Starting Point

  Space Station Freedom:

The captured Robotech Factory was found abandon and lifeless by the UEEF in the late 2020’s near an asteroid belt. It was quickly revived and used as a resupply garrison for the fleet. The twenty mile wide center was modified, the upper half was turned into a small city that houses a near two hundred thousand population of civilians and military personnel. While the Military maintain over all authority over the day to day operations, a civilian government over sees the population center and the non-military work forces.  There are several nice size parks but the six flags theme park is the pride of them all. It has twenty three roller coasters alone and almost ever rides imaginable in it, including a water park in the level above with thirty different rides and slides. The Zoo is the largest in the entire fleet, it houses almost every species of animal that survived the rain of death. it has three levels dedicated to the various habitats. There is a energy field that surrounds the entire zoo and all entry points, giving off a slight hum.
It is a hot spot for UEEF troops to visit for some R&R, hotels and restaurants cater to their every need while giving them a break from the fighting and cramped living conditions of ship life.
The five one mile factory Pods are used to build and maintain the vessels of the UEEF. It is also the primary building facility of the Chimera class Super Dimensional medium Cruiser. The shipyards are busy with completing the heavy order of theses vessel and the Garfish escorts. There are several Mecha factories in the center portion of the Space station working to build the various mecha units for the fleet needs.

As the shuttles land you are sent to pod 1 where your fleet and commanders are stationed. Even if you are gonna be assigned another vessel besides the Gambit. they have temporary offices with a desk and several chairs with computers. otherwise they are bare.

Veritech pilots are sent to see Lt. Commander John Smith
Ground Units are sent to see Lieutenant Colonel William Thatcher
Medical staff are to report to Commander, Becky Kraft
Ship Personnel are to report to 1st Lt. Kendra Shaw
Special Operations are to report to Commander Max Rockatansky

Re: Starting Point

Each of you take a few minutes to reflect on your lives as you stare out the observation windows of the Garfish transport shuttling you from the your previous assignments to the Robotech Factory known as Space Station Freedom. Your choices and actions that brought you here bounce around your minds in anticipation of things to come.

Your orders to report to your commanders aboard the Gambit on pod one tucked safely with your gear. The Last two weeks of travel down to waiting for clearance to dock.  The trip was uneventful with nothing to really do once you are stowed away. The daily muster calls set the routine and galley and small rec hall provide the only place outside your dorms to socialize. And the small observation deck which to stare out at the stars.

There are several Alien from the Sentinel Alliance aboard the shuttle, A female Garudan  or Vulpine and three males wander the ship wearing their breather masks. A single pinkish female Spherian, standout from the Crowds. A dozen Praxians female Amazons constantly boast of their superior martial skills  to any who listens. The two dozen or so Bear People known as Carbonarite talk about how they are being assigned to the shipyards. The Zentraedi and Tirolian’s aboard buzz with excitement in the upcoming battle to free earth.

Its the teenagers running around the ship which drives most of the adults insane, non of them anwsered questions of why they were there other to say they were to report to the UES Nerv To Captain Misato Katsuragi.

All in all it’s a boring trip for each of you. Which you are glad to be over.

When the Transport Garfish docks its in Pod two. ten Seater open top Electric personnel transport vehicles take you from Pod two through the the city level of the central hull of the space station to pod one and to the rows of vessels which comprise the Gambits Fleet. Lines of people are being guided by several persons who point each person to the appropriate lines.

There is a secretary in front of twenty cubical offices which comprise the offices of the fleet coordinators. This is where you will find your officer to report to.

Michelle stares out at the stars most of the trip to Space Station Freedom from the planet Eden when not in her bunk. She was secretly excited, her orders were to report to some commander on the Gambit and not with the other Teenagers of the Doctors.

she sat alone most the time trying to avoid the others as much as she could even at meal times. When they would gather round her she ate in silence.

She smiled when she finally gets her gear which is a small duffel bag. and sees the lines of people gathering around the transports. She waits her turn quietly.

Her hips sway as she makes her way down the ramp to the deck taking in the view in wonder. it was different then being on a human occupied planet. "Wow you have to hand it to the humans for their ability to reuse things they find with such ingenuity." she says absentmindedly to no one in particular.

She smiles to the other Garudans as they all gather about waiting thier turn for the transports. She idly chats with any who approaches her.

Re: Starting Point

Until now Cerise had not had the opportunity to be stationed somewhere with a large civilian population; even her garrison duty was spent at an outpost out in the middle of nowhere. This was going to give her so much opportunity to meet so many different people. Even here, on the shuttle, there was such a huge mixing pot; Garudan (or were the Vulpine?), Praxians (like the mythical Amazonians from Earth's Greek legends), Carbonarites (they really do look an awful lot like Earth's bears), Zentraedi (though they were very common in the UEEF's military, compared to the other non-humans), and Tirolians (the Robotech masters... sort of). She was so exited with this opportunity she had a little trouble deciding who to talk to first. Ultimately she figured that an order approach was her best bet; start with those closest and make her way through as many as she could before the ship docked.
So she started talking to everyone. Cerise couldn't help but come off a bit air headed; she was just so giddy, that it was difficult to maintain complete composure. So she talked to each person, and asked questions. Sometimes they were normal small-talk questions; "How are you today?", "Have you ever been to Space Station Freedom?", but, then, occasionally she forgets herself and the questions were the awkward sorts of questions that only a living rock would ask; "What does it feel like when your outermost layer peels away slowly over time?"

Doshi disembarks from this, ... hopefully last shuttle ride. "Stupid place is just to huge, no wonder no one misses home anymore." .... looking around at so many young faces "Shit it's infested too, ..." As he looks over at the alien life that's 'JOINED' the fight.

"God I hate my parents, .... of all the places to be stationed I think I rather be in the front again. At least I got to kill of few of these things." Not looking ahead of himself be bumps a back of a Bear Person, "Ahh Ya, excuse me big fella, ...." Doshi steps to the side, kind a rude like and continues walking following trying to follow the signs to Special Operations.

Walking up to a stranger, .... and noticing what looks like a nice quite girl (Michelle Grey), ....."Hey, Lt. Sorry to bother you but do you know where the line is at for Special Operations, ... this place is just too big to get the hang of and I kind a lost my way, ... ?"

Re: Starting Point

Miriana ignored virtually all attempts to socialize with the others, only straying out of the dorms to eat in the galley and barely being seen in the rec room. Her appearance helped drive off most of the adults that saw her as one of the teenagers annoyingly running around the ship which was a blessing, but on the other side she seemed to attract attention from said teenagers as well, and every meal there was always someone trying to socialize with her or failing to impress her with some pathetic little trick. While that generally did not last longer than a day or two she did end up with somewhat of a reputation and there was no shortage of teenaged boys trying to make a pass at her on a wager of being the hottest kid around. How... human.

She almost couldn't wait until they'd be old enough to enroll in boot camp. At this point she'd almost pay credits to witness that.

The trip to Freedom was at the very least a bit more eventful. She sat near a window for it, getting a good look at the Gambit's fleet she knew the route would take them past purely as a means to impress them with the grandeur of their latest assignment despite most of them being mere Garfish-class vessels. So utterly human.

Once arrived, she wasted little time in heading directly to Commander Rockatansky's office, straight past rows of people that were assigned to more expendable stations, and knocked firmly and clearly, her assignment form in hand as she waited to be called in.

