And I am NOT late, Grizzly, I just had to let you two test it to see if it was safe.  ;)

Isn't it nicely decorated ?

*grins*  How easy is it to impersonate something when no one can technically say you're wrong, because THEY have never seen one either?
Probably pretty easy, I think.   *chuckles*

It also depends on what current Disney Movie is currently using one.  :)

I went and saw two movies on the weekend.  Avengers for the second time (great!) and Battleship (meh)

Both times I had people talking in the row behind me.  I would have asked them to be quiet but I was too busy laughing at their comments.  Not in a good way but the fact that they seemed to hit every single ethnic stereotype that I could think of.

It's kind of hard to retell what they were saying, since I don't think that I can fully repeat the slang without getting into trouble.  There were a lot of N-words.

If it's REALLY funny, I'll share it, but usually I try to keep to myself, or whisper it to a friend.
I saw Avengers for a second time today, with two friends, one who was seeing it for the first time, and one seeing it for the second time, and the one who'd seen it before kept saying all the lines with the characters and doing other spoilers until I told her to knock it off.

Still, phones are the worst, though.  Haven't had problems in a while, though, luckily.

Psssh, I've played robotic android characters, cyborg characters, draconic characters, magical characters, undead characters, manwhores, prostitutes, attempted-but-failed rapists, murderers, cannibals, virgins, perverts, males, females, hermaphrodites, pyromaniacs, kleptomaniacs, lunatics, chaste monks, polysexual shapeshifters, werewolves, sentient plants and even a genderless sentient immortal made of solid light.

I get ADVENTUROUS. :P

But in real life I am a mere human (homo sapien) with no supernatural abilities (other than my gorgeous smile and keen wit), no grand epic adventures and no kinky activity that was not discussed and agreed upon within a committed monogamous relationship in a safe environment with the safety words "No," "Ouch" and "What the hell are you doing? Sweetie, I don't like that. Can't we just do what we normally do? You're good at that."

Other than actually being a monk, nun, or ice-cream, I can't see how it'd get more vanilla than that. :P

Standing up to bullies is great, but can make for a traumatizing school experience.
When I was in school, someone to kick the crap out of them for me would have been better, though I see your point about standing up for one's self.
Sometimes, though, it's not feasible.

Re: Nuric's Room

It's a tough choice.   The best way to stop a bully is for the victim to personally stand up for themselves, but that's not always possible.
Sadly, the best solution varies from case to case, depending on how cruel and psychotic the bully is, and how strong the victim can be.

If the bully has six of their friends to help them, then it's not as good a plan to fight back personally.   If it's just a bit of verbal harrassment, then teaching them to "give as good as they get" is the best thing.   It varies, sadly.

In Texas, the death penalty is VERY active.   They just had another one.  But they're very expensive and take a long time to get to, so there are plenty of live prisoners.

About a million of them, I think.

Ironically, I'm against the death penalty, because people like our idiot Governor Rick Perry are involved in it.

Also, it's unfortunately not a very good deterrant either.
It doesn't happen often enough to make a real impact on anyone.
Plus, let's be honest, no one who murders anyone really thinks they're get caught anyway, so no one who's a murderer really takes the death penalty into their considerations when they plan out their day.

(not to mention that most of them don't really 'play' anything)

It's amazing how often politicians are idiots.

I guess I'm for the death penalty, but barely.  It's not like I'm the sort to start frothing at the mouth about killing a criminal.  I'm with CuteSue in that I believe that people are logical.  It's just that sometimes that logic is so bent and flawed that rehabilitation is just not an option.  Sure a sentence of life imprisonment sounds bad but a career criminal is going to be a burden on the rest of society.

Then again, how many horror movies start out with the villain being executed only to come back more terrifying than before.

I think I've changed my mind.  :)

I kind of expect to be let down, and am pleasantly surprised when I'm not.

it's the smaller stuffs that is driving us insane, like the stickers on the windows to tell people what store we are (We haven't got them yet, we moved 3 weeks ago) the telling the postal house-thingy that we moved (Apparently it costs money to tell them the new address) The rentarugs, no one told them we moved... No one told the head quarters we moved, so they had to call and ask why the stuff they sent was returned (They pay the bloody rent and electricity and bills... Why the fruit do they not know that we moved?) The chains' webpage still has the old address listed and old opening hours... and we can't get them to change it

so yes.. small details driving meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the great comedian Wyatt Cenac said:

"If you have a computer. and watch tv shows on it, you're not allowed to say you don't have a tv.  A computer can do everything a tv can these days, and you can literally watch a tv show while using the bathroom and playing scrabble at the same time.
The only way to do that with a regular TV is to drag a trashcan into the living room.  And the guy I'm playing Scabble against gets REALLY mad."

