Post Apocalyptic Western
I'd like to run a sort of post-apocalyptic western style game, set after the fall of civilization. Not quite as "kitchen sink" as Deadlands. Scenarios:

1. The Civil War ended when the dead rose, turning the United States into a mass grave of shambling horror. In the East, where the population was more concentrated, hordes grew quickly, but out West settlements are sparse enough that people live on in camps, homesteads, and small towns ruled by Trail Bosses and Ranch Lords competing for scant resources. The game's focus isn't on the walking dead themselves so much as it is on the PCs efforts to get by.

2. It's 21XX, and the world has been devastated by climate change into a freezing/boiling dustbowl. Pockets of humanity remain, eking out what they can, separated by wilderness that's too hot to survive in the summer and too cold for habitation in the winter. The players are a small group of nomads making the trek between isolated communities, those who can pay for the occasional "service" but can't support more mouths to feed, looking for a place to someday call their own.

Options: Mutants? Psychic powers?

3. You were there when it happened. You watched The Hero lose his mind, watched him go berserk, saw him spark the battle that killed the world. You couldn't stop him, and you might only be alive because you didn't try. But there's no denying it; Earth's superhumans destroyed the world they'd sworn to protect. Now you travel the ashes, hiding your powers from the survivors who would rightfully hate you for what you are, trying to make amends to the souls of the billions who perished.

Sort of a Kingdom Come/Irredeemable/Incorruptible superhero apocalypse with a twist from Paranoia - they have minor powers that it's a tremendous risk to ever actually use. Or you might be someone like Batman who doesn't have powers and is safe as long as he doesn't reveal who he used to be.

System Options: Fate, Apocalypse World, or a hack thereof. World or Chronicles of Darkness or whatever. Maybe AFMBE for #1.

Love to hear the thoughts of someone who might be interested in playing.

I'm interested! I would say 2 or 3 would be my preferred options. I think the involvement of lost technology or superpowers would add an interesting element

I'd go for Fate version of the choice number two, really. One thing that comes in mind is Winter World comic style world.

Am I the only person who loves 1 and think the other options are just 'meh'?

I, also, like the first option. I would be willing to play as long as the system was one I knew or could be taught.

My second choice would be for the second option as long as the idea for mutants didn't have X-Men style powers.
I would prefer the mutants be more grotesque versions of normal creatures then super powered individuals.

That being said, I would still rather play the first idea.

Yeah, idea 2 would be more Hills Have Eyes than X-Men.

I like 1, if only for the fact you could have a party consisting of both Confederate and Union soldiers, putting aside their war (which is still technically going on) to keep the dead from eating them. It would be an uneasy peace, that's for sure.
