Scion game concept- centered on eastern pantheons IC

I am considering running a scion game, but I feel like the eastern pantheons are often overlooked and under used.  If like to play a game a bit more centered in those, particularly China, Japan, and India.

What I haven't decided is if I should limit the players to only those pantheon, or if it would work with the other pantheon available.

Interested in hearing interest, and opinions.

I would be quite interested in such a game. There are many possible settings to make such a game feasible; the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Opium Wars, the Bakumatsu, etc. Set in contemporary times it could simply be a combined effort by the Eastern Pantheons to fight the Titans in their corner of the world.

As for other Pantheons, I would severely restrict them. Perhaps the Middle Eastern and African Pantheons like the Egyptians and Persians might have one representative, the Western Pantheons another. The Eastern Pantheons should be the vast majority of PCs or you would just be playing a standard Scion chronicle instead.

I would definitely be interested in such a concept. Scion's an awesome concept in the first place, and eastern mythology is fascinating.

well, it would be a modern game, not a historical game.

I disagree that it would be a 'normal' scion game if it has non-eastern scions.  If the entire story arc revolves around the mythologies of Japan, China, and maybe the Hindu pantheon, it is still going to have a distinct feel and flavor over the normal widespread games.

but I agree, the eastern pantheons need to be represented, which is sort of my problem.  I am afraid a game where players can only be from those three pantheons may get a little stale, since the players will be so similar.  But on the other hand, with my luck I'd end up with 3 norsemen, 2 greeks, and an Egyptian if I opened it up to all pantheons.  unfortunately, on rpol, it is rarely a luxury for gms to pick and choose exactly what people apply to be.

so I'm trying to figure out a way to get the right balance.

I'd definitely be interested in playing an Eastern centered game, and would gladly play from one of those pantheons.

Well the Eastern Pantheons are pretty big so it would not be as bad. One solution I can propose is that all characters must have some sort of connection to the Eastern pantheons, and preferably be culturally Eastern.

For example, a Norse character might be Chinese and adopted by the Norse as a sort of "exchange program" or perhaps just one of many Scions from the Celestial Bureaucracy's various minor gods that impressed the Norse enough to be adopted. They could be Caucasians living in the old colonies like Hong Kong or Singapore. Alternatively they might be married or engaged to a member of the Eastern Pantheons, easily done since India, China and Japan all practice arranged marriages.

Personally I think that approximately 50-75% of the PCs should be from the Eastern Pantheons so that players know that if you choose something else, there will be a highly reduced chance your character will be chosen.

Count another interested, also as an aside, with the diversity just among gods within each pantheon, and the fact that players really don't need to "match" their parents, it could be feasible to limit the choice of gods to Eastern pantheons. But then as the guy with the concept, dealers choice, interested either way!

Also helps as I think familiarity with those myths is much less common and means players will be that much more surprised with any twists and turns.

that's not really how adoption in scion works, but I didn't make the thread to get technical.  Just wanted to see how much interest there was, and how much interest there was in being an eastern pantheon character specifically.

as for numbers, again, it's not really feasible on rpol to set specifics like that.  I've had games before where I had 9 applicants, and 5 of the nine all asked to be the exact same concept, while no one attempted to be other big concepts that fit the game well.  So it's hard to say, if I put out specific restrictions like that, just what I'd end up with.

I do think eliminating the other pantheons completely will make characters a bit more similar, even with the diversity.  You lose access to the other pantheon specific purviews, and very often people applying to be from the same pantheon value the same things.  So it is an automatic narrowing of the pool of possible players.

but this level of interest seems to show it is likely feasible.  Now I just need to decide if I am definitely going to do it, and if so, how I want to start it.

Very interested! I've only played Scion once before, and played an Indian character that I had a -lot- of fun with!

A Scion game that actually deals with any pantheon would be a nice twist.  The vast majority of them start at the entry level and never get past mooks at best, do you plan to start at or at least near the Demi-God level so we can actually interact with the pantheons?