By the way....

I'm leaving, probably in a week, for the Pennsic War, an SCA event in Pennsylvania.  I'm not positive when I'll be leaving, but it'll be sometime in the last week and a half of July (not very helpful, I know).
I won't be back until at least a week into August.

The Official dates of the even are from July 19th, until August 3rd.  I might not be there for the entire time, but I'm going to try to be there for most of it.

I've been threatened, on pain of random smacks about the head, not to be on my computer for that time.
I probably still will, because I'm a rpol junkie, but it will be much reduced.

I'm not leaving permanently, unless I get hit by a bus or something, so I'll be back no later than the middle of August.

Up in the northeastern United States, they add 5 cents to the price of most bottled drinks, and you get the 5 cents back when you recycle it.   Texas, famous for its "screw you" attitude to the environment, doesn't do that.

An individual 1/2 liter bottle of soda can be as much as $1.75, depending on where you get it (like convenience stores and vending machines, but a six pack can be only twice that, in grocery stores, and many 2 liter bottles can be on sale for $1.50 in places.

Still, it adds up.

Plus there's some controversy about recycling pick up services that just dump everything into the same land fills as trash pick up services.

And here in Texas they get especially whiny about having to separate bottles and such.  Many actually, I kid you not, think of it as the first step to having us all live on 'hippy communes'.

I'm hoping that it will only keep the stupid kids from having more sex until they're a bit older and have more of a clue.  :)

morals yes, but slavelike following of a book that was written by shepherds into an age of politics and computers.. is just silly

They didn't know what the future would bring, basically, they men that want to do as they see good, by hiding that it's their words behind this very well respected but abused book

I've read it, it has awesome ideas, but also so bad ideas, so no blindly following it, just use it as a pointer and good suggestions

*grins*   If you'll forgive the ironic response:
"You're preaching to the choir, sister!"

But many people, at least here in America, are very slavishly devoted to that book, and have spent generations, literally centuries, rationalizing why they should do so when it doesn't make a lick of sense.
They also claim to know the future, in the Revelations (the vague 'end of the world' stuff is all that matters to them.).

It's crazy.   Literally crazy, in fact, to follow a book about a magic man in the clouds, but it's so ingrained in the culture that even skeptics have trouble letting go.

And any magic powers would still be doubted.

I listen to a relatively local show out of Austin, Texas called "The Atheist Experience".   It's on television there, but I watch it on Youtube.  It's a lot of fun.

I read an article in my local news paper that someone in america had done a research paper on who is religious

and they came to the conclusion that intelligent people don't need religion to make them strong, they believe in themselves, they argue for themselves and they have higher paying jobs cause they believe in themselves and don't hide behind a book

I found it funny (My local paper might have made it funnier than it was)

Yes, that is pretty funny.   It's not just you and your local paper.   :)

People can vary greatly, but many religious people are very stressed out because the world isn't the way they want it to be.

But many religious people are very happy, due to their self-delusion.  it's like being in a cult (in more ways than one), where you can turn your brains off and not worry about what happens in the world, just what happens after they die.

I was at my grandmother's funeral, who was very religious.   The preacher talked about her 'unbreakable faith', and read a passage from the bible, Psalms I think, about not putting faith in materials things.
He then said that we should all do that, not putting faith in the things of this world, like our fancy computers, phones and, he added, doctors.
"Because," he said, "in the end, the doctors couldn't help her, but The Lord did."

It was all I could do not to raise my hand and say:
"Um....but he DIDN'T help her.  Because, um, you know, she DIED!!!
AND...she only lived to be 88 years old because of DOCTORS!!!"

But, the funeral was for everyone, not just me, so I was silent.
(well, I did talk to my brother about it, but that was it).

Religion and faith are always touchy subjects to discuss, at least in my experience.

