"Blast! Keep her steady, boys!" cried Alexander as he saw his man go overboard, but continued fighting at the handle of the motor's long tiller. While he was sympathetic to the man's plight he realised the safety of everyone, his craft and his cargo was paramount. "Let's try and make it to shore! That way!"

Re: Cairo II

George cursed under his breath as he removed his own pistol from his side pocket. It was an amateur mistake on the part of the mauser and one he would chalk up to non familiarity with the weapon. Lining up the driver of the motorbike with the passenger who is reading the grenade, George fired three shots.

George Perkins rolled 76 using 1d100 with rolls of 76.  Handgun = 67%.
George Perkins rolled 52 using 1d100 with rolls of 52.  Handgun = 67%.
George Perkins rolled 74 using 1d100 with rolls of 74.  Handgun = 67%..

In reply to Cynthia Jane Holloway (msg # 619):

It was a good thing that Molly had hung on when she did because one bump (ok maybe more than one) and she found herself not in the boat but in the water.  She wanted to cream but wasn't sure if she did , she would be swallowing water.  At least she wasn't in danger yet but who knew when that would change.

"When you can, a hand up into the boat would be nice.  I wouldn't want this to be my final resting place."

Molly tried to be calm when she asked for a hand up but she knew that facade wouldn't last long.

Re: Cairo II

Seeing that the cultist had cocked back his arm to throw, Faruk swung the Lewis gun around and depressed the trigger. A stream of brass shell casings spat out of the ejection port as the machine-gun fired out a lethal stream of lead that lanced into both rider and passenger! Both men fell off, one to each side. The grenade slipped from lifeless fingers to bounce away on the cobbled streets as the still-upright bike continued to motor forward!

Aboard the felluca, Cynthia managed to hold on for dear life! Both Bathony and Molly were swept away into the cold waters of the Nile by the gusts of wind and a freak wave as the craft struggled to overcome the freak weather. For several seconds, both struggled to keep their heads above water. Then Molly felt herself being grabbed and lifted onto the deck of a larger, more stable craft. Close behind, Bathony saw her being lifted from the river onto the deck of a steam-yacht by uniformed native (Egyptian) crewmen. They were reaching down for him as well, and he could see a boathook and oars being extended as well for him to easily grab onto. With a shock he realised that a dark shape drifting several yards off was not a log or other river debris, but a crocodile, and it was coming closer!

The Count grabbed for those offering to help as the reptile began its approach. He caught an oar and moved closer to his rescuers and the safety of their boat while trying to keep an eye on the dark shape in the water.

Once on the deck he caught his breath while checking on Ms. Fuller and making sure she was no worst for wear from their little tumble.

Re: Cairo II

Molly muttered thank you but she wasn't sure her helpers could understand her or if they were even helpful.  One thing at a time Mungo muttered in her brain.  At least you aren't in the water.

Molly looked at the water and shuddered as she saw Count Bathony hadn't been pulled in yet.  It wasn't long before he took made it in and she gave him a weak smile and a nod to show that she was still there.  As usual, in moments of stress, Mungo usually appeared in her brain and asked the most stupid questions.  This time the question was ~Do you think that Count Bathony last name had anything to do with being dumped in the river.  You know, BATHony...Baths...water.~

Molly groaned and hung her head at Mungo's thought, as well as to hide her reaction to Mungo's question.

George check on the right looking for the other motorcycle, he leads with his Browning ready to fire if he has a shot at the driver or passenger. As he did he glanced at the mills bombs in the door pockets and could still feel the one in his own lapel pocket, perhaps they will be needed soon.

Re: Cairo II

The grenade exploded behind them.

Showing some expert moves, the surviving motorcyclist avoided getting blown over. He didn't seem to have been hit by shrapnel as Stielhandgrenades were assault weapons and had more of a blast than a fragmentation effect. Still, he was forced to drop back. One of the cars was catching up as well from behind!

Ahead, it looked to Perkins like another roadblock was set up. This one had men in khaki uniforms setting up barricades in front of 2 Army lorries that blocked the road. There were more spectators on the street as the mosques emptied of worshippers.

On the Nile, things were looking grim for the felluca. All the Count and Molly could do was watch in horror as the waters writhed and the wind of the freak storm howled. The boat seemed to be the possession of a nobleman of some kind, and the Egyptian crew spoke English. Mainly, they were busy with keeping afloat themselves but spared a hand to assist the castaways.

On the felluca, Cynthia held on grimly for dear life. Another crewman was thrown overboard. He struggled in the water, then a dark shape darted for him. He disappeared under the water and it frothed and turned red! A horrified Cynthia almost missed that in the water just over the gunwale much closer to her, something moved.

As they approached the road block Perkins slowed down and stopped when directed. He raised his hands, but would defend himself from the cultists should they try something.

In his best English accent Perkins spoke to the soldiers, looking for the officer in charge. "We are being accosted by ruffians Captain* and my friend has been hit by their gunfire."

OOC:* Mr. Perkins will naturally use the correct rank should it be visible.

Once he saw that Ms. Fuller had not been hurt the Count stood and found something sturdy to hold onto as he watched the felluca. If one of the crew members was close by he asked the man "Who is the owner of this craft so we may thank them for our rescue ?"

He would of course not leave his current position, but was eager to know the name of their benefactor in the situation.

