Character Creation 3.0

BASIC RULES FOR CREATING YOUR Robotech Characters

Welcome To Robotech the Adventures of the UES Gambit and Fleet. Here you will find the basic rules for creating your Character(s). It will help if you have Robotech The Shadow Chronicles Role Playing Book. But Since I have tweaked with character generation I preftweaked with character generation I prefer you to use this process. ation I prefer you to use this process. I believe we have created a through step by step system to get you through the complicated proceto get you through the complicated process of creating you Robotech character(s).

The First and most important rule. Have fun!

  Step 1) Character Concept
When asking to create a new character you should have an idea of what you would like to play.  A starting point to work from. Be creative here. Use the Character sheet provided as it has all the break away sections which will be posted in the various location on the forms.

Step 2) Choose Your Characters Race
There are ten playable races in the Robotech universe. Read up on them and choose the one you would like to play.
Playable Races
Human
Zentraedi
Half Zentraedi
Tirolian
Half Tirolian
Karbonarite
Praxian
Garudan
Spherian
Preytons

Step 3) Determine your Attribute Rolls
Humans Roll your stats using four six sided dice, keeping the 3 highest rolled. If the three equaled 16 or better you add the forth dice to the overall total. You may place your rolls in any attribute you desire on you character sheet.
Hybrids, and the other Aliens characters roll as specified by their race.
A Quick Note: I do not use the Quick Attribute and Suggested OCC and MOS charts from the Robotech books. Certain Life events will give you experiences, bonuses and possible skills.

Step 4) Determine your childhood/adolescent background
All fleet and colony children are in mandated school till the age of sixteen when they have graduated high school. (earthbound characters are not subject to this rule).
            Each player rolls life experience

Step 5) Determine your military Service or Sentinel campaign background.
A character can enlist at seventeen years old, for a four years enlistment. With two and four year reenlistment. Plus six months for basic and M.O.S. training.
An officer must complete a two year college degree. Complete basic training before their four month officer’s candidate school. And all this is on top of their four years of enlistment.  The Average starting age for an officer is nineteen to twenty years old. A warrant or petty officer can apply for officer’s candidate school. (A character must be third level and a warrant officer.)
I allow the players a choice unlike your childhood/adolescent back ground role. You can choose to play a fresh right out of boot camp/Officers candidate school or you can start off as a veteran. Once your choice is made you must stick by it. Since not all paths are ideal.

Step 6) Choose your O.C.C. or R.C.C. and the M.O.S. skills
Each player gets to choose their characters O.C.C. and their M.O.S. packages. With
Your Character is either part of the United Earth Expeditionary Force’s Navy, Marine or part of the Army of the Southern Cross colony defense force. If you chose to play a Sentinel race, you have joined the ranks of the UEEF and get paid as an E-1 to start.
MOS packages are detailed under the O.C.C. that use them. And will have branch of service and starting rank.  Yes I have added some of my own as well as those from GM's and players who had good ideas. (I like to especially thank High Command here because he has helped me improve this game a hundred fold.)
The United Earth Expeditionary Force is divided into two categories. The Navy and the Marines. The Army of the Southern Cross are colony defenders who protect Earths colony worlds. The Sentinel worlds and their colonies have their own defenders.

Step 7) Total your experience from life and military experiences and write your characters bio and background
I like a paragraph or two of your characters background history so we can have a greater idea of your character over all motivations and trauma’s.

       Your character
Write a quick character bio so the other players can get a sense of your character and his or her disposition.
Chose your Call Signs. But be aware they can be changed in the process of the game. See house rules for this.
Give a brief description of your characters physical appearance so the other players can visualize him or her. If you like to add a picture that is optional.
Your outlook on earth, prejudices & paranoia are optional as I am into letting you role play it.

Step 8) Choose Skills and add all bonuses.
Pick your O.C.C. related and secondary skills. Post your skills separately according to the Character Sheet Template as it helps me when I am doing stuff behind the scenes. Add up their total percentages, do not forget to add bonuses from high I.Q., O.C.C. M.O.S. bonuses along with any level advancement from life experiences.
Southern Cross characters cannot forfeit their other skills for a second MOS package, these are skills meant to develop your character further.
A couple quick notes when picking skills:
 * Each mecha requires its own MECT skill to be chosen. yes they maybe close but
each model has its own quirks and differences.
* Put your W.P. in their respective slots as well as under the Weapon
   Proficiencies.
 * Remember that there are Secondary & Other Skills restrictions in place in each
   OCC & MOS description.
 * I do use the I.Q. skill boost from Rifter
 * I will not stop you from picking all the physical skills you want to help boost
your attribute. Skills are meant to round your character out. And it’s possible that you
could make your character a one use wonder by not picking a good round selection of skills.
 * You may Upgrade your characters hand to hand skills using an other related
skill. Hand to hand basic is one, hand to hand expert is two and hand to hand
martial arts or assassin is three. Commando is a OCC/MOS hand to hand specialty
   training.

Step 9) Figure out starting gear and personal Possessions.
Each player starts off with basic gear assigned to them from the military as need to fill their duties. On top of that everyone gets one full month worth of pay along with a thousand credits per year of service if a veteran to buy any personal possessions or specialty gear.

Step 10) Create your Personnel Record
This is your characters military personnel file. Commanding officers have access to these records.