I have some faith although some of the aspects of Christianity do not make sense to me.  I can't blindly accept something, it has to make sense to me.  Higher being?  Sure, why not.  Not eating meat on certain days?  That doesn't make sense to me.

Faith is just that, but it doesn't have to replace common sense.

My only problem with religion, to be honest, is the stuff that doesn't make sense.

The various philosophical things, like "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"?  Brilliant.
THAT makes sense because it makes sense, not because "God said so".

All the "God said so" crap is just annoying and sad.

""God hates gays!"
"Why?"
"Um...because he does?"

Not acceptable.

If a point of view has no other reason for being than "God said so"  or "It's in the Bible", than it's pretty much worthless.

using the word 'cause god said so' is to hide your own disgust or curiosity, cause being curious makes you into one of them, and well, disgust cause "doing something I don't like or understand" is bad...

Love is love, and homosexuality exists in all species

yes, all species, so god allowed all of creation to be homosexual as it is part of the free-choice pact he gave, that is also in the bible

I'm no bible thumper and I don't subscribe to the idea that my beliefs are more right than anyone elses.  One of my friends growing up was like that and it annoyed the hell out of me.  He'd say stuff like  "I've seen the light, but I can't tell you about it.   You wouldn't understand because you haven't seen the light.  You would know if you had."

Yeah, annoying as hell.

I resisted for a while, but then posted a response of:

I remember one gaming session where one of our players swore "Jesus" after a particularly unlucky roll.  My friends response, "Well he did die for your sins."  We weren't sure if he was kidding or being serious.  Turns out he was being serious.  It made talking to him awkward, because all of a sudden we were all inferior to him because "he had seen the light."

When people want to believe the worst about something or someone, they'll believe anything you tell them, as long as it supports their views.

If it makes you feel better about yourself to believe that people you already don't like do horrible things, you'll probably believe it without thinking about it.

I hear about all kinds of stories about how ignorant Christians feel about Atheists.  Many how are home-schooled or otherwise kept from meeting anyone who's even vaguely different than them are taught from a very early age that Atheists are hateful, angry, immoral people who secretly worship the devil and want to drag 'good' Christians down with them to Hell, or some variation of that.

I was told that one such Christian was actually uncomfortable shaking hands with someone after being told that she was an Atheist.

I got into a discussion with a woman at work who's a devout Christian.
I asked her "Why do you believe it?"

Her answer was "because that's what I was taught."

I asked "How do you know it's right?"

Her answer was "Because I know it is."

things didn't really progress farther than that, with her repeating that Christianity was right 'because it was'.

then she showed me pictures from when they went to italy to look at the shroud of turin, ergo the shroud with the image of jesus on it, supposedly

nah you see I say it like this "If you're asking if it makes your ass look big, then yes, it is, if you want it to look big, then you succeeded, if not, we can find you a better pair of pants"

I'm not cruel, just brutally honest

and also, I let everyone know it's a silly and unnecessary question

like I had this female I used to hang with, she told me about her trip to spain, In spain women wants their butts to be big, so all pants are made to make it look big...
So all I know about this trip is, she tried on many pants, and asked her boyfriend if her ass looked big in it, and well, he apparently dared to say yes

I still think she was the biggest idiot in that scenario, and don't hang with her anymore

I've been told I do that, I ask people what they think, then act like I wanted them to agree with me, but all I want is a discussion, about why they think as they do, and then why I think like I do...

but yeah, the people that do discuss with me, them I keep, the ones that don't, some has to go, some I keep, being too comfortable in my own choices, and never listening to anyone else, would be scary

sadly, I do almost attack people that differ too greatly in some matters

Like the matter of abortions, females right to decide about their bodies in general and if old people is forced to stay alive for too long or not... I have this thing about quality of life and well, if a female is treated like a container for a baby, just because they got pregnant... and such

sadly, I try to get better at it, and I feel ashamed when militant feminists ruined feminism, so I call myself and equal opportunities person

Personally I don't feel that militant feminists ruined feminism, I feel that anti-feminists shamed regular feminists by making them thing that they would be perceived as a militant feminist.

I also get into arguments all the time, especially on Facebook (though many people think that's what it's for).   I have strong opinions, though I usually don't see it until people complain about me going on for hours about something.