In reply to Alexander Hussein Mahfouz (msg # 626):

The felluca shuddered as if were being torn apart. There were ominous sounding creaks, water leaks sprung up. Something underwater was tearing the boat apart! to make matters worse, the decoy chest hidden in the hold sprung out the hatch, flung by an unseen force! It flew through the air and then splashed into the river.

Aboard the steam yacht, an officer in a cap amd white jacket with a lot of gold braiding of some kind approached The Count and "Mungo" across the pitching deck. Sailors around them hung on for dear life. He said in English, "this vessel belongs to His Excellency, Admiral Sayid, a cousin of the King's. But for God's sake let's hurry inside, where it's safer!"

Watching the blast of wind lift Molly out of the boat, Cynthia can only shout helplessly,
 "Molly!! Molly!"

Cynthia grabs some of the lines from the mast and wraps them around her arms, giving herself a secure handhold against the waves and wind.

"Take her to land, Alexander! Beach the boat!"

In reply to Cynthia Jane Holloway (msg # 631):

Gripping the tiller, Alexander gunned the throttle of the petrol-powered motor. The rotor was at the end of a long shaft that stuck out over the rear gunwale, not unlike a bizarre outboard motor. (The outside or "outboard" drive shaft meant that while it was clumsy and heavy to operate, the keel of the boat didn't need to be drilled as it would with an inboard engine.) Waves and wind buffeted the small craft, and the propeller often as not was out of the water and ineffectual.

"Again?  Really?  Can't we get a break?  Hey Bhast!  If you can help us please do.  I really don't like the idea of me and my friends being eaten or drowning."

Molly wasn't sure why she said that.  Perhaps desperation?  She didn't know.  She didn't understand Bhast even but she thought why not?  Then perhaps the others could talk to her also and get some answers.

Re: Cairo II

Now the tentacles were reaching into the boat. Searching for Cynthia. Reaching for her! They ignored Alexander and the two remaining crewmen. They weren't any help to her anyways, as they were all trying to get the felluca to safety and taking down the sail, lest they be swamped or capsise in the wind and waves and be at the mercy of the Nile and the crocodiles.

On the yacht, the officer replied to Molly, "yes of course, we shall try and get close. Your friends seem to be in a spot of trouble! The Nile scan sometimes be a terrible and fickle mistress."

Felluca:

https://mattveryard.files.word...t-felluca-ride-5.jpg

Further to the east in the streets of Cairo, Perkins and the decoy car were waved through the barricade across the wide boulevard manned by Egyptian police and soldiers. The police opened fire on the their pursuers with revolvers while the soldiers opened fire with bolt-action rifles. One motorcycle went down, the other pulled a U-turn and roared away. The car swerved out of control into a palm tree, driver smashing through the windscreen and lying motionless on the crumpled bonnet.

An Egyptian Army Captain intercepted Perkin's car and raised his hand. "Halt in the name of the King!" Presumably King Fu'ad of Egypt, not King George V!

In reply to The Keeper (msg # 634):

"CYNTHIA!  Oh Please!  somebody save her."

There wasn't any doubt that Molly was upset.  She wanted to yell 'take off the girdle' but that might get them into more trouble.  COULD they get into more trouble?  She just didn't know what to do so she did what she was taught to do as a child.  She silent prayed as she was hanging onto the boat.  Her prayer was address to all the good Gods that Molly had ever heard of and a cross between a plead for help and a chastisement to them for looking like they were going to take one of the good ones and let the bad guys win.  What kind of example was that?!

Perhaps it wasn't the best prayer but Molly always did feel like telling it like it was...even if it took her awhile to get around to it and things were often hidden by lots of other words.  This time she didn't mince words for one could compose and chastise (and plead for help) in her head a lot faster than saying the words out loud.

The Count searched the ships wall and rail for a rope and life ring. If one is present he will unloop the rope from its hook and get ready to fling the ring towards those still on the Felluca.

Working as fast as he can he makes sure the rope can move freely as he prepares to make the throw.

Like his men, the Egyptian officer wore British-style khakis along with a red fez. He bowed and nodded.

"Yes. See Sergeant Abdullah over by that lorry! You, policemen, seal off this area! Do you know why they were pursuing you?" Police officers, a couple mounted, rushed to secure the scene.

On the motor yacht, Bathony found some rescue equipment. Sailors grabbed boat hooks and floats, ready to assist. The engine ramped up, straining to bring them closer to the sinking felluca.

"That is most unfortunate", said the officer. "Yes, the thieves must have thought you carried valuables, most likely through a spy they have working where you are staying. Please, supply your passports and other documents, plus place of lodging."

The Sergeant who was helping the wounded checked Karlheinz over. Now the shooting stopped things had calmed down. But crowds spilling out of the mosques were beginning to throng the street, curious about the recent mayhem.

Above them, storm clouds gathered in what was formerly clear evening skies.

Suddenly, Cynthia had a feeling. It was of the girdle she carried around her waist. She somehow knew the tentacles reaching from beneath the surface of the water were looking for it. They would soon break apart the felluca, and, finding her struggling in the water, would soon do the same to her to recover it. She didn't know why she had this feeling, perhaps Molly's prayer to the cat-goddess Bast had worked some kind of miracle, but who knew?

The motor-yacht with Bathony and Molly surged and the motor roared but it was very slow going. They were getting more and more wave-and-wind tossed.

With little other options until they got a lot closer the Count just watched from the guard rail and willed the ship forward.
