Re: level 6 spheres, and level 5 house rules
Will add though that crossing the gap between spheres and arch spheres takes more than just learning them.... in a way it's harder than raising ones arete and will require one on one RP with me.
There also sacrifices to making that jump... there a few paths to arch spheres but they all... change you....
Things that affect everyone with arch spheres:
Resonance... the sure power of there resonance starts to have some some real affects around them... even when they arn't using magic
Paradox.. all Arch spheres create paradox no matter how subtle
Crossing the gauntlet gets hard... especially the soul storm around earth... even if not out of phase with earth the archmages power cutting away from his avatar.
Archmages lose there path to the ascention quite often... many become so lost in there ways that there vast power was earned at the price that they will never be able to ascend this life time at all.
The ways to arch spheres:
archmage
This takes years and years of study, but through grate practice of there mastered spheres one can over time reach a new level of understanding and acquire archspheres. However the more one focuses into one sphere the harder it becomes to learn others.
Exemplars
This is the fall from assention, to be lost in ones quest for power. One who is so focused on his sphere the he becomes his sphere and it becomes him. An exemplar becomes a part of his chosen sphere as his focus on it grows... a link to the shard realm of the sphere opening into him and he is able to draw near unlimited power from it... in the shard realm he is like onto a god. The sphere comes so easy to him now flowing froth from the knowledge in the realm (4xcurent level in exp and no longer limited by arete). However he forsakes humanity, his own humanity, slowly becoming a spirit... slowly losing the ability to understand humanity at all. He also loses all ability for his avatar to grow and the knowlages of other spheres are lost to him (other spheres and arete can't be raised) and the energies others often rely on are to unfocused to be chaneled by him. (any raw quintessence or tass of the wrong resonances can't be used anymore... they can only use resonance related to there sphere and draw power through there link to the shard realm). In the end an eximplar becomes so apart of there sphere that they are no longer themselves even.... all there motives dedicated by there forces, they are a spirit of that force and it's avatar. At this point there only hope of returning to humanity and the path to asension, or even the human experience, is there next life... if they ever see one (as they may stay an exemplar forever).
Godhood
While the eximplars are there sphere... the gods are there role. They fill a nitch, a place in the universe that people make for them that they an identify and understand. How one becomes a god is not really understood, but it is possible if one takes on the role that they may eventually become that role.
In the end godhood is a trap in a sense... Sure you get lots and lots of power, but you can't ascend, and then with the powers ther is the infinite desires that shackle the gods to the meteral world keping them from moving beyond the illusionary world to the sublime realms of detachment... They constantly want something and, though there power lets them satisfy these creavings, it's never enugh. How dose it feel to be empty all the time, to have the universe within your grasp but never surpas it? Yes... differently a trap.... but thankfully even gods die.
Oracles
The are the mages that made it... or nearly did. They reached there final seeking and steeped into the beyond.... then.... they stepped back form it. Rather because they still had things to do, or chose to stay and guide others to what they have reached. They have found all the understanding of ascension, but chose to tie themselves to this realm. Oracles find it easy to expand then into the arch spheres having seen beyond them.
So that leaves two short cuts that lead to dead ends in the long run... the hard gulling path that can lead to losings there way.... or getting an arete of 10 first....
For game sakes players will likely find there way with study to archmagedom or become a minor oracle
Those that become exemplars risk losing there chars as NPCs in the long run...
And becoming an god isn't easy lol