Re: Nuric's Room

it's true, it is a buzzword

feminism is the right for women to chose what they do

as when it started up, a woman had no rights, she was either her fathers charge or her husbands charge

many think it is about women punishing men for being looked down upon for so many years, these are the militant-feminists

then we have the women that think a woman isn't a feminist unless she has a high-earning job and single

so if a woman chooses to be a prostitute, this means no one takes a cut from their earnings for "protection", or chooses to be a housewife

they aren't real feminists, they are working for the patriarchy...

So yes, it is a word with a strong meaning, that is misunderstood daily, by both males and females alike

it's easier to say equalitarian... equal rights and consequences, no matter what

Like many words, it's used and misused by lots of people.

To me, it also means "Someone who wants men and women to be equal".   But there are lots of angry fringe people out there who take it too far.  And too many 'anti-feminists' (and downright misogynists) who try to make the crazy feminists seem like the 'normal feminists" to discourage other women from wanting to aspire to more.

It's like that with every group.  There's always a fringe element that the opposition wants to pretend is the mainstream opinion of the group so they can work against them.

we had this one presidential candidate, she was female, back in the 90s, that publicly said: I'm not a feminist

the whole country called bullshit, as well, if she wasn't, she wouldn't be able to run for presidency... she didn't win

the next president was then female, and an american comedian made fun of her a lot, Conan O'brien, because well.. she looked a little like him, red hair, hair cut like him and so on, so forth

Yes, I remember the Conan O'Brian show, where he talked about that.   He wasn't really making fun of her so much as just having some fun at his own expense.  He thought it was cool that "I was a huge hit in Finland".   I don't think he meant any real harm.  He's very funny, but very silly and doesn't try to make any scathing remarks.

Yes, there's been a huge backlash against feminists, mostly by conservatives and other men who hate change (mostly because THEY were in charge "in the old days").
So many anti-feminist groups do what they can to make fun of them, saying that all feminists are angry man-hating lesbians who have many hygiene problems, and other strange stereotypes.   Enough get through so that many younger woman feel feminism has been poisoned by it.

I read a book about the History of the United States and it really helped me understand some of the attitudes living here.  I still don't understand the whole Electoral College system.  It's funny that in a country that prides itself on democracy, the people don't actually elect the President.  They elect someone who will vote for the president for them but they don't really have to vote the way that the people want.  Weird.

From what I've read, and Nuric can probably correct me if I'm wrong, but each state came into being first, and along with that came a developed sense of individuality and identity, and then they all decided to make one over arching government to control some aspects of the country but not all.

Re: Nuric's Room

Yes, the whole issue of "State Laws" vs "Federal Laws" is a complex one.   It's one of the main reasons (and THE main reason, depending on who you talk to), that the American Civil War was fought.

The first 13 states in the USA were also the 13 colonies owned by the British Empire before American declared independence.  And American has been settled by many people who wanted freedom and individuality.
So up until the mid 1800s, the states had pretty much their own government, and the American government only had jurisdiction in emergencies, like war or disasters.
That all changed after the Civil War, when the Federal Government made it so Federal law took precedence over State Law.  This fact is still bitterly resented by many people, especially the ones from states on the losing side of the Civil war.

Most of the Western States are large and blocky because they were made during a period of very rapid expansion in the USA, and there was less precision about the borders.   The relatively low population at the time helped, too.

There's a movement to go back to the "popular vote" rather than the electoral college, but many Americans fear change, so it might be a while before it happens.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like, Sue.   I'm very ignorant about other countries as well, and love to hear about Finland.

keep in mind, there is lots of good stuff about finland, free education, breaks from classes every 45 minutes in 1-6th grade and break every 90 minutes in higher up education

and we don't slow down education if someone doesn't get stuff, we give that person special teachers to help them catch up on their own time, and well free hospital visits (or 31 euroes a year is almost free) and then child-support until 18 and education support so rent can be paid and so on and so forth

Yes, our education system has suffered in recent years.   There are many reasons, but one of the best is probably a pathological aversion to taxes in much of the country.   People here are getting very cheap, and want to pretend that there are other ways to improve things without spending money.   If you mention raising taxes, people freak out, even though our taxes are very low, compared to many countries.

