Would anyone be interested in testing out the new Legend of the Five Rings 5e beta rules recently released in the open by Fantasy Flight Games? I really like the setting, but haven’t had a chance to play 4e or the earlier versions. I think with 5e’s beta test, this is a good time to jump in. The system is like a blend of L5R 4e and FFG’s Star Wars game.

I've been following the beta forums, and would be interested. Would you be using FFG's setting?

If the system mechanics are anything like the edge of empire game that could be quite a bit of fun, I imagine just the L5R name would get you enough interest to start, having a functional system behind it should help keep it going.

I have not actually played an L5R game since it was done in the 3.0 D20 system a few years back, anything that even tries to use the EotE system will be a significant upgrade from that.

Yea, I’d probably just use their sample adventure in the beta book. The major thing I’m trying to figure out is how to deal with rolling dice, since, like EotE, there are dice with custom faces.

You can probably use a conversion table, as those seem to be regular dices.

If the dice are the same as EoE dice then the RPOL dice roller has a setting for that which you can just make the default for the game, otherwise dice of the same number of faces compared to some chart will have to do the job.

They are similar, but different from what I've read so far.

There is a conversion in the beta rulebook of what results mean what, so I suppose we'd have to make due for now. It is a beta after all, I am sure RPOL will update when the full game comes out (if not sooner, who knows)

It mostly uses (customized) d6 and d12s tho IIRC
