Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

The apologize and take you to be tested, and tested, and tested. They take a good deal of blood, skin scrapings, and you spend hours in the same machine as it scans you over and over with various tools.

They give you some time to rest but the whole situation is rather uneasing, thankfully nothing too eventful happens during the battery of tests.

It is when you are waiting on test results and having you run some programs to study how you affect reality. While trying to exsort your will with out a program active (no foci and fast cast) fractures form in your right arm as light shines out of them for a second... the fractures quickly spread and there is a rather large explosion. The devices in the room seam to soak up most of the blast but your arm is in a good deal of pain.

To make matters worse it seams to be made up of several fragments of corrupt data and.... well fire, a good deal of fire crackling between the shifting bits and geoids. It looks rather like a hand half 1/3 the way through being dissolved/digitized away engulfed in flames that don't seam to be burning anything or producing any heat.

Caleb takes 3 aggrevated damage out of 5 (2 soaked by the safety systems) off a 8 point backlash (7 and one from botch)....  paradox level drops by 5. Major temporary echo affect from backlash

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

Caleb didn't realize at first, what the source of the screaming was.  It sounded familiar to him, but it wasn't nearly as meaningful in his mind as the mind numbing pain, that flowed through is arm.

He pulled the burning appendage in, and wrapped himself around it, and it was then that he realized that it was his own mouth that emitted the soul chilling peel.

He glanced up at the doctor, tears streaming down his face, and formed some of the scream into words.

"MAKE IT STOP!!!"

The nurse freaked out a little while the doctor though quickly getting a shot ready and moving in to give you a shot in the arm. It takes a second but soon the pain is gone. "Just breath... breath... it's going to be ok."

"What do you MEAN I'm gonna be 'OK'?  My -ARM- just blew up!!" He was about to continue his angry tirade when the pain vanished, instead his eyebrows arched and he flexed the still glowing appendage, testing it. "Say... that's not -bad-..."

He seams a little more consearned than you are. "Please lets move into the other room and try and patch your arm up...... that was more serious than we thought, if that had happened anywhere else it could have killed you. The equipment here reduced the resolution of the paradox considerably."

"Yeah, but -why- did it happen, doc?  I haven't thought that I was performing any particularly vulgar, or frequent workings.   Not in the past 15 days, anyway...  why would I have so much Paradox ready to lash out?"

As he speaks he's still focused on the glowing appendage.

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

They move your hand into a machine and hook up the bits of it still there to an IV among other things. They start to repair the damage making your arm feel better and move correctly, however it still looks much the same. "Well from our first test it looks like you got trapped between various dimensions, and parts of you still are at that..."

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

"We arn't even sure where they are. However your brain seams to be resting it's self so to say. Your mind and body are like the fragmented hard drive of a computer, and it's being put back together. A lot of the fragmentation and glitches just condensed down onto your arm in the backlash of that paradox. The arm is fine the appearance, is a little hard to explain but it will return to normal in a week or so as your underlying pastern reasserts itself." The nurse chimes in "It's not so bad I know some one who's hair turned into grass."

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

There was a lot of things that Cal didn't understand.  This place that he found himself... often people though of things as odd and strange around him, and he simply did not know enough about the worlds to know when something was strange.   But what this doctor just explained... the fragmenting of storage space, and the processor resting and running some method for restoring it.  He -knew- this... understood it as women tended to innately understand child birth.  Ironically it was for the very same reason.  It was part of who he was.

"Another pattern?" he looked around trying to see what the doctor was studying as he spoke "Any preliminary ideas of what it is?  Any chance I can have a look at the pattern... I may have a program I can run..."

Caleb stopped himself mid sentence. 'Are you insane? You just suffered a paradox backlash!!!' his inner dialog screamed at him.  He shook his head.

"On second thought, maybe I should let -you- handle that... I should let the magics rest for a bit.." he nodded and smiled to the doctor. "your help is... and will be most appreciated."

((lol.  My arm just blew up, I took 3 agg damage.  ROTFL Yep, not all luck is good luck.  I look forward to seeing how this comes together.))

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

The doctor puts on what your subconscious would recognize as a power glove... though a much more sleek one. He activates the halo interface and works with it a minute before putting a hand on your chest. The MESH activates glowing some before reconstructing ... a gun... though a very very old looking gun at that.

It looks like a HEAVILY modified version of an old old blunderbuss flintlock pistol, it has valves, gauges, tubes, and canisters attached to it making up a rather odd looking device. Some sorta steam/clockwork flintlock made to do god knows what. There ten glass tubes with metal reinforcement around them sticking up out of the gun, and four of them seam to be full of some sorta black tar that bubbles and churns, a storm of energy arching through it filling the four tubes they are in actually causing a small amount of purple steam to come out of the guns vents. The gauges swing wildly back and forth, often going into the red zones.

The doctor takes a step back and starts scanning the gun with his glove.

Shitty sketch I made:

some other ideas of what it looks kinda like

Will note it's not a ray gun =p

it's got a barrel for firing something out of it.

