Re: OOC talk
Hi one and all, just wanted to apologize for my recent absence and explain about it a bit;
So I had a history of laptops dying on me, they'd last about a year and that was it. I figured it was because I always bought cheaper refurbished ones, so back in Jan. of this year I decided to put out a lot of money on a brand new, name brand, fancy one. It was worse than any cheap one I've had to date...
So I get it, turn the thing on, it starts updating, and all's going good until it updates the BIOS and then it flashes some error too fast for me to read. I try to figure out what the problem is, but everything I check says all is good. But from then on, it crashes about once a day, sometimes twice. I look up the info from the reason given on the blue screen, try what's suggested to no effect, and then it gives me another reason the next time it goes down that as far as I can tell has nothing to do with the last message.
I keep trying to fix it, having no luck. It's an HP so I tried their website, only instead of a phone number or chat option they just link you to a do it yourself page. I go there and start searching for a description that matches my problem, and downloading drivers offered hoping to fix it finally. Interesting side note, most of the drivers I get off an actual HP site my compture tells me are older than what I already have.
Instead of getting better, my laptop starts crashing every several minutes. I tried watching a video and have five crashes in one half hour of the film. Then it loaded up really slowly and nothing on the screen worked when I clicked it, so I did a hard reboot only to have it tell me there was no hard drive. Then the computer siad there was one but there was a problem, and then there wasn't one again.
So I asked someone to go to the main HP site and get me the name of a place nearby I could take it, that would respect my warranty and charge HP instead of me. They found me a place, I went there July 3rd, and the woman at the front desk told me they only worked on business computers. Thankfully she felt sorry for me and went into the back to try and find me a number to call, then family matters prevented me from getting in touch with someone until yesterday. They had me do stuff to prove to them it was broken and finally agreed to send me a box, but are sending it to the wrong address. I told them this, but they said I'll have to wait two days and then tell them I didn't get it, because until then they already have an open trouble ticket with my name on it and it can't be changed. But if I don't get the box in the two days they give for them to reach their destination, then they can open a new trouble ticket and copy all my information while entering a new address.
So tomorrow is the earliest I can call and tell them I didn't get the box, then sit on the phone with them for probably an hour reconfirming all the other information if I don't get someone who can speak English better than the last guy. Then two more days for the second box to get to me, and probably a day or two to get the laptop packed up, forms filled out, then get it all to the post office. After that, I have no idea how long it'll take for them to get to it, fix the hard drive, then check it out to figure out why it kept crashing and fix that too.
So until then I'll sneak online whenever I can, but I won't have a solid, permanent means until my computer comes back. Thought I should let everyone know.:)
