Apocalypse?
TL;DR- I wrote a PBTA hack where players play characters in visual novels that I need to playtest. It can function as either a slice of life game, or as an adventure game. It will be adult due to potential for violent and/or sexual situations, and the adventure component is completely optional (those who partake willingly risk engaging in unsavory activities with... whatever is on the other side of the dreamscape to keep them from harming the rest of the citizenry).

So back when I was more regular on giantitp there was a game system called Highschool Harem Comedy that was responsible for some of the best RP GMing experiences I ever had (and a couple of the worst). But I saw its potential as pretty much a Visual Novel simulator in a time where visual novels were pretty much my wheelhouse. My only problem was that it only partially simulated what I needed, because I played too many visual novels with a combative/competitive component. Anything from dialogue based fantasy combats, modern day tentacle monster slaughterfests, and so forth.

I'd even go so far as to qualify Persona 4 (and probably others) as a visual novel because it empowers you based on the relationships you have (romantic or otherwise) with human representatives of tarot Arcana which in turn affect the Personas of the same Arcana.

That game (HSHC I mean), stayed on the back of my mind until I found Dungeon World, or more specifically until I found Class Warfare. OP stopped working on the original system and I saw a lot of potential based initially on just what I read out of Class Warfare (and expanding onto other PBTA games for some neat rules like how the world interacts with death and whatnot).

The game I wrote, which I call Visual Novel World, is much like the other game inasmuch as it's about a bunch of girls trying to get noticed by Senpai. That is to say, it's a role reversal from the standard paradigm of a visual novel. Because it is a game about a genre of games that commonly feature Hentai it will be adult.

My story: Some weird stuff happened at Kagemusha's Special K University several years ago, and it's all really very secretive-that there were monsters that were never defeated, only banished to the realm of nightmares. It mostly doesn't affect students, but the solution the last students had was only a temporary fix. Rumor has it the line between dreams and reality in this town is thin and a little pink.

Anyone in? EDIT: For this game, I want it to be bigger than a normal game I would run, because I've found that in Slice of Life games, there's at least one person who plays a character whose CGs I wouldn't bother unlocking. I may need a Co-GM for that if I run into that problem, but we'll cross that bridge when/if we get to it.

(Hentai) Visual Novels Powered By The Apocalypse?
I'd be up for trying this out. I've played around with the idea of making a sort of dating game sim style pbta game but never made it past the brainstorming phase.

(Hentai) Visual Novels Powered By The Apocalypse?
Just a heads up, in the same way Class Warfare and Dungeon World are big, my PDF is also big, but it's under half the size of either. Is that going to be a significant hurdle?

Shouldn't be, you'd just have to give me the time to give it a good once over.

More or less. Pretty much all the PBTA documents have a basic idea of how the game's supposed to run with Basic and Advanced Moves, and all the Playbooks (or in our case, subsets of playbooks you combine 3 of to make a character) have their respective moves that you can pick up whenever you gain what is generally called Advances or advancements (in our case Relationship Levels)

It's probably better for you to be less familiar with PBTA games than it is for you to be less familiar with VNs or (perhaps more often) the anime/manga the characters are usually derived from. I'm the other way around. I can recognize some anime/manga girls but have no idea about their source media because my experience is pretty much all VNs. For example, the character Americans would call Takumi Mukai is my favorite character on Gelbooru... of the ones I can identify on sight anyway.

That may seem pretty much off topic, but it goes to show you that I'll be running a game that isn't tied to any particular canonicity, so it's worth noting.

Fair enough, it's also worth noting that you probably don't need to read the last 40 pages or so since it's a bestiary and the GM section. For this game, I want it to be bigger than a normal game I would run, because I've found that in Slice of Life games, there's at least one person who plays a character whose CGs I wouldn't bother unlocking. I may need a Co-GM for that if I run into that problem, but we'll cross that bridge when/if we get to it.

Also, I'll want a good mix of people who do want to adventure in the Dreamscape, and people who don't. Or at least a good mix of characters who are aware of it and seek it out, and those who aren't and don't. Preferably at least 3 of each, more if possible, but that's pretty idealistic.

Consider me the sixth. If you decide to get this game started, I'd give it a try.

Apologies for delays. I might have it up and running over the weekend, but if I don't have it up by Monday it should be Tuesday.

If you would be fine with someone who would be learning the system anew, then colour me interested too.
(Obviously if there's enough room and all that)

This makes it sound as if yes your allowed to be. Preferably at least 3 of each, more if possible, but that's pretty idealistic. as well as the fact that i am a noob at this too. and she said it was alright

Re: (Hentai) Visual Novels Powered By The Apocalypse?
You're practically guaranteed to be something of a noob with this game as at the very best you have a basis for the system(s) it was formed upon. There are a lot of rules that I would call new, some rules that are not, but are from more obscure hacks, and of course, the otherwise easy to learn system.