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

and the lucky rolls don't stop..... three diff 9 rolls with 1, 2, and 2 successes.... x.x

Looking over the gun himself, Caleb figures out the gun is functional, is charged using various energies from the user, and currently by the reactions with quintessence he's sensing causing as it's pushed away from the gun it seams it's charged with paradox of all things.... some how.... how it's able to work like that is quite the question. However it seams the 'paradox ammo' is exstreamly unstable. The gun is using some sorta emergency ventilation system to vent some of the paradox every now and again.

(and another nice roll)

Slowly the gun seams to stabilize some, the needles still sway but not as much and not into the red (but still quite near it).

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

Caleb watches as the doctor holds the gun up, in the gloved hand.  And suddenly, the world seems to shift to the left in his vision for a moment... then... skull splitting pain.

Caleb's body tenses as the pain rockets from behind his eyes, forming images, impressions on his fore and aff brains.  Synapses fire across bridges not before used, and the pain seems unbearable for about 2 seconds.

Then, Calebs eyes open.

"Right then..." The voice that erupts is Calebs, though the accent and general timber is... completely different."if dem headaches don' stop soon, I'm gonna need a transplan, I am... Blighme, wha 'append ta me voice?"

He looks around confusedly for a mirror, but sees the gun again.

"Oy... das 'Sadie'... she's me gun... I remember dat now..."

He moves to rise, but realizes hes still strapped to the table and the medical apparatus.

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

He shakes his head "I should take this and have the energy in it drained, besides they try and keep firearms restricted on this station so when I bring it back... store it again and keep it that way until you leave ok? I won't put this on file... it's not like you knew you smuggled a gun on board, not all anchorites would see it that way though." He nods to the nurse "You can talk to the nurse about getting you set up here and money while I take care of things and your arm heals."

She takes out a pad and nods some as the doctor heads off with the weapon. "Lets see normally medical care systems would take care of most of the cost here but you well don't technically exist anymore by any authorities, listed as one of the many missing during the 5th fall. Thankfully for you we can open an account for you and you can pay us back at your leisure... we will also help you with setting up your ID, getting you citizenship, some work and some money to start you out with....." She puts a small rectangular object with with some connectors into the computer enters some keys and then removes it again handing it over. "Here this is 10,000 credits that should be more than enough to get you anything trivial you might need before you can make some money of your own."

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

As the doctor took the weapon, Caleb scanned it's pattern, learning it again.  If the doctor tried to pawn it off for another weapon, he'd know it, and the doctor
man would pay.

He spent a long time watching the doctor leave.  When the nurse returned with the credit card, he took it graciously.  And then looked back at the exit the doctor walked through.

'MESH Activate...' he subvocalized the command, and watched as the tale tell green tint came over everything.  It's passive view was on, and it awaited his commands.'run rss.  Follow the doctor, channel feed to left eye, Opacity 60%

That said, the command run he closed his right eye, to keep from confusing his senses.

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

The program ran though the display in your eye completes and your vision re-august leaving an outline of the doctor and the gun. You can see him moving into another room and setting the gun down, moving near it, to do some sorta work on a computer.

The Nurse went on. "The least we can charge with the amount of test we ran is 150 kilocreds, and that and the work we have done and will be doing.... everything else will be covered. I would suggest for now staying at ether the Akashic Brotherhood's temple, or the Celestial Chorus' church. They will provide you with food and board with as little as some cleaning or some charity work. With all the chaos going around here I am sure we can get you some dock work so you can pay off your debts with in a month or so while we work to find you a more suitable job and help you get your memories back."

Re: CHAPTER 1: Caleb Worth

She chuckles some "They are actually a lot more lied back than that. They are ... 'enthusiastic' about spreading there word though. But they won't force anything on anyone that dose not want it. They just beleave that all religions lead back to the same creator, and an underling voice a song that ties all things together. They still search for her song but the songs they have really touch the soul" She sakes her head some realizing she's gotten off track. "Well I will get to work getting you a temporary ID."

You are left alone a few minutes before the doctor returns with a data pad. a few of the smaller kind that are pulled open with a rolled up plastic screen, and your gun. The gun is drained of all it's power now and the needles still on the lowest parts of the gauges. "Ok here you should store your gun, this has some information on your temporary ID and the things you will have to do to establish citizenship. These you pull open all the way, and press this button to close, they have various information that might spark some memories. But I suggest for now you just get some rest and worry about all this in the morning, it's been a long day for all of us hasn't it?"

'Kill Rss Routine...' he subvocalized, letting his vision return to 'normal'. He then looked up at the doctor, and smiled, taking the proffered items, and offering a hand to shake.

"'ell mista saw-bones... looks like I be owein ye somethin in de way of an apology... Was n' sure I could trust ye ta bring, ol 'Sadie' back ta me in one piece... Yer a good man... I 'preciate tha..."

With that said, he sorted all he was given, and placed it in a ubiquitous carry all bag that seem to be present in clinics and hospitals.

<darkgreen>'Wait... do I know him...? No... no it's not that... its...  Oh my, another freaking flashback...'</darkblue>  He moved to public bench, and took a seat, pressing his palm against his forehead.. and waited for the pain.

A pain that never came.