The government services is one of the few things we know about Europe, though not all the details.  Whatever you want to say about Finland, please feel free.  :)

I'll say anything about America, but I have a bit of a biased, Liberal point of view on things.

Sometimes direct questions can seem insulting.   It's important to be careful about that, perhaps seeing how the other person might be offended.   I'll give any advise you want, if you'd like to hear it.

I have this opinion that all countries suck in one way or other, and then they are the best in another way or other

but I have no national pride, I just think we happen to do things in a very pro-population of the country way, socialistic if that's what it's called

Everyone pays to make sure everyone survives, and everyone complains if they can't survive on what is given, as it's not supposed to be lived on that support only, one also has to have people working to make a country run

does that make any sense?

Anyway, I've understood that schools in america don't serve food to their students, that kids have to buy it or bring their own food, is this true?

In Finland we have this small amount of about 0,83 euroes per person per lunch in school, and that makes a rather good meal really, all paid by taxes then, no school fee, then in higher education the food costs about 4 euroes, and this the student pays, and it's restaurant quality food, just as a buffet.

I feel that "welfare" should be used to get a person back on their feet, and let them live at a subsistence level, at least.   But the Welfare system is so big due to our population that it's easily abused, and then it's used as a scapegoat for politicians, even though corporations get much more in "corporate welfare" each year.

The poor are regularly demonized as "lazy", even though the welfare cheats are a tiny part of the population.

Public funded schools, at least as far as i know, still serve lunch, though they might charge students now. They didn't when I was in school, but that was a long time ago.  Sometimes they served breakfast, but that is rare.
School funding gets cut a lot, which is sad.   Another political scapegoat, I'm afraid.

breakfast was served?

we only had one meal, at 12 o'clock for the younger kids, I mean 7-12 year olds

and at 13 o'clock for 13-15 year olds

so the big kids wouldn't beat up the smaller kids and blaha, school ended at 15 o'clock

so if the bigger kids didn't get a large enough breakfast at home, a lot of kids ate like they hadn't seen food for months at 13 o'clock

12 o'clock = noon
13 o'clock = 1PM
15 o'clock = 3PM

in case you call it military time and don't understand what times I was talking about

after age 15, kids got to apply to the next level of schooling, so those schools had different meal plans for their kids

children eat enormous amounts of food, and they should do so to feed their bodies, otherwise they'll stop growing the right way, and it will cause complications

this of course means, food, not fast food hamburgers, because they aren't made right, more meant to fill stomach, than to actually give the body fuel to burn

that isn't to say the fast food can't be eaten once in a while, just more like a special treat than an every day occurrence

I mean, we used to get hamburgers and pizzas when we went to amusement parks or when we traveled, because well, home-cooked meals in restaurants cost a fortune

one of the things I envied USA for, your good restaurant meals, was cheap, I ate in a chinese restaurant for money that would have bought me a sandwich in Finland

and an olive garden for money that would have gotten me a sandwich and a coke

sadly I do not remember the rest of the restaurants names, but basically, it was tasty food, seemed the right way and it was cheap!!! (I ate no pizzas or hamburgers) Not because I don't like hamburgers or pizzas, it was just so damned hard to find anyone that made it, not bathed in grease

dieting with that problem is only one way to do really, and that is to eat smaller portions, and home-made, don't eat where someone else decides the size of the portion

eat 200 gram (a little below a cup) size meal 3 times a day, and then snacks 3 times a day, a sandwich to calm the biggest hunger feelings (feeling hunger isn't bad)

or well, that worked for me, I came up with it on my own...

and then I stopped drinking sodas, and only drank juices or water

smaller meals more times a day keeps the body burning calories as every time you give it food, the turning of food to energy starts up... Many large portions doesn't work thought

I take vitamins, including D, Niacin, and Iron.   I try to keep up with my potassium as well, so I don't get leg cramps.

There's a diner near me, that I sometimes walk to for exercise (and promptly ruin my diet by getting some diner food).  When i eat there, I try to eat veggies, but since it's a cheap diner all the cooked vegetables, like beans and carrots, are all bland and tasteless.    It's very annoying.