Epiphany walks toward the pod, her mind drifting a bit, she had considered not reupping this last time.  Catching sight of her reflection causes her to remember why.  She had never been model beautiful, looking at the scars on the side of her face she had decided she wasn't that bad.  At 26 she had already seen a massive amount of combat, "Even got a freaking medal to go with it." she mutters as she reaches the end of the walkway.  "Keita, Epiphany, reporting for duty sir." she says, saluting crisply.  She often pretended she wasn't a lifer, truth was since her life was already fragged she didn't see any reason to leave the life, "As long as I'm fighting that means some other poor schmuck doesn't have to." she thinks as she gets in the pod.  She sits down and pulls out the picture of Sundiata, "I do worry about you though buddy." she says as she stares at the picture then puts it away and leans back, closing her eyes.

Re: Starting Point

Matt spends his time on the shuttle looking out into the vast darkness of space. Being a colony kid, he'd never left the soil of his home planet. While he was at first apprehensive about being in the confines of the shuttle, then in the confines of the larger Garfish transport, Matt is quickly able to adjust to his new surroundings, which leads him to long hours of staring out any available window.

He also spends time trying not to stare at the other alien races that he sees. He'd been fairly sheltered, growing up at the New Edwards base on Eden, and any alien beings on the planet were exceedingly rare. Her mostly only heard of these beings, or seen their pictures in text books. Where some people might be overwhelmed by this mass flood of new experiences, Matt keeps his head level and mostly keeps to himself.

When they arrive at their final destination, Matt cues up in line to speak to Commander Rockatansky, shaking his head slightly as to why a wrench jockey would need to report directly to the special ops commander, especially a wrench jockey straight out of boot.

He quietly mutters, almost sarcastically, as he stands in the line up, "So, apparently being able to fix stuff equals spec ops material."

Re: Starting Point

Cerise gets so caught up talking to a 6 year old human boy that she nearly forgets that she's supposed to report in, but then she sees all these recruits and young personnel heading places with some obvious objective in mind and it brings her orders to her mind. She curtly tells the little boy (who was in mid sentence) "Thank you for taking the time to talk to me, Billy. I hope to see you around sometime." Then she turns and spots a terminal; she uses the terminal to locate Commander Rockatansky's office, and heads straight there.
Seeing a line formed at the door she smiles and figures she'll be last in line... the fun way, and starts talking to the other new transfers. She starts at the end of the line and works her way forward.
"Hello there, Technical Specialist Patterson. How was your trip here? I see you are in line to see Commander Rockatansky as well; perhaps we will be working together."

Watching from his seat on the transport he shifts nervously as he steps off the 10 seater.  Years of hard work and training and it has all come to this moment.

Staring out at the lines peoples he takes a moment to look at his orders once more.  Having already committed them to memory, out of habit he unfolds them one more time to confirm that he will be reporting to Special Operations Commander Max Rockatansky.

Folding the orders once more and shouldering his dufflebag he looks for the nearest person directing the new arrivals.  With a determined look and confidence in his step he approaches them stopping abruptly with a quick salute while holding out his orders.

"2nd lieutenant Kaarle Cherkovski reporting for duty"

As the coordinator looks over the paperwork they motion towards one of the lines.  They hand back the paperwork and with another salute he walks off towards his assignment.

It isn't long before his heart begins to sink into his stomach as he sees the other people in line.  Clenching the strap to his bag he sets his jaw and follows in step at the end of the line.

"It was a pretty quiet trip ma'am," Matt speaks with a slight twang in his voice that might differentiate himself from other humans this Spherian may have met. "I mostly just stared out into the void the whole way here. First time I've ever left Eden. I hope your trip was just as quiet." He finishes with a smile. He was trying to keep himself from staring at her like a simpleton, but he couldn't help it, he'd never met a Spherian before, and now he was speaking with one.

"I suppose if you fly or drive one of the mecha on our ship, we'll see a lot of each other." He smiles with an unbound pride, "I'll be one of the many helping to keep them in good shape and in the fight."

Matt clears his throat, as if trying to clear his pride from his mind and voice, "So what is it that you do ma'am? Where are you from?"

He chances a quick glance back to the line to see if the cue had moved at all before quickly turning his attention back to the Spherian, awaiting her response.

"My trip wasn't quite so quiet, but that is my own fault. You see, I'm a xenoculturist, so I'm constantly trying to learn from people of other culture, which usually means talking to them a lot. It is very interesting, at least to me. I do drive a silverback, so if you will be helping to work on those, I guess that is where I'll see you. As for where I'm from; I'm from Spheria, of course. It is quite rare for my kind to form anywhere else, though, of course, it has been known to happen. It has been nice to meet you, Technical Specialist. I look forward to working with you!"

Cerise notes the new arrivals and moves towards the back of the line (she wasn't standing in line, so much as next to it). As she moves towards the back she greets the next person back. (I think Doshi and Michelle are towards the front, so it must be Sillia) "Hello to you too, Private First Class Sill-ee-aa. Did I say that right? I apologize, but I do not yet speak Garudian, so I'm not certain on the pronunciation. My day is going quite well so far. I've met many new people. In particular I've now finally had the chance to meet an immature human. He was quite excited to tell me about some super-heroes that he enjoys incorporating into his imaginative play. Matt nods slightly to Cerise when she bids him farewell, "It's been a pleasure making your acquaintance ma'am. I also look forward to working with you as well."

Matt turns back to face the front of the line, patiently waiting for his turn to check in. As he waits, he looks around some more at the people gathered in the area, watching them and seeing the interactions between them.

He takes a note of the two pilots ahead of him (Doshi and Michelle), the other pilot looking fellow off on his own it seems (Kaarle), and raises and eyebrow when he sees the extremely young looking girl also standing in the cue (Miriana). Seeing Miriana in line makes his heart sink into his stomach.

Matt thinks to himself upon looking at Miriana, 'No way she's on the mission. There has to have been a mistake.'

Matt sighs, unsure of what he should do or say. She was wearing Lieutenants bars, but she didn't even look old enough to buy a drink, let alone eat a bullet. He fidgets a little as he stands there wondering what his next step would be, and finally decides to speak up to her.

He gently taps Miriana on the shoulder, "Excuse me... Are you reporting to Commander Rockatansky as well," He pauses, remebering the officers bars, "Ma'am?"

He knew it was a stupid question, but it was better than him asking her if she may have simply gotten lost. It was a risk, and if it ended in embarassment, at least he could lose himself in getting elbow deep in an Alpha fighter soon enough.

Miriana was still waiting when she felt a tap on her shoulder, causing her to turn around and look up at the source of the disturbance. During the pause after his question she raised an eyebrow, which lowered again when he added the formal address.

- "Yes i am. This is the correct line, i take it?"

Of course, the sign above the door made it pretty obvious whose office it was, though the question was more intended to draw attention to that fact rather than be an actual request for information. He did at the very least look old enough to be half-decent at his job which is why she supposed he was assigned to Special Operations as well.

She glanced at the rest of the line for a moment, noticing most of them looked to be about or a little above his age. None of them were the teenagers that had annoyed her so on the ship, so she figured it would be better to take the edge off a little: They were as mentioned too old to be said teenagers and too young to be their legal guardians, it would be wrong for her to take it out on Matt for a very understandable question of humans of her apparent age not even being allowed into the UEEF. She decided to follow suit.

- "My apologies, i have been beset by hormone filled teenagers throughout the trip over to this station and i am still mentally exhausted from their droning. I may be somewhat abrupt."

Re: Starting Point

As you wait a young woman with dark hair steps out of the office of Commander Rockatansky. She looks at a clipboard and calls out for Each of you in turn and a dozen others.

