CHAPTER 2 - Hell on Ear-... er... Mars.
While Olympus is quite the city in the shelter of the volcano's large crater with
high walls way above the sand storms bellow, a lovely green paradise that reminds
people of earth.
Hades is deep underground, sweltering hot, full of large open caverns and cramped
dark passages full of steam. It really earns it's name, the deeper tunnels and
cramped of halls are full of the lowest of the planets low life. But the city is
huge, one of the largest cities in the system, and the low lives tend to stick to
the more labyrinthine of the tunnels. The major tunnels are about as safe as
another city, well... at least from scum, the steam pipes everywhere and the many
industrial zones create lots of hazard earea.
The main sorce of power to the city above and many of the cities around the
mountain, as well as taking care of most of the industrial needs of the planet, the
city is full of power plants, mills, factories, and the like with steam pipes,
power lines, and rails shipping boxes all over the city. OH, and people.... lots
and lots of people, mostly workers and traders... less than a 1/4th of the people
in Hades live there full time. There are underground transports going all over the
city, underground to other cities in the area, and up to Olympus above.
However it dose cost quite a bit to ride anything up but rather slow lifts. (they
want to keep the dirty workers out of there nice pleasant city of course)
The city is sectioned off into four zones marked with colors.
Green - Safe areas that short of a serious industrial accident nothing should harm
you. Suggested for people not use to the city. (note there aren't many and green
paths tend to be convoluted and out of the way when others would be faster)
Yellow - These are areas where there is the preasence of danger. Near steam pippes,
near high voltage wires, near moving crates or where crates are moved over head....
stuff like that.... a good 1/2~1/3 of the city in yellow zones.
Yellow and Red - These are work zones, they should not be entered unless you work
in that area and are properly prepared.
solid red - extremely hazardous even to the people working there. Special
protective equipment is required to enter.
People usually call the last two as just red and deep red.
