Re: Out of Charcter lounge

I am already running a different game, so it seems unlikely that I would be able to run another.

There is not much reason to hit the giant reset button. We have created characters who have decent backstories and drawn up a world that is a good enough setting.

I would suggest switching to a freeform format. It is not as organized as Pathfinder, but if we need to execute several dozen rolls to get through an encounter that could translate to literally months of real-time to get through a single encounter. I would suggest keeping the character sheets, use this as a base line to know what the characters are capable of. Let the GM determine resolutions and results. If it is an absolutely pivotal moment, then maybe even roll for it.

The GMs called people to make characters and they were made (I think Sero made his but that is a guess.)

What do you want to do?

Re: Out of Charcter lounge

I'm still in it to win it. :)

I like your idea. It makes it easier for the players as well as the GM. I'm going to send private messages to everyone in the game and see if I can get a head count. If there are enough players still around, we'll get the ball rolling!

Re: Out of Charcter lounge

Still here, but interested to know how the Free Form would work. Especially since I'm playing a Vassal and not a Regent.

Re: Out of Charcter lounge

A free-form game is just like a game with a system. The difference is that whenever you need a roll resolved, the outcome is decided by a GM. You write an interesting set of actions, essentially a story where you only really control your own character.

If you want to attack someone just write something like "Luecosia opens fire on Sero with a Browning Automatic Rifle that she found while exploring a dungeon." At which point the GM will tell us exactly how long Sero has to live before he dies of blood loss.

The GMs take the place of rolls essentially, and we have good faith that they act in order to make the game fun. That means post realistically and don't expect to kill other players unless you manage to really corner them or they overstep their bounds grossly.

A Free-form game requires a great deal of trust in your fellow players, but it can be a helluva lot of fun.

Re: Out of Charcter lounge

No, I know what a free-form game is. But, in my experience, they're never quite that simple.

I was wondering how the general format would go: politics, with some adventuring? Mostly adventuring? War & Bloodshed?

Several different, err, Genre' (for a lack of a better term) wouldn't really work for Vassals.

Re: Out of Charcter lounge

I think the best choice would be something akin to Politics with some Adventuring. Something akin to Game of Thrones that strikes a pretty good balance between political backstabbery and actual backstabbing.

Re: Out of Charcter lounge

Sooo ....?

I may just bow out. I'm really not into the politics/backstabbing part right now -- which is why I chose this character and stuck to Vassal rather than playing a Regent. Point me to the Big Bad Guy(TM) and give me a few Adventuring Companions(TM) and I'll take care of the Kingdom-wide Random Event(TM). Courtly Intrigue and Backstabbing(TM)? I'll be in the back meditating.

Re: Out of Charcter lounge

I'm sure there would be enough random encounters and dungeon diving to keep your character busy and badass.

Unfortunately... This game was started nearly two years ago, it doesn't seem to have forward. Can we have a timeline when things will happen? Some indication this game is not dead?

I'm sure the GM has had some RL crap to deal with, but it might just be at a level that you can't handle a game.

Re: Out of Charcter lounge

Well, there is that.

I've tried to run games like this, but the whole "adventuring vs. politics" thing gets in the way. Even with the new Ultimate Campaign kingdom bulding rules, the medium (PbP) has a major challenge: an "adventure" can take years RT (but always at least months), leaving the "monthly kingdom building" posts as so infrequent as to be almost irrelevant. In a tabletop game, this would not be as much of an issue: you could take a bit of time at the start and then do the adventure.

Re: Out of Charcter lounge

At the moment, I do not have a timeline as to when we will be up and running. Balance has had some RL issues in the past, but judging from his recent post above he may have cleared those up.

I am unwilling to run the game without him, as he is the originator and owner of the game.

Re: Out of Charcter lounge

Hey folks!

I haven't been on rpol in a while due to IRL reasons, and I apologize for that.

Now then, the Bringer of Balance has officially cancelled this game, I believe, so I have no idea why this game suddenly reappeared on your lists.

As much as I would have liked to have gotten it up and running and actually SEEN this thing in action, it appears it was not meant to be.

My deepest apologies to everyone who put in all the time and effort it took to create your kingdoms and characters. Next time I'm in your neck of the woods we can stop at the nearest tavern and have a glass of whatever you fancy, with a toast to 'almost games'.

I hope everyone's gaming life is going well, but if not, keep hunting! Fortune favors the bold!

Sincerely,