The first person Called into the Office of Commander Rockatansky is Lieutenant Cerise.
As you enter Commander Rockatansky welcomes you in, and after formal salutes, offers you his hand in friendship. He stands 5’10’ his black hair is brushed back. His uniform is black. With no marking other than his rank insignias.  The room is bare except his desk and the two chairs on either side of it. The desk has a holographic imager that has your file currently up for both to see.

He instructs you to sit as he himself sits down before speaking.  “Lt. Cerise, your Combat experience and your high recommendations from your pervious commanding officers along with your particular training has brought you to me. As of this moment you cease to exist, welcome to UEEF Intelligence, Black-ops division. I am giving you command of the Vulture a Horizon – X shuttle and Wraith Squadron who will be under command of Lt. Doshi Morimoto.  Your teams primary mission is simple, You will be sent out to explore sectors of space before the Gambits fleet. You and your team will explore possible habitable worlds to establish future colonies and forward bases of operations. If you find worlds which are inhabited already it is your responsibility to make first contact and establish a positive dialog with them.” He pauses to make sure you fully understand and following him. “You are here by promoted to Lieutenant second class.  I notice you are qualified for both Silverback and cyclones. If you have a particular unit you would prefer you need to tell my assistant immediately. Have Specialist Patterson and Yasan paint them black and remove all markings for them. Also get your armor painted as well. While you and your teams are aboard the Gambit, Deck chief Draven is in charge of the decks. Your team will need to work with him. Your pilots will be assigned to an eight man dorm and your crew will be assigned to one of two eight man dorms. You along with all your officers will be assigned to another dorm.  Dorms are co-ed so if you or your team has any issues, I suggest you adapt quickly. You and your team have a two week liberty pass to enjoy all that Freedom Stations has to offer. Do remember you are all assigned bunks and lockers.  So unless you convince me I have chosen the wrong woman for this assignment, report to my assistant outside and get your room assignment and new uniforms from her."

Lieutenant Morimoto is next to be called into the Office.

“I see your family is well connected in the military, I also notice you were talking to the young Lt. Grey.  Your specialized training as a UEEF Fleet Electronic Warfare/SEAD VT Pilot and previous combat experience is impressive; You are assigned My Vulture team. You will be assigned a Recon Shadow Alpha, and a cyclone of Choice. Your mecha will be painted Black and stripped of all markings. You will be assigned to 2nd Lt. Cerise who is the commanding officer of the Vulture. You r skills and experience have earned you an immediate promotion as well Lt Morimoto, as of this moment you are the squad commander of Wraith squadrons, which has been assigned to the Vulture. I know you have issues with aliens races, But you should remember, right now we are the aliens and we need their assistance in more than one way. You will remember you’re an officer and you will behave as such. But as of this moment you no longer officially exist, welcome to UEEF Intelligence, black-ops division. Unless you can convince me I have chosen the wrong man, in which case I will reassign you immediately otherwise Ill send you to see my assistant for uniform and room assignments. You will be in co-ed quarters; I hope this will not be an issue for you.”

Technical Specialist Patterson is next to be called in.

“Specialist Patterson, I see you dropped out of engineering school for a more hands on mecha experience.  You have been selected to maintain the mecha and vehicles of my Vulture team. You and Specialist Yasan will be expected to maintain, arm and to keep the mecha and the Horizon –X shuttle in perfect working order at all times. While you are aboard the UES Gambit you will work under deck Chief Draven. It is his decks and you two will be expected to work within the Gambits rule structures.” He looks at you and you can see the years of war experience in his eyes. “I see you have cyclone training. You will be assigned a cyclone of your choice and CVR-3 personal armor unless you would like to be a test pilot for a new unit called the hunter killer Bioroid. You are to paint it black and remove any identification marking. As of this moment you cease to truly exist. You are now a member of UEEF intelligence, Black -ops. Unless you can convince me I have chosen the wrong man. In which case I will reassign you immediately. See my assistant for uniform and room assignments. You will be in co-ed quarters; I hope this will not be an issue for you. ”

With that said lieutenant, I am giving you a fresh start. You will be assisting 2nd Lt. Cerise aboard the Vulure.  I personally do not care about your past Lt. Thakun, I expect you to do your job and make sure it is done correctly.   Michelle enters the commanders office and despite everything she has a hard time relaxing. her face turns bright red when he brings up her call sign. She about panics with the suggestion of returning to Dr. Ikari's team.
Looking down she shakes her head before answering his question is a submissive tone. "Sir, I have not exited since i was born, so I prefer to stay with Wraith Squadron, in the Intelligence branch." She looks up and says. "I will not let you down sir."

once dismissed she reports to the Assistant. "Ma'am Lt. Grey reporting. If i am given my choice of an Alpha veritech, I'd like VF/A-6Z, with a VR-038 light cyclone. Ma'am."

Once she gets her room assignment and any further instructions, she turns to Lt. Morimoto, "Congratulations sir. Lt. Grey reporting for duty. Despite my age, I will not let you down sir."

Epiphany snaps a perfect salute at the relaying of her orders, "Sundiata is perfectly trained sir." is all she says as she salutes again and turns to go get her room assignment and turn in her request for her beta and cyclone.

As she walks down the hall to her room she is tense, "Never ceased to exist before.  Kinda ominous." she remarks to herself as she reaches the door.  Upon entering the room she is greeted with a single "Woof" as Sundiata stands and comes over to her.  She sits on her bed and absently scratches his huge head as she ponders the ramifications of not existing, "Sorry I got you into this buddy." she says, laying her head on the massive dog, "To be honest though I am glad you are here." Sundiata shakes his huge head and let's out a large dog sigh, then gives her a lick on the hand and lays there with her.

Re: Starting Point

Cerise maintains her poise and composure, following the appropriate military etiquette to  the smallest detail. "Understood sir. We will set fire to a new road, excuse me, blaze a trail for the Gambit fleet, sir." Cerise stands, gives a crisp salute, makes a march about face, and marches to the exit.
After she passes the threshold she relaxes back to a normal walk and approaches the assistant. Using her rank and name from her name-tag or placard (or just rank if there is no visible name), she addresses the assistant, smiling in a friendly manner; "Please requisition a VM-9H, with the OSS-88, and HRG-70 for all hard points. I also like to requisition sufficient munitions, fuel and supplies, appropriate to the mecha and beings in the squadron, to be sent with us for the duration of our mission. If you would like specifics on the types and numbers, I would be happy to get back to you after I have had a chance to have a briefing with my team.
The Commander informed me that you would have new uniforms and a room assignment for me.
Thank you, and please have a pleasant day."

After receiving her uniforms and room assignment, she waits for the remainder of the team to gather outside the offices.

As the each emerge from the Commander's office, if they salute, she returns the salute, then she introduces herself (except to those she has already introduced herself to): "Welcome to the team. I am Second Lieutenant Cerise. It is a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to working with you." She then offers her hand to shake, if they are human, or asks if they have any similar custom, if they are not.

To Sillia she returns the salute, then responds, with a smile, "I appreciate that, Private First Class Sillia. I look forward to working with you. Does your species have any custom that is similar to the human custom of shaking hands?"

Once she has greeted everyone and they are all gathered she addresses everyone. "Officers and pilots, please make sure that Patterson and Yasan have the model and berth information for each of your mecha and make arrangements for the removal of markings, and repainting of your other equipment. Additionally, please prepare a dossier of the supplies and munitions you foresee needing on a fractional per day deployed basis. Include anything you will need to perform your duties in a wide variety of missions, including the range from civilian interaction to full combat. Support personnel, please coordinate all of the maintenance requirements with Deck Chief Draven, and make reports on your assessments of the daily needed supplies and munitions for the entire Vulture as well. I will compile our reports and work with our liaison to try to secure our logistics. Once you've completed these assignments, please enjoy the remainder of the next two weeks liberty on the station. As usual, do not lose contact, as we may be recalled early. Dismissed."