I had an english breakfast today

fried eggs
fried tomatoes
fried mushrooms

sausage
bacon
baked beans

I skipped the toast and black pudding as the portion got huge by just those...

black pudding is sausage made from blood, which is expensive and the toaster hasn't been used in ages, so I'm sure it's dusty...

anyway, it was the best idea I've had in a long long time

Living with ones parents as an adult is very frustrating.   I've been lucky enough not to have to do it after graduation, but my brother lived with our parents for a few years after he graduated technical college, moving out when he was 27.   Parents still treat an adult child like they were still a little kid, and it can be infuriating.

Yes, many of us men grew up with many of our dream girls being busty to the point of being top heavy.   Comic books provided more and a few bad popular examples, like Wonder Woman and Power Girl, whom I love but were obviously drawn by horny men.

I'm in a game where people write various short stories as various kinds of characters, and a few were females with an over abundance of bosoms.  One of the female players, who was also very buxom, laughed at us for having no clue what that "fantasy" was actually like.

carrying a brick is heavy yes, but carrying a brick and having a brick glued to your chest at the same time...

Yes, you're right, your father is being a doofus about your situation.
If he put on a collar that weighed over 3 Kg, and had to walk around for a day, he'd be straining and swearing like a sailor by sunset.

It's a bit like doing very simple exercises.  If you raise your arms up, then put them down, it doesn't seem like you've even accomplished anything at all.
However, if you do that 100 times, you're straining and sweating by 70 or so, as if you're trying to life another person over your head.
Your father fails to realize that there's a serious difference between lifting something once and holding it up all day.  :)

I have come to the realization that my father won't be the only one that will have a problem with this

the surgeon did not understand why my shoulder muscles locked up, and he is supposed to have done hundreds upon hundreds of these surgeries, but he has never seen anyone that close after the procedure... they weren't supposed to check on my progress until 3 months later, and I came in bleeding after 15 days, and my shoulder muscles was locked up from trying to carry weight that was no longer there

and he said "you're young, you should be able to lift hands above head"

it's hard to do normal things when ones muscles are cramping and locked up tight thought....

anyway, I can lift one arm above head now :D The healed side is perfect, the open wound side, not allowed to even try, every time I lift that arm too high, I rip things open again, so I walk around rather curiously, one arm swinging like normal, other arm, moving a little more careful, to still try to keep shoulder mobile, or it will lock up totally

I already have knots so tight I have no feeling in them, so no more of those would be nice

I remember the pain of carrying a back pack to school and in school for a few hours, and how much the muscles hurt from removing it over the weekends, and I've had the breast for over 10 years.. I think it's maybe 12 or so, this size I mean

removing them was bound to make shit hurt, and ache.

Sadly my doctor is a male, and he sees my age, and nothing else, he doesn't realize he removed 1,7kg of weight, that I had been carrying no matter what.

my dad doesn't understand, he still says: I carry that amount double every day

the thing is, he carries it yes, but he can put it down, I carried it and more, as the breast are sort of stuck to the body, and then carry more stuff to add on. I used to see I was weak, now I see I was strong, I carried this and more, not really complaining, except when back hurt

why can't a girl be just as active and like to pick things apart, figure out how they work, as boys likes to do?

I dislike tomboy, the word, it turns a woman into, not a woman, as in their gender isn't right for wanting to change a tire and figure out how to build something. This also entails dressing in a comfy way, so that if they wanna go out in the field to check something, the clothes won't get dirty

yeah, I am one of those tomboys, know a lot of practical stuff, only dress nice and feminine when I feel like it, I don't need to hide behind high heels and make-up to feel strong, to know who I am

Re: Nuric's Room

If they have a problem with you wearing clothes to get dirty in tell them you're a Shield Maiden and don't want to get blood on your good clothes. ;^)

It's surprising what you can find in a cutlery catalog.

Re: Nuric's Room

*chuckles*  You're in the right area to be a shield maiden, that's for sure, Sue. :)

Yes, there's been an undercurrent of sexism and misogyny in many cultures for as long as there's been civilization.
In American culture, we sometimes pretend that we're better than most of the world, and perhaps we are in many of the glaringly obvious ways, but women in our entertainment culture and many other venues are still viewed as trophies to be won by men, or as a goal men need to achieve, rather than a person with their own place in the world independent of men.
Things, like other forms of oppression, are getting better, but slowly.
