Re: Nuric's Room

it's next to impossible to eat food without sugar nowadays

it's in everything, to make stuff taste better

but I'm a happy camper, I have no problem with sugar, yet

and it could stay that way, I hope

I like my food tasting nicely

Re: Nuric's Room

We eat a lot of sugar substitutes, which is both good and bad.   Mostly I try, with varying success, to avoid eating more starch than I absolutely have to.   I try to avoid bread and potatoes if I can, though french fries are one of my favorite foods.

I'm allergic to sugar-substitutes

so... it's hard for me to find edible food

everyone has to have light or diet this and that, which means fake sweeteners I can't eat

Re: Nuric's Room

I have a friend who gets migraines from artificial sweeteners.   It makes it hard for her to diet.

You almost have to have the "Paleo" diet or something, probably.

Re: Nuric's Room

dieting with that problem is only one way to do really, and that is to eat smaller portions, and home-made, don't eat where someone else decides the size of the portion

eat 200 gram (a little below a cup) size meal 3 times a day, and then snacks 3 times a day, a sandwich to calm the biggest hunger feelings (feeling hunger isn't bad)

or well, that worked for me, I came up with it on my own...

and then I stopped drinking sodas, and only drank juices or water

smaller meals more times a day keeps the body burning calories as every time you give it food, the turning of food to energy starts up... Many large portions doesn't work thought

Re: Nuric's Room

I started to watch my portions when I go out to eat and found it very difficult to do.  I love food and one of my vices is always overdoing it to try some of the next item.  You pretty much have to eat from the kids menu if you want proper portions, or at least that's what I read.

I'll try to do that.   It's tough to do when we go out, though, that's true.

My portion sizes is calculated for a small female, so don't follow them too strict, think before you starve

and kids menu was the only way I could eat in restaurants in USA, you sorta have a different portion size than we do

I didn't even dare look at what a supersized hamburger meal is in amount, we don't have supersize, the biggest we have is big mac with extra fries... and the extra fries will be an extra euro to get, so people rarely get the bigger fries

Yes, one of the various "Americanisms" that's said to astound the rest of the world is America's food portions, as well as the "all you can eat buffet" industry.
I need to do that, too, probably.   I was raised to "clean my plate", meaning to eat everything that was put in front of me, and that habit is too delicious to break easily.

Re: Nuric's Room

my mom tried to make me do so

I sorta stopped eating, anything, this was wayyyy before teenage, I didn't stop eating to get thin, just hated to be told how much to eat

So I ate nothing, if anyone told me to eat, I just walked off, if they place platter with food and shut up, I'd eat

I was an odd child

so I have no problem with leaving food, or getting a doggie-bag

or just ordering child-portion, they smaller and cheaper

I was more eager to please, so I usually ate.  And sometimes had to sit at the table until I finished, if I was eating something I didn't like.   It was breakfast the next day if I didn't finish it.

Though I was an odd child too, in other ways.   :)

Re: Nuric's Room

O,o

I've never understood the force kids to eat everything notion, an adult gets to choose and not eat some shit, why do they force the child to eat stuff they themselves hate?

My mom forced broccoli in me, she hated it, which means she never tasted if it was alright, and she could not make it, she over-cooked it, it tasted like, ass

now when I older, and can make my own food, I cook my broccoli perfectly, I like my broccoli, I like my greens, because I don't over-cook it till it's mush...

she loved carrots, but she over-cooked those also, some foods can have something to bite into, doesn't have to be... nasty mush

*smiles*  Yes, I think it has more to do with being burned out with getting food for an entire family every day, day after day.
Once the menu is planned, the mother, or father, gets annoyed if the kid doesn't eat it.

I usually didn't have a problem eating everything on my plate, but there were just a few vegetables I didn't like.

vegetables taste bad if made badly

and some are even made to taste bad if they aren't needed

you know, if you crave chocolate, you're really low on magnesium... and vegetables work the same way

you'll crave the thing you need the most, ergo green vegetables means you are low on iron, and I don't remember which gave what anymore....

I just am low on iron a lot

Re: Nuric's Room

I take vitamins, including D, Niacin, and Iron.   I try to keep up with my potassium as well, so I don't get leg cramps.

There's a diner near me, that I sometimes walk to for exercise (and promptly ruin my diet by getting some diner food).  When i eat there, I try to eat veggies, but since it's a cheap diner all the cooked vegetables, like beans and carrots, are all bland and tasteless.    It's very annoying.

Re: Nuric's Room

You need magnesium for the leg cramps, or that's what we eat when cramps occur

I am constantly vitamin B deficient

I don't know why, but if I don't eat extra of those, I get weird blothces in my mouth

Veggies that way are the frozen kind, it's icky

Re: Nuric's Room

I had an english breakfast today

fried eggs
fried tomatoes
fried mushrooms

sausage
bacon
baked beans

I skipped the toast and black pudding as the portion got huge by just those...

black pudding is sausage made from blood, which is expensive and the toaster hasn't been used in ages, so I'm sure it's dusty...

anyway, it was the best idea I've had in a long long time

Re: Nuric's Room

*chuckles*   I usually just have a bagel, or I have lunch, since I sleep through breakfast since I sleep during the day.

That was very "fried", though.  I sometimes have scrambled eggs, though.   my newest thing is buttered toast with peanut butter.  Grilled toast if I can get it.
It's a delicious combonation.

throw it in a frying pan, fry it... how else do you call it?

I have been sleeping during the day, and being awake during the night, the full on english breakfast was a try for me to wake early

a carrot if you can call it so

I should stay away from fried things, but they're so delicious!

There is nothing wrong with frying things, as long as one doesn't fry them and not let the extra grease drip off that is.

Sadly it doesn't seem to work thought, it's 7AM and i haven't slept a wink, will try to nap til noon, so I won't die, but I might end up sleeping til 4PM...

I've tried and tried and tried to turn my sleeping-pattern right, I think I need a job, it is the only way to make sure I stay awake during the day, to be paid to be awake...

Re: Nuric's Room

For about a couple of weeks I was able to wake up early, have a good breakfast and leave for work wide awake.  I was watching two episodes of a hilarious anime, and the mornings were the only time that I could find to watch them.

That was my carrot.