In reply to Max Rockatansky (msg # 27):

Once in the commandors office, Doshi gives a proper greeting and keeps his month shout. Doshi's in a minor shock that they would consider him for such a group. Its no secert he dislikes aliens, and based on that line its a mix from around the galaxy. And his take no prisoners  attitude on the field of battle doesnt exactly qualify his for a explore/scout group, but why special ops, ...... well this could have been my father's doing or maybe they see something in my skills that makes this crazy group come together.

OK time to close my month before I start drooling, and act like an officer, once the commander is done speaking, Doshi replies "Yes Sir, I understand Sir"

Once outside the office he scratches his head still thinking if he did the right thing.

Re: Starting Point

Matt was just about to offer a response to Miriana, but was cut off when he heard his name get called. Her response wasn't what he expected, and he thought he almost picked up a hint of contempt at her words, but he may have been reading too much into it.

"Tirolean? Zentraedi?" He asked himself.

Not wanting to keep the commander waiting, Matt simply finishes the conversation, "No need to apologize ma'am. I'd imagine it would be fairly annoying. But, I should go, wouldn't want to keep the commander waiting." He finshes with a loose salute, spins on his boot heel and makes his way into the commanders office.

He offers a crisp salute saying "Sir." to the commander and takes the seat that's offered. He listens intently to what the commander has to say but avoids outwardly reacting in any way. Inside, he's pumping his fists and cheering at the news that not only will be be ship side for this deployment, but will also essentially become a ghost. This is exactly what he needed.

Matt decided to jump in with both feet, to show his appreciation for the duties that have been given to him, "Sir, I'd very much like to test pilot the HK Bioroid, sir."

Emboldened by his new assignment, Matt adds with enthusiasm, "I won't let you, the ship, or the team down, sir!"

After Matt is dismissed, he salutes once more, turns sharply with military precision, but once his back is turned, a wide grin crosses his face as he exits the office. To those outside, Matt would appear to have found out that he'd just won the lottery and the Super Bowl, and married a model, all at the same time, he that happy with his meeting.

He heads straight for the commanders assistant, "Specialist Patterson reporting " And once given his uniform and room assignment, makes his way over to Cerise and listens to her speech/briefing.

Re: Starting Point

Miriana watched Petterson go in when his name was called, giving him a nod of approval to leave even though she had no way of stopping him even if she wanted to. When he emerged, she was the next to be called in.

The conversation left a favorable impression on her, firstly because he showed a great deal of efficacy without dancing around the subject, and secondly because he had been working with Dr. Ikari. She figured she would not end up regretting being posted where she was. As for her reaction to the news that she no longer existed, she did not look surprised. This would not be the first time.

Once emerged from the office to hear the next person get called in, a Garudian by the looks of it, she walked up to the assistant only to be stopped by someone. She was about to dismiss her when the woman introduced herself as Lieutenant Cerise, to which she perked up.

- "Ah, in that case lieutenant, the Commander informed me i am to be assisting you on the Vulture. Lieutenant Miriana Thakun, Engineering."

After saluting she would shake hands if the initiative for it lay with Cerise, before waiting to be dismissed for her to turn to the Garudian that entered the office after she had left it, and walked over to the assistant.

- "Greetings, i would requisition a Hunter-Killer Bioroid to be assigned to me please. I believe you are to assign me my quarters?"

She didn't know what kind of enthusiasm Matt had displayed in the office, but having come out shortly after him there was a chance that he had overheard her requisition a HK with the assistant. If it needed to be repainted she wanted to make sure her superiors would know of it.

Re: Starting Point

Kaarle finally begins to relax a little as he see someone exiting Commander Rockatansky's office.

He watches and listens intently waiting for his turn to enter the office.  It isn't long before he finally hears his name called and he confidently steps into the office.

At first blush he is surprised at the lack of decor in the office wondering if this was really a commander's office.  He shakes away the disrespectful thought and shakes Rockatansky's hand firmly.

"2nd lieutenant Kaarle Cherkovski reporting for duty sir"

Listening carefully to his new orders he gets the sense that he wasn't one of the commanders first choices for this duty assignment.  His personal feelings have NEVER been an issue and he has ALWAYS followed his orders with expediency and without question.

Not wanting to loose out on this opportunity he salutes the commander and steps out of the office.

He is immediately accosted by one of his new commanding officer's Cerise.  He gives her a quick salute A pleasure to meet you  He gives her a firm hand shake then turns his attention elsewhere. If you'll excuse me Commander Rockatansky said to speak with his assistant and that I would be reporting to Lt. Doshi Morimoto.  With another quick salute he continues with his tasks.

Seeing the assistant standing there he approaches her without hesitation and with a salute he asks.  "Commander Rockatansky said to report to you for room assignment and a new uniform.  Additionally I need to requisition a new veritech fighter, a VF/A-7B  DELTA FIGHTER with standard load-out"

Once he has things completed with the assistant he looks for Lt. Doshi Morimoto.  recognizing him from when he was called into this office he approaches Lt. Doshi saluting him.

"2nd lieutenant Kaarle Cherkovski reporting for duty sir"

Doshi salutes 2nd Lt. Cerise, and when she extends her hand for a shake, he hesitates, .... "Doshi Morimoto 3rd Lt. Alpha Pilot, assigned as squad commander of Wraith Squadron Ma'am,"

Thinking to myself, ...
'Isn't this just great I have a purple grape for my senior officer, ....'

He reaches out and shakes her hand, looking her dead in the eyes he gives one of his grins, ... he stand quietly on the side as she barks orders, once she's done "Ma'am, Yes Ma'm".

Doshi waits for cerise to be done and looks at this squad. He starts to eye ball them one by one, ... "Ok you heard the Lieutenant's commands lets get to it Wraith Squadron, ..... "

OOC: If any eye ball him back, ... "What the hell are you look at ! ?"  Regardless of the reply he walks to the next member of the squad. Doshi has never commanded before so he figures he just do what was done to him by his first squad leader, ... it kinda of worked for him.

He turns back to Lt. Cerise, "Excuse me Ma'am, I going to get my things ready as ordered." Again thing to himself 'I'm going to regret taking this assignment, ... I just fell it.'

"OK Kaarle, .... I don't know you, not yet at least, .... and I don't really care if they are green with pink poke-a-bots,"
Doshi says this as his eyes roll about as if its taking all his strength to pull the words out "they do their jobs and I do mine. And if any of them screw this up I will kill them myself."

"So if your worried about anyone, worry about keeping me alive so I can keep you alive."

"Now that I'm done off the record, I will go on the record, ... I know as much as you do and I feel the same way about the same issues. You may think I'm crazy to say it but yes on the record they are to young and aliens fighting on uncharted space by my side sucks, it's not exactly something I would do either, .... BUT I have my orders and I had my chance to back out and I think everyone had that same chance .... so, thanks for making my choice for Assistant Squad Leader that much easier," Doshi extend his right hand and arm on Kaarle's left shoulder, give it a little shake and grins .... Your It. Congraduation! your now just as responsible for them as I am." Doshi exhales with a long and dragged out sound almost on purpose, in a calmer tone and with excitement in his voice ... its almost like what he was saying before was for show, he pulls in a bit closer so only he can hear "Last thing, ... all that other stuff, get it out of your head ... stay in the game and we will do fine."

