Re: Cairo II

When the ring went wide again the Count just left it for one of the crew who were swimming to grab. He watched the monster withdraw while asking Molly "Did you see that glint of something ?"

Count Sigismund Bathony rolled 49 using 1d100 with rolls of 49.  Throw = 37%

Molly looked where the Count had been looking.  "Oh dear.  I really can't be sure.  There is so much going on that I'm not sure at all.  You thought you saw something?  Can you be more certain at what it was?"

In reply to Count Sigismund Bathony (msg # 692):

The crew was also engaged in throwing life rings. Due to the angle they couldn't really see what Bathony had glimpsed, either in terms of tentacles or what they might have held.

The Count watched the water with his rifle at the ready should it be needed. He was this time looking for crocodiles, but should the beast return he would not hesitate to reengage it.

JM kicked at the tentacles as they withdrew.  He turned to Cynthia; "Are you alright?  I saw something glint in the tentacles as they withdrew.  Did they get the object?"

In reply to The Keeper (msg # 695):

The wind and rain continued to blow.

More tentacles came over the gunwale, snaking towards Cynthia, JM and Alexander, who were all that remained in the boat.

Over on the motor yacht the crew began pulling swimmers out of the Nile water.

Cynthia feels her waist for the girdle, "I don't think any of them managed to get so cheeky, as to remove it from under my skirts..."

Regardless, Cynthia will move towards the center of the blue column, readying her shotgun to blast any tentacles that come too close.

JM nodded and then gritted his teeth as more tentacles appeared.  He quickly fired at the nearest.  "I'm glad you are still intact ma'am," he replied to Cynthia.  "Now let's deal with these persistent beggars."

21:19, Today: John-Marc Falcon rolled 15 using 1d100 with rolls of 15.  Handgun [65].

Alexander shot as well, the bullet striking another tentacle

In reply to The Keeper (msg # 699):

The only ones aboard the swamped craft were Cynthia, JM and Alexander. Both men fired, hitting a tentacle each. But there were a half-dozen more! After Cynthia disappeared into the column of blue smoke the tentacles seemed to ignore her.

Three each went after JM and Alexander! They avoided the smoke, going around it to get at the men.

"Come on, you lot! The tentacles won't follow you into the smoke."

Cynthia checks herself again to verify the girdle is in place.

From the other ship the Count tried to guess where the creatures main body was in relation to the boat. He followed the tentacles down with his eyes looking to see if he could approximate the location of the body.

Count Sigismund Bathony rolled 33 using 1d100 with rolls of 33.  Spot Hidden = 72%.

Molly looked at the smoke and just shook her head.  "Oh dear.  I do hope that those tentacles won't follow into the smoke.  On the other hand we can't see into the smoke and what will the tentacles do then?  Perhaps this is a good time to try to get closer and see if we can rescue anybody else?'

Re: Cairo II

Those remaining on the sinking boat crowd into the blue column. Immediately, the seeking tentacles seemed to stop and writhe in confusion as if they lost "sight" of them. Which was absurd as they couldn't see having no eyes! Then the tentacles withdrew back over the side of the boat. Cynthia thought she touched the girdle under her clothing but wasn't sure as the remains of the boat gave a lurch, then another.

Immediately, Cynthia, JM and Alexander found themselves swimming as the remaining shell of the boat disintegrated and either sank or floated away. The mysterious blue column tipped over and quickly sank out of sight beneath the waves.

Cynthia will begin swimming towards the other boat. With the felucca sinking, she's been left without a leg to stand on.

Dunked unceremoniously into the water JM as well attempted to grab a life preserver or other floating piece of their former boat and throw it over to Cynthia.  He then started swimming to the other boat as well.

21:47, Today: John-Marc Falcon rolled 62 using 1d100 with rolls of 62.  Throw [31%].

Re: Cairo II

The life ring was a godsend. While the waves and wind were beginning to die down Cynthia was struggling with the weight of her shotgun, trying to keep her head above water. Alexander helped out.

With some effort, the crew of the motor yacht pulled everyone aboard. The engine roared as they swung about, heading for shore.

Molly went over to cynthia to make sure she was all right.  While she was checking with her, she also brushed down her clothes as if trying to get more water out but she was really trying to figure out if Cynthia still had the belt.

"There there Cynthia.  We'll get you out of these wet clothes as soon as possible.  What an awful thing to have happened!"

Cynthia crawls onto the deck, coughing and hacking and gasping for breath. She reaches inside a pocket and pulls out a sodden kerchief, to cover her face. At least her niqab hides most of her drowned-cat look.

As she finally catches her breath, she pulls herself to her feet, bracing herself on Molly.

"Is there perhaps a cabin I can change in? And some dry clothes?"

(Cynthia does not resist Molly being so friendly in her search--Cynthia wonders the same!)

Molly looked at the crewman who had been saddled with her.  "Please.  There is a cabin we can get her into dry clothes?  She needs to dry off."

Molly looked at him with worry in her eyes which was easy since she really was worried for Cynthia.  Being a quivering helpless female had its place at times and this was one of those times.
