We are at the climax of that part.

The decoy group was ambushed by cultists and fought a running battle through the streets of Cairo. After being rescued by Egyptian army troops and police, Perkins is being a little cagey about divulging information.

The group with the actual Girdle was travelling by Nile and was first buffeted by a mysterious windstorm. Now Cynthia has been grabbed by a tentacle. It is wrapped around her leg, about to either rip her apart or pull her in. She may need to decide very quickly if she wants to keep holding onto the Girdle.

Bathony was rescued by another craft and is not opening fire on the tentacles. He is likely to get dog-piled by the boat crew because to them it looks like he's shooting at the other boat. (As he technically is.)