Attend Wraith Squadron, .... line up!

"My name is Lt Doshi Morimoto, I'm your Squad Leader and Commander of Wraith Squadron, .... I'm a no non-sense kinda of guy and I can't lie so I don't, ... it's much easier to spit out the truth them to remember the fluff & lies. SO anyone have any questions?

"Hold on I almost forgot, I don't care to know your real names, the moment your left the Senior Commander's office you agreed to the terms, ... I only want your call signs, ... remember from the moment you said yes you stopped to exist so your names aren't important to anyone anymore."

"SO start calling me "Bushido" boys, girls that includes the rest of you as well" clear remarks on his thoughts of the younger members and the aliens.

Once it is clear that no one has any further questions for her, Cerise heads to her assigned quarters; she puts her meager possessions into her locker, then heads back out to the logistics offices. There she requisitions a personal terminal (OOC: like a tablet computer) because she'll now need to keep track of all kinds of information and do lots of research. Once she has this in hand, she returns to her bunk and sits down to begin some work. She sits on her bunk with her SAD light beside her, plugged into the wall, dressed in the minimum clothing that she expects a human would find socially acceptable within quarters.

First she sends a message to Lt. Morimoto on the UEEF's SCI network (Whatever their equivalent to the JWICS is):
3rd Lieutenant Morimoto
Once you have made your selection for assistant squad leader, please advise me of who it is to be, so that I will be aware of your squad's structure.
Additionally, if you have any questions about our team's primary mission, I'd be happy to try to answer them.
2LT Cerise

Next she pulls up the specs for a Horizon-X shuttle, so that she can familiarize herself with her team's primary transport. (I'm assuming it is a lot like a Horizon-V, which, itself is much like a Horizon-T, but maybe the X means it has fold capability?)

After this she pulls up the dossiers of her team, to check on duty ratings; she'll need to know capabilities to know who can perform what functions and who can back them up.

Finally she calculates her munitions and supply needs on a per day basis, both for her Silverback and for the Horizon-X. To do this, she'll start with the pre-calculated spec requirements, which assume that the unit is being used in the main line battle, and augment those numbers where an inconsistent (and sometimes non-existent) supply line is going to make critical differences.

Re: Starting Point

In reply to Doshi Morimoto (msg # 41):

After listening intently to Doshi, somewhat surprised at his candor, he begins to realize just the kind of person Doshi is.  He looks at Doshi curiously as he touches his shoulder and tells him of his newest role.

"Well sir I'm not sure whether to thank you or curse having ever met you, in any case I will endeavour to keep you and rest of them alive as long as possible" he says with a wry grin on his face and a salute.<orange>"Thank you sir"

He steps back and begins to watch as Lt Doshi makes his announcement to the rest of the crew.  Most of his initial anxiety has vanished now as he watches his new commander take charge, he starts to look forward to the weeks ahead.

Looking at the other crew members he wonders just how things are going to work out, with no love for aliens or half breeds, and even less for kids his own age he knows it will be quite the challenge putting up with it all.

Regardless of everything he is ready for it, this is what he's wanted his whole life and soon he will be in the cockpit of his own Veritech fighter.  With that last thought the excitement is almost to much to bear.   Once things have died down and everyone is going about their own business he makes his way to his quarters.  There he drops off his belongings and gets everything put away neatly and makes his bunk.

Zipped off?

quote:

Once done with his speech to Wraith Squadron Doshi heads out to Commander Rockatansky assistant to request his Recon Shadow Alpha the VF/A-6X Shadow Fighter and his cyclone - VR-052 Cyclone - T model for light assault, equipped with the standard EP-40 ion pulse pistol, and the - F version, CVR-3 body armor, speaking to the assistant "Please don't forget to paint that black for all Wraith Squadron Mechas". After, .....

Doshi grabs his personal stuff and heads to his room, ... he tosses his stuff on the bed looks around and walks back out leaving his stuff. He then heads to the Quarter Master to request some more items and gear, uniforms in black, a M-37 pistol and H-90 Rifle with extra ammo for each and coated in black.

Now That's done lets get to know my crew, ....

Doshi goes back to his room and puts his stuff away, as he makes himself comfortable he opens his lap top and accesses the personal profiles of those assign to him. With an apple in one hand and the lap top sitting on the bed he uses the audio feature and reviews the files.

In a soft automated computer tone, 'Kaarle Cherkovski' age xx, rank xx, etc etc etc. and so on, ..... Doshi is quiet and carefully listening to every detail, trying to put as much as possible to memory on each of his members, especially the skills and specialties, ... he also take a special interest in the reports from past commanders and squad leader.

Once the introductions had been completed, Miriana wasted little time in getting to her room and setting up her locvker to have everything she wanted within easy reach. Once she was done, she placed the compact refrigerator net to it -- regretting not having anything to put in it yet -- and went to her bunk, placing the Perfect Vision Virtual Reality Interface on her head and lying down to play a game.

Lt Cerise,
Hope you did not mind me taking it to the squad earlier today. My intention was simple, to make sure that we were on the same page and they understand that an order is an order and that's what we do, follow orders and of course complete missions.

I think its everyone's goal to stay alive, ... so we can share our stories with our children's children.

I have indeed selected for the time being, Kaarle Cherkovski call sign 'Kchek' as the assistant squad leader, it seems we actually share some things in common and I think he will do fine.

I also would like to meet and discuss how you want me to handle things, just like I want my crew on my page, I want to be on yours.

Lt Doshi Morimoto, call sign 'Bushido'

Thinking to himself, ....
Great got that out of the way, ... I think I would have preferred an extraction from the dentist, ... I hope the purple grape understands. It's not that I don't like her I just don't like any of them.

As I have not currently been assigned a roommate, we can use my quarters as a temporary flight hq. Re: Starting Point

Having settled into his new bunk he decides it's best to change out of his old dress uniform and into his new fatigues.  When he sees Bushido enter the room he stands to attention giving a salute before returning to his task of getting dressed.  Once he has everything in order and is satisfied with his appearance he notices Bushido going on about his own business of listening to personnel files so he makes it a point to quietly slip out of the room.

Kchek makes his way to the Quarter Master to stock up on personal gear.  Once there he requests the following:

Gallant H-90 side arm with all attachments, 4 extra h-90 Protoculture Energy Clips, two flares, two smoke grenades, survival kit, canteen, flight suit, sunglasses, and UEEF Pilot's Survival/Floatation Vest.  He makes it clear everything must be in black, no markings of any kind.  Additionally he requests CVR-3M Personal Environmental Combat Armor and then asks to amend his previous request of a VF/A-7B  DELTA FIGHTER to also include VR-052T Infantry Assault Cyclone making it clear that it and the Veritch should be black with no markings.

With everything squared away and no other orders at this time he decides to make his way back to his room.

With that all out of the way she makes her way to her assigned quarters, Once there she unpacks her duffel bag and new uniforms into her locker and drawer. Smiles as Doshi jokes about himself.  He can understand the feelings he has towards non-humans aren't really any different from his own. You and me both... he lets out his own soft chuckle wondering how the hell they got themselves into being surrounded by aliens.

As they continue their journey Doshi mentions his brother and then earth and things kinda get quiet "Never been to earth myself...always wanted to see it though.  As for where I am from actually I was born on SDF-3, spent my entire life in space" his thoughts begin to trail as he thinks about his parents.  It isn't long before his smile fades and they find themselves in the officers lounge looking for an empty table.  While Doshi is finding them a place to sit he walks up to the bar and says to the bartender."A bottle of Bourbon and two glasses please, and if you could send someone over to take our meal order that'd be appreciated"

After paying he grabs the bottle and glasses and sits across from Doshi pouring both of them a shot.

