IC: Space opera with Fate Accelerated Edition
Premise: Humanity finds itself caught in the crossfire of an alien war.

The players are crew to a science vessel, primarily a starship that conducted deep space scientific research, that has been repurposed as a long-range exploratory vessel, with the mission of establishing first contact with the alien powers. They have no other choice, for soon the war will be on humanity's very doorstep, and they must pick a side.

Setting: In 2071, humanity devised a method for FTL spaceflight, only to find the worlds outside their own blue Earth already inhabited. Explorers on Mars soon discovered and made first contact with a previously hidden alien civilisation. In the years that followed, these mysterious aliens revealed startling new technologies.

However, this knowledge came with the a terrible revelation. The aliens were refugees from a decades-spanning conflict between two galactic superpowers, and Earth would soon be caught in the crossfire. The tech gap was such that humanity was outclassed and outgunned by both sides. With very little information of either side, except perhaps a litany of atrocities each had racked up over the decades, humanity must find answers and fast.

Notes: Some influences: Star Wars, Star Trek, Mass Effect, Space Battleship Yamato 2199, Honor Harrington, Outsider, The Skolian Empire Saga, and many many more. Though it will begin on the hard end of the scale, don't expect it to stay there.

System: I am more interested in characters and story than in system mechanics. As such, while this game uses Fate Accelerated Edition and some tweaks from the Dresden Files Accelerated ruleset, the fiction will often triumph over mechanics. I will always go the path that makes for a better story.

IC: Space opera with Fate Accelerated Edition
As you can see in the Wanted - GM section, I'm interested in an introduction on Fate Accelerated ruleset.
If you are willing to take on Fate Accelerated absolute beginners (with the patience that beginners always require), I'm interested.

In reply to airellian (msg # 1):

I know nothing about Fate Accelerated save the name, but I'm interested.  This dovetails nicely with a milieu I have been working on for some time now.

If this is going to be more Startrek based, I'd rather not get involved but if it's going to be more Mass Effect I'd love to join up.

I run a game here with a few of the others who have shown interest. I am fully versed in Fate rules and have a pretty good grasp minus any house rules you use from the toolkit.

If I may ask, what exactly are the differences that would prevent you from joining one game and joining up in the other?

Mass Effect is more fantasy, gun running, powers, pirates, etc.

Startrek is boring humans with above average abilities and more influence is placed on what the characters are doing rather than the characters.

So if you plan to allow, alien races (mass effect) or otherwise have something that's more than just humans flying around places, I would likely join.

I'm always down for Fate Accelerated, especially if any form of Space Opera is involved. ^_^

Very interested - time permitting. I've always liked the idea of something like a Mass Effect First Contact era game, about humans exploring and making contacts in an alien universe for the first time.