"I don't know about you but I could use a drink, hopefully we can get some decent food here as well"

He eyeballs the glass for a moment before raising it up to Doshi and without a word downs the whole thing.  He starts to pour himself another glass when he decides to break the tension.  "So what you think about getting into these new Veritechs?  I know we have two weeks to ourselves but I'd like to get a little acquainted with them if you know what I mean"  he makes it a point not to bring up SDF-3 again unless asked.

"So these Shadow Fighters, I heard they have some type of stealth feature, but fly exactly the same as our Alpha Fighters. The rumor I heard is that the Invid sensors could detect our emissions. So if this stuff really works it should give us an edge. But these Invids are tricky bastards, .... I would think we would rather see our new tech be destroyed then a ship be captured, .... I mean we wouldn't want them to figure out what we have."

"So listen I was kind of was serious about what I said on the line we need to keep each other alive and we are responsible now for the squad. Do you have a problem with that? This time its presented in a less ordering way. "I could change it if you do."

After the serious question and answer session is over Doshi starts to talk about other non-important and general stuff. He is a bit of a photographer and talks a little about some of the places he has been and about some of his travels. By this time Doshi has had one to many and its close to his meeting with the Lt.

During their conversations he reveals that he himself is something of a history buff, mostly of the last 50 years prior to the space wars.  He hopes that someday he can visit earth.  He continues to avoid any talk of SDF-3 or his family for the time being though is sure that he read this his records in their entirety he already knows about his parents.  His father dying on patrol shortly before he was born, his mother being murdered by her Zentradi lover when he was only twelve.  It's not something he likes to talk about and cares even less to this about.

Its not long before Bushido is trying to make his exit, wondering just how he's going to make it through his meeting with the CO.

"I'll hold you to that..." he responds regarding the next bottle before he takes the one at the table and downs the rest of it's contents before stumbling to his feet and trying to make his way back to his bunk.

Re: Starting Point

"It is my understanding that this whole mission, meaning the Gambit fleet's overall mission, is a brand new venture. Given that, it would be expected that much of the crew, including many of the teams, would be fairly inexperienced. But, even so, several of our team are actually fairly well experienced, for example" Cerise looks down at her data pad "Private First Class Kelta, callsign Snowflake, is quite experienced, with quite a lot of combat under her belt. Several of us have had a few years of experience in either the Navy or Marines. Given the fact that we are to do both reconnaissance and diplomatic duties it is improbable that there are many units that already have both diplomats that have some combat experience as well as an experienced variety of both ground and aerospace combat personnel and support crew.

As for recalling the unit for a training run, I agree; I'd planned to both do a communications check sometime in this first week and gather them for a short-notice recall and simulated mission sometime next week. These should give us an idea of how quickly they can adapt, how well they stay within communications, and how well they can work together. If you like I can program the simulation myself, so that you can assess your own ability to react within the flight leadership position during simulated combat. As for myself, I did plan on having my executive officer, once I have identified them, within the ground unit act as tactical leader during combat operations, so that I can focus on the strategic matters at hand, so it shouldn't matter too much if the situation is not unexpected for me.

If you are feeling unwell, perhaps you should seek out the assistance of the infirmary?"

Re: Starting Point

Upon seeing Lt. Vanrossum, Doshi's buzzed feeling starts to fade quickly as his adrenaline starts to kick in from the thought of being improper in front of the senior officer, "Well Lt. Vanrossum, thank you for that information. Lt. Cerise I think that answered my questions so no need to really continue. I will finish getting my things ready and enjoy the rest of my leave." Doshi's a bit upset that he left the door open for Lt. Vanrossum to listen in, ... it also make him feel that people will be snooping around.

Thinking to himself ... 'Come on she was listen to the whole conversation before interrupting, I'm not going to let that happen again.' then turns so only Lt Cerise can see his face, ... so when Doshi looks over at Lt. Cerise he raises a single eyebrow saying with a facial expression can you believe this, .... "Lt. with your permission" Doshi walks out of the room.

Once outside in the corridor and clear of anyone he lets out a bit winded 'sheesh' can't believe that crap, I'm completely surrounded with all the stuff I hate ..... deep space, aliens and officers with bugs up their butt. I mean can this get any worse.

Doshi heads back to his room, were he finds his new uniforms and equipment. He gets cleaned up and dresses in his new Dress Blacks. Doshi's the type to always be in uniform. He doesn't like to be caught off guard and he's stuck on this thing that if he's in a uniform then its always business even when they say it's not.

For the rest of the day and evening Doshi spends his time reading up on files and research the team, their combat and missions, background and 'pycho' profile. If his roomy comes back he spends sometime chatting but gets back to his reading and research.

For the rest of his time off, its spent doing the same unless others interact with him. When really board he goes for a quick run for a few miles, the gym, eats and every evening hits the lounge for a drink (always trying to get the others to pay and offers to get them back next time).

Epiphany sighs, "I guess I am going to have to rain-check that meal.  Seems I have been promoted and need to pack my gear again." she moves back into the room and begins packing her stuff up.  Once finished she heads off to her new bunk rm 127.  She enters and looks around seeing no one in the room she selects a bunk and begins to unpack her stuff.  Sundiata regards her quizzically his head tilting to one side, "Yeah I know, this is our room now though." she says laughing, "I'm sure we can still get to know the nice lady from the last room." she finishes as she unpacks the last of her gear and throws the dog a treat.  The small piece of jerky doesn't even make the massive dog chew but he wags his nub of a tail happily and follows her out of the room.

Having made his way back to his bunk after his meal with Doshi (aka Bushido) Kaarle sleeps off his drunkenness until morning.

Throughout the rest of his free time he spends it either checking and re-checking all his equipment to make sure it's in perfect working order.  He familiarizes himself with his new veritech fighter performing dry runs.  To most this would seem unnecessary however to him it is essential that he knows his equipment top to bottom.

The rest of his time he can be either found doing PE throughout most of his morning, and wandering the shops and such on the space station trying to find odd trinkets from earth, these include movies, books, music, anything he can get his hands on.

Kaarle continues this routine until it's time depart from the station all together.

Iphigenia, You are invited into Commander Rockatansky officer. The room is bare except his desk and the two chairs on either side of it. The desk has a holographic imager that has your file currently up for both to see.

He smiles, I am glad you have accepted the invite to join my black-ops team. Your room is 234, your cyclone is already in the hanger being painted black. Your new uniforms are awaiting for you to pick up. Your CO is in Room 123 and I imagine she will be there in the later evening.

As the groups only medic you will care for all the members of the Vulture teams. This includes the Dropship's crew, The marines and Veritech squad assigned to her.

You have a few days left of leave before we depart into our six month voyage. You are dismissed unless you have any questions.

Once you have gotten your uniforms you are shown where your room is.

She goes too pick up her new uniforms and then goes to her new room number 234, she get to the room and looks around, she noticed that there are a few bunks filled already, she took the closest bunk to the door so she has an easier way of getting to an emergency she puts her uniforms and her other miscellaneous gear in the locker provided for her.

It was probable at this point that she had missed a transfer flight somewhere down the line and wouldn't be arriving until the net transport would dock.

She shrugged. She placed the headset neatly back in the box she had got it from, and decided to go to the Mess hall for a bite to eat.

Re: Starting Point

After the first couple of days, which she mostly spent studying, calculating, checking on gear and equipment, and generally planning the mission, Cerise spent most of her days around civilians. She especially liked to talk to children and homeless people; both had unique insights that they were generally willing to share. She also enjoyed giving the homeless people food, as it seemed quite sad to her that nourishment was not free for humans. During the evening she was mostly in her quarters with all of the lights on. She also acquired some work lights to further brighten her quarters. When Iphigenia arrives, she is sitting at the desk, watching a historical documentary about Earth's 1980's. When she hears the knock she turns down the volume and goes tot he door "Hello? Ah, you must be Iphigenia, the corpsman? It is nice to meet you. I am second lieutenant Cerise. Ah, please excuse the lights, I will put some of them out so that you can be more comfortable." Cerise turns out the work lights that are making her room glaringly bright, and offers Iphigenia as chair. "As I said, it is nice to meet you." Cerise offers her hand to shake, then sits down as well.

Epiphany spends her time getting used to the ship, finding its nooks and crannies.  She establishes an appropriate path to run for her "morning" workout and introduces Sundiata to the crew.  She does spend a little time off ship but that is to merely buy supplies for the excursion, mainly a large amount of footballs, which she uses to play fetch with Sundiata when she can.  After her Cyclone is painted she checks it out by running a few exercises in it to make sure the paint didn't cause any strange glitches.  "I do like the new color though." she says approvingly.

Re: Starting Point

GM Note: I am gonna go ahead and assume everyone has checked in with commanders and bunks. I am hoping we do not have a high loss. But this is the begin of the adventure. I will be opening the other thread for mission shortly.

The days leading up to the fleets departure see you and everyone else too busy to do much more then work and sleep.  Mecha check and recheck. The Vulture and Wraith squadron sit on a hanger bay alone where they are made ready. The Missiles and ammo being loaded into the various mecha under the supervision of each of the operators and pilots. Test flights have been short distances around Space Station Freedom to ensure everything is working properly.

The Fleet vessels are giving the final prep and preflight test their full attention and it is with a little surprise that the UES Hawkings is added last minute to the fleet’s roster. The Garfish hanger pods have been replaced with the science pods. But like the rest of the fleet it is fully involved with mission preps.
As the Ground pounders enter the hanger with their mecha they see new emblem on the right shoulders. Most of the members jaws hit the floor with satisfaction. (players have to decide for themselves of their reaction)
Members Wraith Squadron comes up to their mecha to find an emblem on the right outside tail fin on their alpha Veritechs and on the right wing housing/arm the day before departure (it’s the picture below).
As the shuttle crew, ground team and vertiech squadron begin to load the Vulture with the various mecha of the three groups, Commander Rockatansky and is aid Lt. Vanrossum walk onto the deck. The young Vulture pilot Sgt. Swift announces their arrival by giving the standard Officer on Deck call so everyone knows and comes to attention in front of the Vulture.

Commander Rockatansky’s has a grim face on as he looks at each of you before he finally speaks; “ First  you will notice Your ground team is now officially known as Banshees, they will be led by Lt. Thakun, with Sgt. Korvan  as her Executive Officer.  Now as you all know we are departing tomorrow at 0600, The Vulture and Hyena will be flying escort. Each drop ship will be on a forty eight hour rotation between missions. This means you will be on active duty and off the Gambit for two whole days while the Hyena and her crew get to rest in their bunks while your team enjoys the comfy feeling of closeness of your dropship.
Now In two day we will be defolding in the Unicrum sector. From this point the Vulture and the Hyena will be sent out to various locations ahead of the fleet to survey which course the fleet will take. Your job is simple; your secondary duty is to find habitable worlds. Make sure there are no Invid or other Hostile life and report back to the Gambit. Your primary job is to make sure that any hostiles are unable to strike the fleet in any capacity. I cannot stress enough on your primary purpose. Your failure to do your primary mission could put the fleet in danger. Under no circumstance are you to return to the fleet with hostile in tow.”

He give each of you another solid look before he opens the floor to questions.

And without further ado she left for her quarters to receive the two she had just called to her quarters for varying reasons. Korvan made sense for being her assistant, but her reason for calling Sillia could only be guessed at.

As Korvan listens to the commander, he stands at attention. when the meeting is over and Lt. Thakun tells him and Sillia to report to her quarters, he salutes and says yes ma am.

It is clear that there is some friction between the two teenagers on the group, the fifteen year old Corporal Winters and Lt. Grey seem to be at odds and several times they even get into a screaming match. Sgt Korvan and Lt. Cherkovski have to order the two apart.

The rest of the crew are quite as the commander speaks and as soon as the commander goes get back to work loading ordnance and running through the final preps.

Iphigenia looks over the small room which is her medical facility. One trauma bed and emergency equipment only. You find your medical console with everyone attached to the vulture's crew files.

Sitting inside at the small desk, Miriana gave Sillia permission to enter. She had heard the shouting match begin and had assumed Korvan would come later, as long as such shouting matches were not among Banshee members themselves she supposed her appointed assistant would be more than capable making arrangements with the Wraiths' XO without having to bother either of their respective Commanders.

- "Greetings private. Have a seat."

She motioned to a nearby chair, waiting for the Garudan to sit down or state her preference to remain standing, whichever she preferred.

- "The reason i've called you here is two concerns of mine regarding unit cohesion and efficacy. I'm not one to bandy words so i'll cut to the chase. First, as the only other HK pilot in Banshee Squadron, what is your experience with the HK? I've been on multiple sorties and campaigns and have my Elite Combat certification. If you are still in the process of mastering the HK i could assist you with some lessons in the sim, but you will understand my obligation to ensure members of my Squadron get assigned mission objectives within their individual capabilities."

She paused for a few seconds to let it sink in before continuing, preferring to have Sillia think of both replies at the same time.

- "The second is simpler, and of a more cultural concern. You are a Garudan. As fate would have it, both your CO and XO are Zentraedi, as are some of your fellow squadron members. Will this be a problem?"

Miriana gave Sillia a nod in response.

- "Excellent, i shall be looking forward to favorable sim results. Dismissed, private."

From the tone of her voice was not appreciation, but rather the satisfaction of having heard the answer she had been expecting to hear. While ill feelings and revenge were foreign among the Zentraedi ranks -- she preferred to see the actions of Malcontents to be an offshoot of overexposure to Micronian culture -- humans were far more inclined to such feelings, and she wanted to make sure Sillia had the 'correct' mentality when it came to that.

She pulled out a datapad and started bringing up schematics, then took a piece of paper and started making pencil drawings of what appeared to be a satellite of some shape or form. While she had not replied to Cerise's transmission she had indeed received it, and did not want to waste her time with anything other than results, or at the very least a workable set of schematics, and there was no reason she shouldn't get started on it in the time it took Korvan to reach her room.

Dealing with Cpl. Winters Korvan makes his way to Lieutenant Thakun's quarters, passing Sillia though the hall. A quick nod of acknowledgement as he passes by, he chooses not to ask why she was questioned. before he knocks, he strightens his uniform  and makes sure not even a hair is out of its place before he knocks on the young officers door.

Once he is invited in, salutes and says; "Staff Sergent Korvan Eshta, reporting as ordered Ma'am." He declines any offer to sit preferring to stand. He is hard and the scar on the left side of his face a grim reminder of the many hard fought years of service. Re: Starting Point

Miriana gave Korvan permission to enter and repeated much of the same routine she had with Sillia. Welcoming him in, offering the chair and giving no indication that she was put off by whichever of the two he would prefer -- in this case, stand. Yes, an interesting contrast.

- "Greetings Sergeant. As i have just told Sillia i do not make a habit of dancing around the subject, so there are a few things i have to ask you as this will be the first time we have met. We will doubtlessly need to coordinate our efforts and appear united even if we disagree on something... First, as my XO, are there any expectations you would have of me as your CO, and what is your preferred approach if, all things being equal, your choice would not affect the outcome?"

Spotting something in her peripheral vision, she looked down at the schematics she had been working on and corrected a small thing, scribbling a note about it in a corner of the paper. It was still very much a work in progress but most of the concept was ready to be formed into a proposition to Cerise later. Good. Very good. She looked up again.

- "My second question is also work related. When i asked Sillia about her expertise with the Hunter-Killer, she mentioned you planned for her to be on overwatch duty. Now, conveniently enough lieutenant Cerise has requested a self-destructible small satellite we could use as a communications relay so as not to allow any enemy listening outposts to triangulate the location of our home base. It will however take time for such a satellite to be built, and so for our first deployment i would like you and Sillia in high orbit to act as the aforementioned communications relay. You two will be consistently paired together, and it will provide plenty of opportunity to test private Sillia's maneuvering and general level of mastery over her HK. Only when you report to me that you are satisfied with her prowess will i move her on to missions with higher odds of combat: I will not allow the half-trained to endanger team survival. Understood?"

She sits at the console for a few more hours reading everybody’s medical records. While Iphigenia reads over the files she makes another mental note to make sure that the files are up to date and if not to have a one on one with those whose files do need to be updated along the way.

His posture changes as he speaks; "I am assuming I have permission to speak freely since your questions require it." His voice does not rise but takes a more firm tone as he continues. "At this point it is obvious you have no real combat experience, so quite truthfully I would expect you not to get the entire squad killed on our first outing."
His look becomes hard as steel. "Now lieutenant, you listen here. Private First Class Sillia has been cleared for the Hunter Killer suit. She is a marksman with a sniper rifle and the Armor Piercing Cannon she has been issued. She is the Squadrons most skilled wilderness Sniper scout."

Re: Starting Point

Miriana took a deep breath, giving Korvan an unreadable look as he unleashed his contempt upon her. She had done well to have this private meeting right now, it was good to get the bad blood out so that both would know that they had to expect from one another, and the act of appearing disinterested in this meeting had goaded him into speaking his mind perfectly.

- "Sergeant..."

She paused for a second to ensure she had his attention, and his tirade had been over.

- "...The 'Thakun' which i took as my last name was a Zentraedi battlecruiser that served in Supreme Commander Dolza's fleet, and after the flagship's destruction we hid among the rings of Saturn to perform hit-and-run attacks on Micronian ships, expecting the Masters to send reinforcements. My clone line was an experimental one developed shortly afterwards to increase the amount of mental fortitude, increasing our resistance to exposure to Micronian culture. The reason i was cloned from Meltrandi cells rather than Zentraedi ones was because our ship carried a mixed crew of our own men and survivors recovered from the wreckage of allied ships. I am not some fresh trainee out of some Micronian Officer School, i was BORN an officer. Do we understand one another, Sergeant? My callsign, 'Taranis' is a reference to a mythological god of thunder in Micronian culture whom is also associated with the planet Jupiter, the location where i gained my first kill on a capital ship, a Garfish-class if memory serves. And we have kept this up until we were defeated six months ago. And while the Micronization process was not without its faults..."

She paused for a moment to brush some imaginary dust from the front of her uniform, the motion in itself intended to bring the attention on her body's apparent age.

- "...I assure you i am fully acquainted -- be it in a different manner than most -- with the strengths and weaknesses of Micronian vessels to be able to effectively command my squadron. Now, let that sink in for a moment... We were not traitors, we were not Malcontents, we were the enemy. I take pride in what i did, i do not regret a single moment of it. Just as i do not regret a single moment out of any of my actions since because it was those actions that allow me to fight the Invid like we were supposed to now."

She paused for a moment to wet her lips before continuing, trying to keep her own anger at being treated as an ignorant youth in check.

- "Now, as for private Sillia... As Commander Rockatansky has told us a moment ago, our primary objective, the one thing held above all else, is that we should not be leading the enemy back to the fleet. Sillia is a sniper, and it has been exactly this that made me decide to give her the task of acting as a communications relay until the satellite i am currently designing is cleared for construction. Because she is a sniper, she will have access to the best of optics and long-range scanning equipment. Because she is a sniper, she is trained in spotting potential hostiles at exceptionally long ranges. You are correct in that the two of you would stand little chance in combat in a zero gravity environment because you shouldn't be fighting there! Aside from relaying communications, your main task will be to inform the ground teams of approaching hostiles so we can all pull out long before we enter their scanning range, and coordinate the ground teams from above to take out minor threats. The task i am placing in your and Sillia's hands is directly related to our primary objective, our reason for being here and the success of the mission which we as a whole have been given."

She leaned back in her seat, folding her hands in front of her and placing them on the desk.

- "I am no stranger to the desire for honor and glory that exists both within the Zentraedi and Micronian forces, but do not reflect your desires in this field upon me. I am placing the keys to this mission's success in the combination of Sillia's ability to detect hostiles from exceptional ranges and your ability to strategically coordinate ground team movement for the utmost of efficiency and least risk possible. Are you saying that i was wrong to do so?"

She raised an eyebrow, waiting for Korvan to reply to her closing question.

Re: Starting Point

Korvan looks at the Lieutenant in front of him trying to be trying to play his emotions with her last statement. Playing with her uniform Children; “Lieutenant, let’s be perfectly clear here, I do not care about where your call sign comes from. Or which clone line you come from. Your information is inaccurate, or your memory is faulty. There have not been any UEEF ships fighting Zentraedi in Earths Sector in the last Decade Lieutenant. I know you’re an educated young woman, I know you’re from Dr. Ikari’s group. I have served with Commander Rockatansky for two decades lieutenant,  I have been to Eden and seen many of the Works of Dr. Ikari. Hence the reason I have been assigned to you.”

He looks at her for a moment collecting his thoughts.  He could not help but wonder if she had been trying to seduce him or play him.

“Sillia is a scout and sniper, she is on over watch. A giant battlepod sitting on top of her is going alert every Invid or other species to her presence. I am not sure if you actually ever had true combat experience lieutenant. Nor do I think you truly know. But that said. You’re making a mission plan without any information, your drawing before you even getting to know your team. I am not sure what you are drawing but at this time the only communication devise with the fleet we have is the Dropship we have been assigned. So unless you want me sitting there babysitting you and your pictures I’ll be in the field leading the team and keeping your pretty uniform in prime condition.  Now ma’am unless you really have something important to say, I have a team and a bird to help prep.  Also lieutenant, I will not be coming back to your personal quarters.”

Before he leave the room, He looks back at the young officer behind him; “if you do not like my style you have my permission to take it up with the commander directly.” With that he leaves.

Re: Starting Point

- "No existing UEEF ships, true, but the squadron we are in does not technically exist either. And yet, here we are. My information is accurate."

Miriana kept looking at him as she corrected him, letting the implications of just how exactly she had met Dr. Ikari if she had had no connection to Earth or the UEEF prior to six months ago. She continued.

- "To clarify, I do not seek an XO that simply parrots everything I say nor one that fears too much for his personal career to intervene in what he sees as a poor strategic decision. Your response was satisfactory and I will expect you to continue to do so in the future. Dismissed."

She started rolling up the sketches she had made as Korvan left the room. She didn't like him much, but only a Micronian would allow that to influence a working relationship. He was efficient and different enough from her that she could expect different views and that was all she needed in an XO.
